24.01.2022 Ginger is back to throwing her tantrums and we are so happy to see it! Ginger has been hospitalised at NVS for 3 days for bacterial pneumonia, diagnosed on x-rays and a CT scan. We knew Ginger was pretty sick when she arrived as she normally has quite the attitude at the vet clinic and thumps to show us her disapproval. There was no thumping on day 1 but by day 3, she was starting to show her normal personality again! Although it was her way of showing her disapproval with... us, we were happy to see it as we knew it meant she was feeling a whole lot better! #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #Pneumonia

24.01.2022 CT scans are a really important and useful diagnostic tool at NVS for investigating dogs and cats with nasal signs. The gorgeous Indi recently presented to Dr Elizabeth in the NVS medicine service having had a big nose bleed. With a CT scan, rhinoscopy, and biopsies, we found that a tumour was invading her nasal cavity, causing the bleeding. Whilst Indi sadly has cancer in her nose, other common causes of nasal issues in dogs include allergies, tooth root abscesses, infection and foreign bodies. #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #CTScans

23.01.2022 Talk about bad luck! Poppy is only 9 weeks old and had been with her forever home for 4 days when she suddenly started to gag and retch. She presented to NVS for further tests, including a CT scan, and she had a severe wound under her tongue. Her tonsils and local lymph nodes enlarged in response. At only 1.3kg, she didn’t have a lot of room for all of this swelling and it was making it difficult for her to swallow and breathe. It is likely that Poppy was chewing on something... silly (eg a stick) and it has traumatised her mouth. Luckily there is no obvious foreign material remaining in her mouth so she has a good chance of avoiding surgery. After 36 hours on antibiotics and anti-inflammatories, she is feeling so much better! #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets

23.01.2022 What does handsome Lucas have in common with members of the royal family? Lucas has been diagnosed with Haemophilia, a rare blood clotting disorder. Haemophilia is also known as a royal disease because the hemophilia gene was passed from Queen Victoria (who became Queen of England in 1837). Lucas recently presented to NVS with a sore elbow. Tests revealed he’d had a bleed into his elbow joint as his body was deficient in a blood clotting factor needed to stop bleeding.... His elbow is improving and he will need close monitoring by his family as he is at risk of further bleeds in the future. Luckily cuddles are a good way to reduce further bleeding events #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #Haemophilia

18.01.2022 Luna presented to NVS with a sore neck. She was so sore that she would shy away from cuddles and pats. She had further tests, including a CSF spinal tap, and has been diagnosed with meningitis. She is responding well to treatment and we were thrilled to see her very happy for pats and cuddles during her recheck appointment 5 days later. #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #Recovery

17.01.2022 Chica’s smile is a little wonky at the moment, but she is trying her hardest! Chica suddenly developed a head tilt, trouble walking due to trouble with her balance and one side of her face was drooping. She was assessed by the NVS internal medicine service and had a MRI scan of her brain and ears performed and it revealed a severe infection of the right inner and middle ear (green arrow). The infection was affecting the nerve that runs through the ear and to the face, causing... her clinical signs. She is now in the care of a veterinary dermatologist who is treating her severe ear infection with an ear flush and a combination of antibiotics and ear drops. #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #Recovery

12.01.2022 This is Saphira, she had a left lateral condylar fracture repair 30/10. The fracture repair went really well but unfortunately, she’s developed a rub sore over the end of the plate, which we will hopefully be able to remove next week. In the meantime, the nurses did an amazing Christmas themed bandage to cheer her up! #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #FurBabies

10.01.2022 Spike is responding to his cancer treatment like a champion! Spike is 12 years old and is currently being managed by the NVS internal medicine team for cancer that has sadly spread within his abdomen. He is receiving a combination of chemotherapy tablets at home to slow down his disease. His owner reports that Spike is feeling 100% whilst on his chemo! He had a follow-up ultrasound today and his disease is static. Nice work, Spike!!! Cancer can be a scary diagnosis for any ...pet owner. Depending on the cancer, there may be a range of chemotherapy or palliative options available. #NorthsideVetSpecialists #ReferralVets #GoSpike

08.01.2022 **Covid-19 Update** As the COVID situation in the Northern Beaches unfolds, we have had to make the difficult, but necessary decision to return to contactless consultations. When you arrive at NVS please call 9452 2933 from your car and one of our team will assist you.... When the vet is ready for your consultation one of our team will collect your pet from the car park. The vet will perform a consultation with you over the phone. If you are worried your pet is in a critical condition, please alert our team over the phone. We will come out immediately to admit your pet into the hospital. Please rest assured that through all of this, your pet’s care and comfort is of the highest priority. They will still receive the same level of professional attention and treatment they need to get them back on the road to health (with plenty of cuddles and TLC along the way!). Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in helping to keep our community safe.
