25.01.2022 The Chimney House. Danish design & furniture firm Vipp, together with ever inspiring architect David Thulstrup, transformed this 100-year-old Copenhagen water tower into what they simply describe as a one room hotel. But a typical stay it is not. This wonderful piece of architecture and project design has a clever little twist. It’s a ‘hotel’ yes, but rather a very exclusive lodging, an art gallery and, tactfully, also a fully immersive, experiential showroom for Vipps fu...rniture line, objects and fully equipped new kitchen offering. Brilliant. We like. A lot. @vipp @studiodavidthulstrup . . . . . #hautecouture #vipp #davidthulstrup #architecturaldesign #curatedhomes #bespokeaccommodation #spacecuration #oneoffdesigns #designexperience #reposition #repurpose #reinspire #restore #creativeshowrooms #testdrive #trybeforeyoubuy #experientialstays #assetoptimisation #placeelevation #notionprojects @ Copenhagen, Denmark See more

25.01.2022 Divinely haunting heritage buildings. Willow Court is the oldest, continually run asylum located in the Island State of Tasmania, Australia and had its heritage start before 1827. This is older than the well-known and well visited Port Arthur Historic Site. Asylums like Willow Court that once segregated and housed people with disabilities and mentally ill have lain empty and often unused for the last decade. As the Social Model of care was rolled out the vacating of these ins...titutions began. Tasmania was the first state in Australia to de-institutionalise all of the people it housed and closed the doors of Willow Court/Royal Derwent Hospital in late 2000. Tassie is laden with time forgotten architectural and historical gems.... sitting quietly, gradually crumbling. What inspired new uses could be explored for richly historical places such as these? . . . #tasmanianheritage #historicbuildings #adaptivereuse #willowcourt #siteofconscience #abandonedsites #heritagerestoration #historicpreservation #placelevation #agrariankitchen #newnorfolk #tasmania

24.01.2022 What is it that makes the perfect wine bar? The perfect table, the perfect spot? Is it lovely dimly lit corner nooks? Tactile old walls and time worn timber table tops you just can’t help but run the palm of your hands over? The moody light, those sultry base heavy beats softening the sound of hard leather heels on old rickety floorboards... or that uncomplicated but beautifully considered wine list paired with oh so yummy morsels that don’t constitute ‘dinner’ but make for ...a happy tummy and a languid evening deliciously well spent. Maybe it’s the little things we don’t even notice. The little entrance bell that sits atop the old front door, the familiar welcoming glance we come to seek out as we slink in, seeking respite and shelter from the crisp night air... the tactile feel of the heavy stock paper in our hands that the printed daily seasonal menu sits upon. The wafts of freshly baked sourdough, and that ‘just attentive enough’ service that makes us feel so deliciously welcome and right at home. That perfect place is the culmination of so many things. A place that appeals to all of our senses. This is both what we instinctively seek, and what we, as notion, revel in helping deliver. Authentic, deeply experiential places and spaces that just feeeel right. Places that work, for patron and founder. Places custodians want to share for the long haul, and places we want to support and come back to, time and time again. #placeelevation #destinationretail #placeactivation #ideation #curation #place #space #brand #story #hospitality #tourism #reveredprojects #considereddevelopment #triplebottomline #creativedirection #businessstrategy #projectpartners #relaunch #reposition #reemerge #notionprojects

24.01.2022 Notion was born of a deep belief that we are capable of more: Creating more intentionally, expressing more beautifully, developing with higher integrity. That if we are truly inspired, supported and aligned, individually and collectively, we are boundless. Today is a significant day. And my belief is that we are capable of more. On this day. On every day. My hope is that we can all continue to come together. As a people, as Aussies, as united battlers, with grace + awareness.... Of all that has come before us, and the many challenges that lie ahead. We are one, but, we are many. And together we are boundless x

24.01.2022 Divine intervention. From its humble beginnings as a former cottage and milk depot, Hampden Road House been transformed in to a beautifully considered and undeniably triumphant heritage project ~ beautifully envisioned for retiring clients by architects @archier_ and captured ever perfectly here by @adam.gibson.photographer This home epitomises both style and functionality. Materiality and transition. A city fringe, Battery Point sanctuary, effortlessly fusing worlds of o...ld and new, indoors and out... a space both awe inspiringly sophisticated and beautifully liveable. 22.01.2022 All kinds of dreamy. Derelict buildings embraced.

22.01.2022 Sending buckets of love, good vibes and hope to family + friends, near and far... and also out to the many battlers and orphans, the carers and the misfits, the weary and the displaced. May you be safe and sheltered, keep cool, have enough food in your bellies and find some joy today X

21.01.2022 Falling in love with this little island state. One old bridge and opportunity laden day at a time.... Thankyou @melsavagephotography for your wonderful captures.

20.01.2022 Fiona Lynch. Trail blazer. Mum. Interior designer extraordinaire. As approachable and inspiring as the exceptional spaces she creates. Small’s bar won her Best Bar Design in 2015, and it’s easy to see why... Dan Hocking ... C/O @yellowtrace Smalls, true to it’s name, is an intimate wine bar designed by Fiona Lynch, nestled in a South Melbourne laneway (next to the famous St Ali). The client brief called for a space that was intimate and reflected on the boutique nature of the small producer wines served in the establishment. There is so much to love about this little jewel of a space. What the interior lacks in size, it more than makes up for in visual interest, tactility, warmth and supreme attention to detail. The team at Fiona Lynch collaborated with local Melbourne makers to create the bespoke ceramic bar. Local leather makers were engaged to create the leather panelling that clads the wall behind the bar a personal favourite. The steel shelving in deep burgundy (or dare I say, red wine colour) with delicious accents of two different marbles, brass and ceramic tiles is just too beautiful for words. The whole effect is nonchalant, effortless and kind of thrown together (I guess the fashion equivalent would be the just rolled out of bed look), although I have no doubt that a bucket load of thinking had gone into it. Because effortless = a lot of effort and know-how. Period. Special attention has also been paid to the lighting. The stunning linear number in black metal with glass balls hanging over the bar, the full height wall light in bent brass next to the entry, small gold wall lights dotted above the tables, and suspended ceramic and leather lights near the windows they make for an eclectic and an unlikely mix that ads to the warmth and tactility of Smalls....’ #fionalynch #interiordesign #melbournestyles #lanewaybars #hospitalitydesign #marshagolemac #localcraftsmen #materiality #tactility #enduringspaces #sustainabledesign #bespokespaces #inspiringdesigners #designaustralia @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

18.01.2022 BELIEFS WE LIVE BY... #2 An Over-Arching Approach The traditional approach to property project development sees different un-associated (and poorly invested) contributors engaged and released at varying points along the process. 16.01.2022 Saturday’s are for dozing on the couch. For Uber Eats and devouring the pages of a beautiful book. Today, that book is ‘The Touch’ - the new read from Kinfolk and Norm Architectsdesigner Vincenzo de Cotiis makes the case for not meddling with raw beauty: His 18th-century Milanese home is a homage to his fascination with ageing objects. On taking over the first floor of a once-abandoned 18th-century palazzo in the Corso Magenta district of Milan, local architect and designer ...Vincenzo de Cotiis decided to make no structural changes to the 300-square-meter space. Instead, he wiped the apartment of any decorative embellishments added by the families that had previously lived there, and stripped back the building’s layers until he was left with only its raw antiquity. We spent a lot of time carefully peeling away what had been added by previous owners: years of paint and paper, false ceilings, moquette floor coverings, says De Cotiis. What was beneathin a wonderfully imperfect, worn statewas far more incredible. De Cotiis, who had long harbored a personal passion for time-worn objects, purposely left the apartment’s crumbling walls untreated, and uncovered each room’s original color scheme; the pink frescos of the library, the embellished greys and greens of the living room ceiling, and the dark green and pink Brazilian marble fixtures in the master bathroom. To this day, the wallswhich are never of an entirely uniform tonestill dust those who brush against them with small fragments of plaster. . 13.01.2022 Divine intervention A superb example of a truly collaborative and deeply considered, triumphant Tassie heritage restoration. A vast and rambling home complete with time worn outbuildings - not a project for the faint hearted, but entirely worthy of the painstaking care and empathetic efforts afforded by such visionary owners and their committed and highly specialised team. ... This early 19th century colonial Georgian homestead encapsulates everything we love in an inspired venture. Vision, homage to past, beautifully tactile materiality, craftsmanship, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Hats off. @adam.gibson.photo A word from the architects: @Core_Collective Hollow Tree House has evidence of the ‘making do’ spirit of the early settlers in the isolation of the central highlands. 08.01.2022 Treasure hunting today in Hobart town. This second floor, time forgotten beauty rests quietly atop an inspired adaption and fit out by (and for), a progressive architectural firm. Once a fine fashion house, within these walls were produced some of the finest military uniforms and rabbit skin felted hats of the new colony. Along with her many neighbours, she has quite a story to tell. Walking around the heritage rich CBD here is mesmerising as a newby. It’s grid like streets a...re lined, mostly, by 19th century stone gems, hints to their heritage carved in to their facades... all standing proudly in rows, brushing shoulders vying for attention. Ground floor spaces house a host of tenancies ~ from bustling coffee shops to stylish boutiques, fourth generation law firms, and apothecaries to two dollar shops. But a glance up to levels 2 & 3 mostly reveals cracked window panes and moth eaten drapes. Boxes stacked to ceilings and rusted signs hanging on by a single nail rest in empty spaces where businesses once thrived. Heritage buildings provide significant challenges. Access, ventilation, structural considerations and a host of building compliance challenges to name but a few. BUT... we like a challenge. And we absolute think they’re worth it. 01.01.2022 Find myself gravitating to all things multipurpose of late. Adaptable spaces. Utalitarian furnishings. Commercial spaces that, time dependant, switch effortlessly between bustling cafe, to pop up art gallery, and later a gastronomical cooking school. And architecture like this sturdy yet gracious girl on the Banks Peninsula in NZ ~ inspiration for our latest off grid passion project in high country, NSW. We love the way the home appears so naked and exposed to the elements, but is similarly able to adapt to them, to work with them.
