23.01.2022 Good Morning! Hope that everyone has had a beautiful NAIDOC week. Tune in to our Facebook page today at 1pm to experience a live stream of the opening of Billy Missi’n Wakain Thamai exhibition. Earlier this year, NorthSite was honoured to present a retrospective exhibition of significant artworks by the late artistic and cultural leader, Maluilgal man from Mabuiag Island, Billy Missi. This exhibition is the result of an ongoing relationship between our organisation and Billy... Missi and now, the Billy Missi Estate. We acknowledge the dedication and generosity of the project team and the friends and family of Pal’n who have worked with us to bring this important survey exhibition together. Billy was a leader, a quiet advocate who spoke up to achieve outcomes for those around him. By all accounts he was charismatic, tenacious and dedicated to his family and art; sharing and contextualising cultural stories as passed to him by his Elders, mentors and with guidance from the spirits. Billy Missi’n Wakain Thamai exhibition catalogue available through NorthSite Store & online here: https://shop.northsite.org.au/collections/billy-missi-1 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should be aware that this film contains the images / voices / names of people who have passed away.
