25.01.2022 'Many member states are facing climate related disasters more frequent and more dangerous than ever before', Prime Minister Erna Solberg said in her statement to the #UNGA General Debate. The PM highlighted the threat to small island states as existential, acknowledging that they are among the world’s lowest emitters of CO2. She emphasized the #oceans as a vital factor if we are to reach the #SDGs. The COVID-19 crisis has underlined the importance of the ocean econ...omy. Every dollar invested in key ocean actions yields 5 dollars in return, often more. We need to build back not only better and greener, but also bluer. 2020 is the crucial year for countries to update and strengthen their national climate targets under the Paris Agreement. In February, Norway submitted an enhanced climate target for 2030. The PM encouraged other countries to enhance their ambitions too, especially the large economies. #GlobalGoals #NorwayUNSC

15.01.2022 The High Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy launches the Blue Paper ‘Organised Crime in the Fisheries Sector’ today. The paper highlights the need for a two-step plan consisting of increasing the political will to address the issue and the development of effective tools to put this will into practice. Aiming to promote a joint understanding of the issue and an effective international response, Norway initiated the Copenhagen Declaration on Transnational Organised ...Crime in the Global Fishing Industry in 2018. The declaration particularly recognizes the impact this issue has on small-island developing states. To put the declaration into practice, the Blue Justice Initiative was developed. It especially supports developing countries to implement measures to deter and counter transnational organized fisheries crime.
