25.01.2022 Today is World Autism Awareness Day. In these uncertain times, we could all benefit from some predictability, routine and structure. Be kind to yourself today and to those around you.

25.01.2022 Can attest to the creativity that comes when not provided with a toy they're looking for. My little one makes swords out of sticks or even Zooper doopers... Bombs out of bean bags or pillows and can do an army crawl that would make SAS Australia proud. This too shall pass.

25.01.2022 Speechie Chantelle is ready for a telehealth session! Let's do this!!

22.01.2022 It was only a matter of time... With the national response to Coronovirus being updated today, we urge families to exercise common sense and consideration. If your child is unwell, even if it looks 'just like a cold' or 'everyone in class has a runny nose/cough/sore throat', please do not send them to school.... If your child attends for a therapy session and is visibly unwell, we ask that you appreciate that they will not receive a session. We would never attend sessions when unwell for risk of spreading germs and illness to your child and family. We appreciate your help in keeping our families and other clients safe too. This isn't all about the Coronavirus. In actual fact, as we head into the Flu season, it's an important reminder for everyone. You may be wondering what we will do to protect your child, also. Hand sanitiser will be available for students to use before and after their sessions. Stationery items will be kept to a minimum and sanitised between sessions. Therapy rewards will continue to be wrapped. Laptops and iPads will be sterilised between sessions. We thank you for your time and continued commitment to your child's development. 21.01.2022 Interesting teaching point

21.01.2022 Isn't this amazing?! A nonconfrontational way to discuss emotions and mental health! I know a few workplaces that would benefit from having this too!

20.01.2022 ....and THIS is how you get children practising those problem solving, predicting and inferencing skills. What a wonderful way to get kids excited about imaginative writing! I can only imagine the theories these budding detectives will deduce! Well done St Christopher's Panania!

20.01.2022 Having conversations is so complex - linguistics, pragmatics, attention and more all involved at one time!

19.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." ..."That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to everyone having a Difficult Day today. I hope you have your own Piglet to sit beside you

12.01.2022 With the NSW Premier encouraging parents to keep their children at home for the rest of the term (as able), we move forward with the online learning option for Speech Pathology. Please contact us directly either through FB message, email or text to confirm your interest in continuing your child's sessions while they are at home. We will then be in touch to arrange the best plan for your family (telehealth/video conferencing, therapy packs with weekly check ins, etc) and the s...pecifics of this. All options are available from NEXT WEEK. We appreciate that learning needs to continue for our children as they've worked heard to get to where they currently are. We look forward to working with you to achieve this. Warm regards, Chantelle Not All Talk Speech Pathology

04.01.2022 What do I mean when I say all feelings are welcome, not all behaviours are welcome? One key skill for building emotional resilience is learning to get comfort...able with emotions. ALL of them. But being comfortable with negative emotions doesn’t mean foregoing emotion regulation. Not all behaviour is appropriate, and sometimes, we need to sit in an emotion without fixing or taking it away. A part of allowing a negative emotion means not needing to change a boundary in order to contain it. But we can still have behavioural expectations. On the weekend, we had a birthday party for my son (turning six). He was given a stack of coloured cups to hand out. At first, he sat and tried to work out which person would like which colour. Then he stopped, shuffled them, and walked around the table handing them out in their random order. He got to his brother and paused. He KNOWS that this brother’s favourite colour is blue. He looked at the pile of cups, and the top one was orange. He took it, passed it to his brother and said You get what you get and you don’t get upset. If you scream and you shout then you’ll just miss out. Curious, I asked where he had learned that rhyme. He told me they say it as school when handing out items, in order to stop whining over favoured colours, and prevent the chaos of haggling and swapping. That’s interesting, I said, but sometimes, if I don’t get what I want, I AM disappointed. I DO get upset. Don’t you? Yes, but you’re not MEANT to! my son replied. Hmmmm actually, I think when something is upsetting, you’re allowed to be upset. Being disappointed when you miss out on something isn’t the WRONG feeling. Is it? I had all of their attention now. The eldest chipped in, Yeah, but if you whine about it, you’ll get in trouble and just miss out. But you’re not in trouble for being disappointed you’re in trouble for the whining, aren’t you? I guess. We talked about calm down strategies we can use when we are feeling upset, like deep breaths, and reminding ourselves about small problems vs big problems. Then my three boys set about writing a better rhyme. It’s longer than the original, but I think they did a great job. (Note: they use brave as a simplification of dialectical thinking the idea they can be both upset AND okay.) You get what you get And you might get upset. If you don’t get your fave You can practice being brave. Breathe in and breathe out You don’t need to shout. If you don’t get your way You can still be okay.

03.01.2022 Resource sharing... My son was asked to complete a scavenger hunt as part of his online learning (see attached for pic) What a fabulous way to get some fresh air, a bit of mindfulness and build those literacy and language skills.... We did this in the backyard, lots of social distancing and a great way of normalising a completely novel situation from them right now. Why not get younger children to draw their favourite treasure, to write a sentence about what they have found, to dress-up that sentence with some fancy adjectives? For older children, getting them to write a description or even a story about their outdoor adventure and findings would keep sentence structures and story development front of mind! Wishing you all a safe and healthy day.

02.01.2022 URGENT SPEECH PATHOLOGY UPDATE: At this stage, our school visits will continue as usual. We are awaiting, as you are, an update from the NSW Premier outlining further precautions and potential shut downs. This is anticipated to come tomorrow morning (Monday). In the event of schools being shut down, ALL SESSIONS CAN BE MOVED ONLINE! ... For some families this may be new and you may have questions about it. We are here to help. Ask away. Rest assured that every student will be able to hear us and be able to speak with us. All activities will be visible, written work samples can easily be held up to the screen, and feedback will be provided, as usual. Reading passages can be emailed prior to sessions starting so that students have resources in front of them. It is simply a different way to work. We have conducted speech pathology sessions in this way in the past and look forward to being a constant in your children's lives during a time of change. More information will be provided when it is received. Wishing you all a safe and healthy week ahead. Chantelle Not All Talk Speech Pathology
