25.01.2022 The Palm Cockatoo is a rare bird and is only found at the northern most point of Cape York Peninsula in far north Queensland. Unfortunately their numbers are declining, which is tragic, as the male birds use "tools" to attract a mate. They use unique drumming abilities and are commonly known as the Ringo Starr cockatoo. Using sticks or whatever natural implement they can acquire they not only drum but set their own rhythm which they bob along to. https://www.abc.net.au/news/image/10879028-3x2-940x627.jpg I so love information like this about our natural world.

25.01.2022 One of the best things about going to markets as a stallholder is that you meet some incredibly interesting people. There are many stories in reflection that make me smile. The following is one I will not forget in a hurry. I was attending the QE11 cruise market at Busselton in WA’s south-west. It was a beautiful day. The sun saturated the cloudless sky as an eclectic array of people passed through the market. One lady was looking with interest at Two Shakes and began a ...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Have been really busy this past month spinning, weaving and knitting, getting ready for some 2020 markets. My list of "must do's" is very long but as usual, the faster I go the less I seem to achieve, but I can't complain. The yarn shown below is from First Edition in Euroa, Victoria. They are merino and silk tops blended for hand spinning and are just SO soft. My vegetable garden is in the throes of producing some beautiful butternut pumpkins - about 10 in all. Am really... looking forward to the ripe crop. The vegetable garden is one way of staying connected to my country life as I have a worm farm, make my own compost and plant by the moon. It is very rewarding and very grounding, albeit there are sometimes failures, but cie le vie! The best book I've read this year, so far, is "The Dutch House" by Ann Patchett and one of the best movies recently seen is "The Good Liar". I love a movie with a twist! The saddest part of the past few months has been the dreadful fires, particularly on the east coast of Australia and in Adelaide. The fires came very close to where we had our farm just out from Bairnsdale. Fortunately that area remains safe (for the time being). It brings home the message that when the world exhibits disharmony and is out of balance, nature reacts. I wonder how long it will take before our true spiritual selves can provide the balance required to reclaim Mother earth?

20.01.2022 An inspirational thought:

19.01.2022 Thank you to Duncraig Library for hosting me this morning regarding a presentation about living isolated. I was a bit hesitant to begin with as I haven't spoken to an audience for a while, but received excellent comments of appreciation. Thankyou!

17.01.2022 It’s a noisy world out there, so they say. I don’t think I’m particularly noisy but then I have a lot of friends who would disagree. My nickname is Chook. I have a loud laugh and am told I sound like a chook when I cackle! Buk-buk-buk-errk! Earlier this year I completed a Summer School with Amanda Kendle https://amandakendle.com/ which was to do with using various forms of social media - something I struggle with as I’m bit of a crash test dummy with modern technology.... It takes me ages to get IT! Anyway, I’m learning to use Face Book ads both in creating an ad and promoting my professional FB page. The promote bit I’ve got. The create bit is still giving me some grief! Maybe I need to try at midnight when there isn’t so much traffic! The end result I want to achieve is to drive more traffic to my excellent website - not just to promote Two Shakes, but also allow visitors to enjoy my travel blogs. So, this Post is me MAKING A BIG NOISE! Website: https://www.noreenreeves.com.au Go to it! Enjoy! And please let me know what you think. By the way my second book is in progress. See more

14.01.2022 Enthusiasm - I need lots of this!

12.01.2022 To all my FB friends, after completing a Web page course yesterday, I have a question & would sincerely appreciate your responses: If you were searching for my website regarding "Two Shakes of a Dead Lamb's Tail" - what words would you enter into your Google search? In appreciation - thank you.

09.01.2022 Quote from Winston Churchill: Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with it is a toy and an amusement, then it becomes a mistress, then it becomes a master, then it becomes a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him about to the public. I love this quote! If you haven't already done so, please visit my upgraded website as I now have the ability to post blogs there. https://www.noreenreeves.com.au

09.01.2022 Quote from Charles Bukowski: "The less I needed, the better I felt". I can SO relate to this. When we first moved to Bougainville Island in 1971 our cargo from Australia took 3 months to arrive, and only just arrived two weeks before Melanie was born. I was in a panic as everything I needed for a new baby was in that cargo. Excerpt from "Two Shakes" - "one of the crates was enormous. The voyage from Kieta encountered a storm and large swell and because of the size and wei...ght of the crate it almost sank the "SS Julie Ross", as the boat wasn't much bigger than the crate. The locals were fascinated with the unpacking and the house began to look like an overcrowded warehouse. There was so much "stuff"! I felt guilty because of the amount of belongings. After three months of making do with very little, it all seemed so superfluous. The bulk of it was re-packed and sent back to Australia". Living simply was uncomplicated and relaxing. See more

07.01.2022 Thought for the day:

03.01.2022 Am kicking off 2020, wishing all my family and friends a safe, healthy, prosperous and happy New Year. My thoughts are especially with all my friends in and around Bairnsdale and far eastern Victoria who are suffering the most horrendous fires ever seen. My thoughts are constantly with you and am praying you will all be safe. On a lighter note, I am so excited! I picked my first tomato yesterday, for the season. I haven't had tomatoes for the past four years thanks to the n...asty physsilid pest that invaded WA from South America. It affects tomatoes, chillis, capsicums and potatoes. The only problem is in using Trappit traps (which are brilliant for fruit fly and the physsilid), but they also trap the "good insects", which somewhat defeats the purpose. However, some good guys must have got through as although the tomato plants don't look great, I have several more green tomatoes coming. Am very grateful as I love my home growns! I plant my vegies by the moon and could pontificate on this subject for hours! See more

03.01.2022 To Facebook I can no longer access my site and I have "posted" 2 emails online to you, re help, with no response. Would appreciate some communication.

01.01.2022 I would just like to say how much I enjoyed participating at the Albany Agricultural Show last weekend. Even though the wind was somewhat challenging at times, it was great to be back in Albany, albeit for a short visit. I would like to thank all the people who generously passed on their compliments regarding my stall and my craft. It is always gratifying when people appreciate what you do. Really enjoyed the many "chats". Thank you Albany!
