23.01.2022 Talking Tip Get down on your child’s level. This helps show them that you are attentive and listening! It’s also great because they can easily see your mouth and facial expressions which helps with learning new words. We had some fun talking about the boats on the harbour this morning! What are you up to this weekend?

22.01.2022 Does anyone else have a little transport lover? Today we were playing with Monster trucks and he started role playing some little conversations hello monster truck hello. It reminded me of the power of using your child’s interests in learning. Taking time to learn about your child’s interests and follow their lead in play can help with developing play and language skills. It’s a great way to enter their world What is your little one interested in at the moment?

21.01.2022 My cheeky man enjoying the zoo!! Animals are a great thing to look at with your little one to get them talking because they do so many cool things! You can model all those lovely verbs e.g. eating, climbing, jumping There’s no need to go to the zoo, you can talk about the dogs at the park or the bush turkeys in the backyard or whatever animals you have around! ... This little guy said his first 3 word phrase at the zoo the other day Tiger jump tree (we saw the tiger jump down off the tree ) I was a proud Speechie Mumma!! Drop your favourite animal emoji here if you love the zoo too

21.01.2022 BOOK OF THE WEEK It’s been a while since our last book recommendation so I’m excited to share this one with you! This one is called BEES ... It has some beautiful engaging pictures and flaps that keep little fingers busy while you are reading. It also has some great practical tips about how we can help the environment. My 2 year old loves bugs so has been fascinated by this one!! What’s your little ones favourite book at the moment?

12.01.2022 ANIMAL CRAFT We had heaps of fun with this simple craft activity! We used some coloured paper to make the shapes of a horse Then we stuck some pom poms on to make fur! ... Craft is so great for language development. You can include lots of choice making and practice verbs and adjectives! It’s also great for developing fine motor skills!! Does your little one like craft too?

03.01.2022 2020!! What a crazy year it has been. Unexpected in so many ways. I’m taking some time to end the year with thankfulness. Despite all that has happened there are still so many things we can be thankful for. I’m thankful for each family that I am privileged to get to work with. You generously welcome me into your lives and it is the greatest joy to work with you and your little ones. ... Wishing everyone safe and happy Christmas celebrations Is there something that you are thankful for today? If you would like to share then feel free to comment here!

02.01.2022 We love the zoo!! Is anyone else with me? Animals are great for little people to talk about because they do so many different things. The zoo is a great place for language stimulation! Here are some ideas about what you could talk about: ... What the animals are doing - ‘the tiger is standing up looking at us’ Describing what the animals look like - ‘look, a big orange and black tiger’ Talking about their habitats - ‘tigers live in the jungle’ Linking the animals to other experiences - ‘it looks like the tiger in our book: The Tiger who came to tea’ Another great tip that I got from the beautiful @leash_cooke is to bring home the zoo map and use it afterwards as a visual prompt for them to share about the animals you saw!

02.01.2022 Ohhh how beautiful are newborns!! Here is my little man when he was a couple of hours old. Lots of people have asked me recently about reading books with young babies so here are a few tips: You can start reading with them as early as you want to. At this stage they will not understand the actual words, but they love to hear your voice so you can even read your own books to them and they will love that. ... Choose picture books with high contrast images e.g. black and white as they are easier for babies to see. There’s no need to feel pressured to finish the whole book, even just a couple of pages while they are calm and happy is great. As you establish routines for your little one you can include reading books as a normal part of your day. I remember coming home from the hospital and reading the book Kissed by the Moon by Alison Lester. I cried with joy as I had always dreamed of reading with my baby and the moment had finally arrived (these are the things a speech pathologist dreams about haha) What was the first book that you read with your baby?

01.01.2022 We had heaps of fun making some Christmas wrapping paper together yesterday All you need is some red and green paint and roll of paper. We talked about lots of describing words: red, green, short, long, wet, dry, beautiful, big, small, slow, fast. ... Then at night time when I was putting him to bed he asked for a long hug So fun to see little ones learning to use all the words you model! What is the latest new word that your little one is using?
