24.01.2022 In the early hours today Crews from Burren Junction Rural Fire Brigade attend a local incident call. The North West Zone team take this opportunity to remind all to take care during this fire season while working with machinery. The local response was a great example of local communication and team work. Their quick action and response prevent a bad situation becoming a major incident with today being a Total Fire Ban. Stay safe and look after each other. Thanks to all.

22.01.2022 PERMITS NOT REQUIRED - BUT NOTIFICATION IS The Bush Fire Danger Period has come to an end. Thank you to everyone who did the right thing with their permits and notifications, and a HUGE thank you to our volunteer Permit Issuing Officers!! Providing notification to all neighbours and the Fire Control Centre remains a year-round legislated requirement, so please continue to provide notice as a priority to prevent unnecessary callouts for our members.

21.01.2022 The NSW RFS is seeking suitable vendors within each Area Command that can meet NSW RFS specifications in relation to the refurbishment of current appliances This could be a fantastic opportunity for a local business in the North West! Please consider lodging if your business has the necessary skills, resources, experience and financial capacity to fulfil the tender.

14.01.2022 Today Group Officer Barry Henry and I called into to visit the SES crews that have travel to Walgett to assist with Flood preparation work. It is great to see the connection between locals and out of area crews and many confirming they are joint members of both SES and RFS. Great to see the two services coming together again. Thank you and keep up the good work.

06.01.2022 Things are beginning to look very different around the North West

06.01.2022 It’s fantastic to see people still finding ways to show their respect to our ANZACs in these times. If you live in Coonamble, you may like to do a drive-by of Coonamble MPS and wave or toot your horn at Bill Crowe, veteran and Coonamble MPS resident, who at 98 has not missed a march for more than 70 years.

04.01.2022 It’s great to see a lot of roadside slashing beginning to occur throughout the North West Zone. Each year the NSW Rural Fire Service reimburses Councils for a lot of the cost associated with village and roadside slashing. This important hazard reduction work goes a long way to reducing roadside ignitions and also provides for widening of breaks for firefighters to work from in the event that a fire breaks out.

01.01.2022 When you need help in an emergency, there’s only one number you need to remember, 000 Please make this your FIRST call when you need help. In rural areas, people will often try to ring who they think is their local brigade captain, or the person who they think looks after the truck. Sometimes this wastes valuable time as they often find captains have changed, trucks have moved, or people are away or sick/injured. ... When you call 000, we can alert multiple Brigades at once. We also have knowledge of where our trucks are and who is in charge of them. We have knowledge of who is away and out of area. Let us do all the hard work for you so you can focus on what you have at hand and trust that we will get you the help you need. You might not think people need reminding of this, but it would surprise you, so please share and remind your loved ones. Sometimes minutes really do count.
