21.01.2022 Shirley Yoomarie paints a major masterpiece. Shirley and her daughter Anna Yoomarie have just completed this amazing painting. It was done entirely inside their house in Derby. The painting is called Gundimarla Nundalarda. It tells the story of a lady who survives a long trek into the desert south of Wolfe Creek Crater in Shirley's Grandmothers country. The story is very detailed. Come down to Norval Gallery and to the read story and view this masterpiece.

16.01.2022 Jonas and Samantha with their daughter Azalea. Baler shells and boab nuts are unique natural reminders of a visit to Derby but when they are masterfully painted by Jonas Green they become treasures. Jonas has ancestors from both saltwater and freshwater country and incorporates patterns and animals from both regions into his complex designs. His partner Samantha Wungundin Allies is one of the Kimberley's most famous young artists and together they are producing some amazing work.

16.01.2022 Tanisha Wungundin Allies has just completed this stunning and intricate Wandjina painting. It features Gyorn Gyorn figures overlaid with Galaroo snakes, Woolamarra the long necked turtles, jumbumurru the black bream, and two styles of Ngarinyin Wandjinas. Tanisha's paintings always mirror the amazing rock art from her central Kimberley homelands

13.01.2022 Here are two more pieces to be auctioned tomorrow night. See other works in the post two below this one. Also, look there to see more artworks in the comment section.

12.01.2022 CONTEMPLATION RETURNS TO THE DERBY MARSH. After 110km winds on Xmas eve put a bend into this 6 metre high sculpture it went straight into Leamy Constructions yard for strengthening and a visual revamp. This was a blessing in disguise as it spurred artist Mark Norval to get really serious about the Sculptures on the Marsh project. Over the next few months other major sculptures will be silhouetted against our brilliant Derby sunsets and moonrise. Pictured here are Craig Reynolds, Mark Norval, Kerry Leamy and John Devenny who were the major players in the reconstruction and installation of Contemplation.

08.01.2022 The tourists have not arrived yet but March is always a busy time at Norval Gallery. Artists that are cut off by flooded roads from places such as Balgo, Kalumburu, Wangkatjungka and Gibb River are happily painting at the gallery in Derby.

08.01.2022 Looking Beyond. Social distancing has meant total closure for Norval Gallery but January and February saw all of the artists in full production mode. We have some superb pieces to sell when our doors open later in the year hopefully.

07.01.2022 Petrina Bedford has produced some stunning major works of art during the month of August. She is a dedicated artist who is unafraid to take on big tasks. She has developed a unique style of Wandjina painting that is instantly recognizable. She displays great confidence as she explains the complex stories associated with her paintings to the visitors at Norval Gallery.

07.01.2022 Sculptures on the Marsh 2021 should prove to be a great year for Derby tourism. People will be reluctant to travel overseas and will be exploring the sights and attractions of our amazing continent. Next year there should be 4 major sculptures on the marsh silhouetted by our incredible Derby sunsets. The Shire of Derby West Kimberley is doing a great job helping to source outside funding for this innovative project. The 2 new sculptures planned for next year are Kimberley Moon Goddess and Kimberley Ringer (stockman). The 6 metre high Kimberley Moon Goddess is already construction at Bicko's DWA.

06.01.2022 This painting by Edna Dale is up for auction on ebay. One day to go before end of auction! See the link below or type in Wandjinas into Ebay search ....be sure to add 's' to Wandjinas. https://www.ebay.com.au//Lightning-Wandjinas/174332110220

06.01.2022 Even though the tourists have disappeared and the wet season has set in, the continual flow of art continues at Norval Gallery. Shown here are Dennis Brown being inspired by Albert Namatjira, Annin Wise with a painting which shows an aerial view of ladies digging for water in the Great Sandy Desert and Anna Yoomarie with a painting depicting 3 waterholes near Mulan community west of Balgo.

03.01.2022 Lady of the Moon will soon grace the Derby Marsh. The finishing touches have almost been completed on the third creation for Derby's Sculptures on the Marsh project. It is anticipated that the Mark Norval designed piece will be installed on the marsh in late March to join Contemplation and Outback Football. The sculpture project is community driven with great work contributed by the Shire of Derby West Kimberley and local businesses Leamy Construction and DWA Industrial Reso...urces. Local metal workers John Devenny and Craig Reynolds have both spent countless hours working on these pieces and join Midge Wilkinson and Paul Goss as co creators of these sentenials of the mudflats. Kimberley Moon Lady is the biggest of the sculptures and will stand at nearly seven metres high on the northern side of the Derby marsh just around the bend from Wharfingers House. The sculpture will be positioned to take full advantage our stunning moonrises and sunsets. In this photo Paul Bickerton uses a crane to lift the sculpture so we can see the final design silhouetted against the sky for the first time. Thanks to the Shire president Geoff Haerewa and Shire CEO Amanda O'Halloran for ensuring that this exciting project has come to fruition. See more
