We remember; The not knowing what’s going to happen The devastation caused We remember; All the countless lives lost The hundreds that were injured All the land that was burnt All the homes gone We remember; The tireless efforts from all agencies to bring the fire under control The support from our loved ones The support from each other 10 years on and we still remember like it was yesterday. 08.01.2022 ***Update***: *** Car has been located by police. Currently under investigation. Further information will be available in the coming days. *** On the 19th/20th... December, thieves smashed their way into the back of Whittlesea Fire Station sometime through the night. As part of our preparation for yesterday’s Total Fire Ban forecast, members turned up to the station early to find our Field Command Vehicle (FCV) a 4WD land cruiser had been stolen. This vehicle was specially fitted out with radios and other essential items required for communication and coordination vehicle. Although for some it may only be a car, for the Whittlesea Fire Brigade it was an important member of it’s family. This vehicle has played a pivotal role within and beyond the Whittlesea community. In 2009, the FCV rescued and transported members of the public to safety during the Black Saturday bushfires. As this vehicle was fitted with a ‘tracking system’ it’s last known location was Westmeadows. Our FCV was purchased through Brigade funds which come from the generous donations of organisations, businesses and kind individuals from the Whittlesea Township. Insurance on the vehicle simply will not cover the cost of replacement and we need community support to help to so. If you would like to assist the brigade in replacing this vital equipment please consider going to our fundraising site and contributing. Any donation, not matter how big or small are greatly appreciated and will go towards our role in providing safety to the community. The timing of this for the Brigade, right before Christmas and as we head into what is forecast to be a long and difficult fire season is a further blow to our volunteers. For the Whittlesea community, rest assured we are still here to protect lives and property and we have already have a temporary replacement, kindly loaned by the Whittlesea Diamond Valley Group. If you have any information on this please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

04.01.2022 If you were out hiking, camping or bike riding over the festive season and you had to call triple zero in an emergency, would you know how to tell the operator ...exactly where you are? To help pinpoint your location in an emergency, be prepared by: - Looking out for emergency markers, which can be found across many open space locations, such as parks and trails. Each marker has a unique three-letter and three number code that pinpoints your location. - Downloading the free Emergency Plus app, which has what3words built-in so you can #HelpTripleZeroFindYou by providing the operator with just three words.

Issued at 10:40 am Monday, 21 December 2020. HEAVY RAINFALL AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY Weather Situation: A trough will deepen over western Victoria this afternoon, before moving eastward tonight and Tuesday morning. HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING may develop over parts of western Victoria from THIS AFTERNOON, extending slowly east into TUESDAY MORNING. Rain is then expected to ease from the west during Tuesday afternoon. Widespread rainfall totals from this evening through to Tuesday evening of around 20-40mm are expected. Localised falls of 50-70mm are possible, more likely about the southwest this evening, and over the ranges in central parts on Tuesday. For the Melbourne area the heaviest rainfall is expected from LATE TUESDAY MORNING until TUESDAY EVENING Isolated thunderstorms are possible overnight and on Tuesday embedded within the area of rain, further enhancing rainfall totals and rainfall rates. Locations which may be affected include Horsham, Warrnambool, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong and Melbourne. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks. * Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads. * Be aware - heat, fire or recent storms may make trees unstable and more likely to fall when it's windy or wet. * Check that loose items, such as outdoor settings, umbrellas and trampolines are safely secured. Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. * Stay indoors and away from windows. * If outdoors, move to a safe place indoors. Stay away from trees, drains, gutters, creeks and waterways. * If driving conditions are dangerous, safely pull over away from trees, drains, low-lying areas and floodwater. Avoid travel if possible. * Stay safe by avoiding dangerous hazards, such as floodwater, mud, debris, damaged roads and fallen trees. * Stay away from fallen powerlines - always assume they are live. * Stay informed: Monitor weather warnings, forecasts and river levels at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency website/app/hotline. The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEDT Monday. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
