19.01.2022 Here we are using shockwave therapy, for a patient with a chronic calf strain. We frequently use this adjunct therapy on our active patients, to release tight bands in muscles, which may be affecting their walking or running. Shockwave therapy works by increasing blood flow to area and activating self healing processes. Other conditions we treat using this focused treatment include shin splints, heel pain and achilles tendon injuries.

16.01.2022 Contrary to popular belief, jumping in the sea water with an open wound is not always a great idea. A small cut or graze on a healthy individual or child is very different to diabetic foot wound. So before you take the plunge these holidays... consider if it could get worse.

08.01.2022 What is the proper footstrike for runners? In this slow-motion video of high-caliber runners in lap 8 of the 10,000 meter USA Olympic Trials, it can be seen th...at there is a wide variety of footstrike patterns, even in these runners who are averaging 4:30 mile pace for 6.2 miles. I count 10 rearfoot strikers, 8 midfoot strikers and 5 forefoot strikers. Is there a best footstrike pattern at a 4:30 mile pace? Not likely considering what we see in these eliter distance runners. Also please note that every one of these elite distance runners has a footstrike that is ahead of their center of mass. So much for "Chi Running".... See more

04.01.2022 PRE-SEASON TIPS with Anthony As pre-season fast approaches, we all know injuries can put quite a damper on a season. Here are some helpful tips to stay fit and healthy! Step 1- Get your footwear sorted now!... This is a good time to check if your shoes from last season are still in good condition and still fit properly. Many sports shoes have a mechanical fatigue point of about 12 months. Do you have the correct shoes to suit your foot mechanics? Poor footwear choices can be the most common cause of common overuse injuries like shin splints and Achilles tendinopathy. If you are unsure if your shoes are the right ones for you or may be causing you problems, may be time for a pre-season check-up. Step 2- Get Mobile! Mobility work is not the most glamourous of endeavours, but even the slightest reduction in tendon and fascia length can lead to compensation mechanisms which again can lead to poor running mechanics and or can be the ultimate reason behind injury. Start stretching more regularly! Even, 3x30 second efforts a day on our major muscle groups (calf complex, hamstrings, quads) can make the world of difference. Step 3- Get those early aches and pains sorted early! What can start out as an annoying niggle after training, can quickly become more sinister if not addressed. Early intervention usually requires the least amount of downtime and can quite often be a simple fix along with guidance to keep our active bodies healthy for many seasons to come. For strength and conditioning advise, leading into 2021 book an appointment/assessment with Anthony. He is available Mon- Fri, including late evenings Happy Pre-season!

03.01.2022 That extra 1% can sometimes be all the difference between a return to exercise or sport a little earlier or a pain free day once again. Whether it be strapping, mobility or soft tissue release, weve got a great range of products in the clinic to help you get better.
