23.01.2022 Tips for someone going through cancer. Always be prepared with questions before seeing specialists. Write them down and ask family if they have any questions. It helps to be fully informed. Get a second opinion if you feel you need to.... Take as much help as you can from your friends and family. Take up their offer to prepare foods and drive you back and forth to appointments. Always try to look at the positives in every situation. Try and stay active by walking or even doing some yoga as it has proven to help with side effects of chemo mentally and physically. Meditation is a great way to help deal with the emotions you go through whist having cancer. Look into mindfulness meditation. There are some videos on YouTube. Look into charities, there are so many different charities than can help with some costs, free programs, counseling, wig libraries, how to still look good and feel better whilst undergoing the harsh effects of chemotherapy. if you don't feel good on the medication you are on such as the steroids or anti nausea medications It’s important to speak to your Oncologist about it. I had horrible moods due to a steroid and investigated this by seeing if anyone else in the breast cancer forums felt the same and was surprised that many had felt the same as i did. I got my dose halved and felt so much better. Ginger lollies or ginger biscuits can also help with the sickness. Whilst undergoing the treatment of chemotherapy it can give you an awful metallic taste in your mouth. Take with you some mints to help with this. Also during chemotherapy treatment your skin may become dry, I found that Moogoo natural moisturising cream helps. Take a book, Magazine or some music along with you as you can be in chemotherapy treatment for a while. Make friends with others who are going through or have been through cancer, they are the only people who truly understand what you are going through. And It's sometimes easier to speak to them about certain things you maybe don't want to speak to close friends or family about. Cancer is a horrible disease and can come with feeling sad, angry and scared. You might feel alone and that no one understands. Remember that you have support and don't be afraid to ask for it. There are a lot of great charities who help with emotional support too. Try your best to stay positive. A positive mind is a powerful thing and will help you deal with your diagnosis.
