18.02.2022 Wombat and Rú This adorable pair came in to be desexed in late December, Although they no longer live together these siblings were lucky enough that their owners organised a day for them to come in together. Currently the ACT law is that all dogs and cats are required to be desexed by 6months of age unless they hold a permit to stay entire (larger dog breeds need to talk to their veterinarian about desexing at 12months, permit is still required) ... Here are some beneficial facts about desexing your dogs! Desexing your female dog will: Reduce* risks of Mammary cancer Eliminates risk of Pyometra (life threatening infection of the uterus) Eliminates reproductive Vaginal discharge cycles Desexing your male dog will: Reduce* prostate problems e.g Prostatitis (bacterial prostate infection) Eliminate risk of testicular cancer Make them less likely to roam Prevents reproductive cycle behaviours e.g Persistent attempts to get to females in heat Reduce* risk of perineal and inguinal hernias, also Perineal adenoma.

24.01.2022 Wishing you all a great holiday! Reminder that we are open to assist should your pet need care from Tuesday 29th until Thursday 31st December before we close again for the New Year public holidays. 22.01.2022 Don't be like Brutus! Brutus was treated to 5 (!) mince pies by his human brother, and has subsequently spent the last 2 days with us in hospital. He felt absolutely fine, but required treatment to ensure those raisins didn't cause kidney failure. Common Christmas foods that can cause significant illness include raisins/ sultanas/grapes (kidney failure), chocolate and coffee (blood pressure and heart problems), sausages, ham, cream and any high fat food (pancreatitis and other tummy upsets).
19.01.2022 Case study - Update! Mr Turtle has been weighing on our minds but we have great news! Dr Carla was able to successfully remove 3 fish hooks from Mr turtle. ... Recovery went well and Mr turtle received two blood transfusions! One from Dr Carlas own pet turtle and a turtle from Canberra reptile centre. Mr turtle is now seen happily swimming in Dr Carlas pond and will hopefully be released into the wild once he has had chance for recovery! Thank you everyone for following along with this case!
19.01.2022 A stray kitten has been brought into the clinic this afternoon. Kitty has no microchip so we can't let their family know! If you are missing a tiny feline friend please get in touch and describe your kitten so we can hopefully get kitty home ***RETURNED HOME***
16.01.2022 Spending some time around water this holidays? It is important to practice water safety when ever taking your pooch for some water fun. There are 5 great tips to make sure water play is fun and safe. 1. Not all water if safe for swimming. In the ACT swimming areas often experience algal blooms. This leaves the water unsafe for swimming. To make sure your favourite swimming hole is safe check the City Service ACT government web site. https://www.cityservices.act.gov.au//wate...r_quality_in_our_ 2. We recommend you always supervise your pooch around water - even if your dog is a confident, experienced swimmer. 3. Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink! - It is best to have fresh, clean water handy for drinking. 4. Invest in a swim vest. - Dog swimming jackets are a great idea for all dogs including new and strong swimmers. 5. Don't over do it - Swimming can be hard work. Remember to seek some shade to give you pooch a good rest.
