24.01.2022 Lest We Forget On November 7th, 1920, in strictest secrecy, four unidentified British bodies were exhumed from temporary battlefield cemeteries at Ypres, Arras, the Asine and the Somme. None of the soldiers who did the digging were told why. ... The bodies were taken by field ambulance to GHQ at St-Pol-Sur-Ter Noise. Once there, the bodies were draped with the union flag. Sentries were posted and Brigadier-General Wyatt and a Colonel Gell selected one body at random. The other three were reburied. A French Honour Guard was selected and stood by the coffin overnight of the chosen soldier overnight. On the morning of the 8th November, a specially designed coffin made of oak from the grounds of Hampton Court arrived and the Unknown Warrior was placed inside. On top was placed a crusaders sword and a shield on which was inscribed: "A British Warrior who fell in the GREAT WAR 1914-1918 for King and Country". On the 9th of November, the Unknown Warrior was taken by horse-drawn carriage through Guards of Honour and the sound of tolling bells and bugle calls to the quayside. There, he was saluted by Marechal Foche and loaded onto HMS Vernon bound for Dover. The coffin stood on the deck covered in wreaths, surrounded by the French Honour Guard. Upon arrival at Dover, the Unknown Warrior was met with a nineteen gun salute - something that was normally only reserved for Field Marshals. A special train had been arranged and he was then conveyed to Victoria Station, London. He remained there overnight, and, on the morning of the 11th of November, he was finally taken to Westminster Abbey. The idea of the unknown warrior was thought of by a Padre called David Railton who had served on the front line during the Great War the union flag he had used as an altar cloth whilst at the front, was the one that had been draped over the coffin. It was his intention that all of the relatives of the 517,773 combatants whose bodies had not been identified could believe that the Unknown Warrior could very well be their lost husband, father, brother or son. THIS is the reason we wear poppies. We do not glorify war. We remember - with humility - the great and the ultimate sacrifices that were made, not just in this war, but in every war and conflict where our service personnel have fought - to ensure the liberty and freedoms that we now take for granted. Every year, on the 11th of November, we remember the Unknown Warrior. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

23.01.2022 CHRISTMAS LETTER TO SANTA So this is my Christmas Letter to you old Santa Claus.... Definatly no tinsel or glitter, this is because I only have one wish, for you to full fill. As Christmas is a time of rejoicing and goodwill, when your sleigh is speeding over the clouds on Christmas Eve, steer old Rudolf and the boys to Heavens gate and do not leave. Stay until our loved ones are packed into the sleigh, for you to return them on this Christmas Day. You may need a trailer or some racks up above, to fit them all in the sleigh. The ones that we love. Just a little time we ask, they need not stay all day. Hugs and kisses will abound, then You can be on your way. You are the only one Dear Santa that can make this wish come true, but I will understand if its too hard for you. Yellow Cabs,and Uber,,,Hire Cars and Limmos too... None of these can handle this so its a job for You. I know you are really busy, flat chat and under the pump, so if there are more important things, tear my letter up. It is also a good reminder to perhaps check on burial plots of family members wherever they may be. Often if a Cemetery cannot locate family members of a deceased when the plot lease expires, they will allocate the plot for re-use. Please ensure all your loved ones resting place is secure. 15.01.2022 Every monument we do has a touching story of its own for the loved one it is for & this one is no exception and the family are happy for us to share the very touching story of this one. Alberts resting place has been lost for a little while, but on a recent trip to Broome his Great Grandson & his Great Granddaughter in Law Steve & Sally were able to organise this monument for him. Albert & his Wife Annie, ran the Bidyadanga Post Office in the late 40s, early 50s and the p...hoto on the monument is of them both on the veranda of the Post Office during that time. On their latest trip to Broome Steve & Sally were able to find information & visit some of Albert & Annies history at the SSJG Heritage Centre in Broome & also were able to visit Bidyadanga and speak with some of the people down there who remembered Albert & Annie from down there all those years ago. This is a beautiful story of present generations honouring & remembering past generations & ancestors. We have been extremely honoured as we are with all the monuments we are able to do for families to be a part this one for Albert. Permission to use the badge has been given by Dept of Veterans Affairs. The new headstone for this old fella will be installed in the coming weeks. 04.01.2022 HEDLAND BURIAL FEES AFFORDABLE AFTER EXCESSIVE HIKE RISE IN JANUARY THIS YEAR Ngaarda Media reported in January this year the massive hike in burial fees at th...e Hedland cemetery and have been notified that in September this year, those fees have now decreased. The Town of Port Hedland Commissioner, Fredrick Riebeling says burial fees was still a significant problem when he was appointed in July this year. " The council before they were dismissed I suppose, made a couple of adjustments to it but it was still a significant problem when I was appointed, the final solution was in September this year when I decided that fees for burying people should be what they were before the rise occurred,"he said. "One-thousand-dollars would be the fee for a burial as distinct from three-thousand-five-hundred which it was under the proposed increase. So, fortunately, we are back to the one-thousand for a cemetery plot." "The $3,500 to dig a grave was based on actual costs I presume is a figure that council workers worked out how much it would cost for that, but the simple fact is some costs should be absorbed in relation to people paying rates and the like. I just think it was excessive and Im pretty sure the rest of the community did at the time."
