24.01.2022 The Australian Physiotherapy Association has today announced a number of private health funds will provide rebates for telehealth consultations in the wake of COVID-19. The move was initiated by Private Healthcare Australia (PHA). APA National President Phil Calvert said Physio telehealth has been used in a variety of settings for some time. It is safe, it is effective and it is the right thing to do to reduce infection rates in our communities. We thank PHA and its members... for getting on board so quickly to help us do our bit to keep Australians moving and pain free from the safety of their own homes. Health funds will be providing rebates for 1-on-1 telephysio consultations from the 14th of April to 30th of September. A full list of conditions is available at the link below. And we can direct-deliver equipment to patients isolated at home. Telehealth consults are growing increasingly popular for those in high-risk brackets, such as those aged 65 and over, pregnant women and chronic illness sufferers. Telephysio consults are now applicable for rebates from most private health funds, including Bupa Australia, Medibank and nib health insurance. ... 07.01.2022 Rebates are now available for telehealth consultations using Physitrack. Medicare, WorkCover and a number of Private Health Funds are backing telehealth, for phone and video consults. WorkCover at this stage has only made telehealth available for existing clients, with standard to long consults for patients who 'have been impacted by Covid'. Note this does not mean patients must be in isolation.... Medicare is also now covering telephysio for chronic disease management, with no restrictions for patients. Private Health rebates for telephysio are available for existing patients who have been receiving treatment for a minimum of six months. Also available for new patients who have been referred by their GP or relevant medical specialist for conditions of post-orthopaedic surgery rehab, chronic musculoskeletal condition, cardiac rehab, pulmonary rehab and pelvic floor muscle training. For anyone not in any of the above groups, or who are uninsured, Telehealth will be offered at $80 for initial and $60 for subsequent consultations.
