24.01.2022 Took some time out to make a brooch out of Clan Stewart Tartan. Tartan wool isn't the easiest fabric to work with when it comes to small projects, but well worth the fussiness for the end result. Happy Robbie Burns Day ... #clanstewart #lovetartan #itsnotsewhardtosewtartan #notsewhard

22.01.2022 Love this story about Princess Anne! When buying or purchasing fabric to make clothes this is why style/quality is sew important to me. Investing in style and not fast five minute fashion, your purchase will not only save you money, but also save the planet. There are times when a small tweek maybe required to hide a remnant of a fashion faux pas of the time, for example Princess Anne's sleeves on her pink satin ballgown.... There is a 2 step formula I use to justify the expense of a garment, or fabric meterage. Step 1 - I ask myself is this a style/design and colour which is timeless, if sew proceed to step 2. Step 2 - Divide the garment/fabric by the number of times you think you will wear it. Example: Dress cost is $250; wear it twice and it's a $125 dress, wear it four times and it's a $62.50 dress, six times and it's $31.25 dress... I particularly love this formula when my purchase comes off the sale rack

20.01.2022 Finally I have been able to gift this quilt to its owner. It was made in April, posted in June, it lay dormant in the mail room here for 3 months before arriving at its international destination, it spent a week travelling to the west side of Australia to be quilted by my friend Fiona at Quilting By Fiona . It was back in the post in record time, to go missing in post, again. It eventually arrived back here just over two weeks ago to be bound, and now gifted. This is a well t...ravelled quilt The fabric range is called Blue Byrd by Williamsburg for Windham Fabric's. It is named after Evelyn Byrd, a young woman from a prominent 18th Century family in Virginia. The designs are inspired by classic design elements - gorgeous rambling florals, flitting birds, handsome foulards and climbing vines. #thequiltersstore #quiltingbyfiona #bluebyrd #bluebyrdbywilliamsburg #thelongwayhome #itsnotsewhardtoquilt #notsewhard

18.01.2022 Thoroughly enjoying the art of crochet! I was inspired to make this basket after seeing how great a friend's turned out. She made hers from t-shirt yarn, I made mine using 5mm macramé cord (120 meters), and a 9mm hook...my hands were exhausted by the time I completed it! 18.01.2022 Matching the print on a fabric when cutting out is not a simple process, however this tutorial explains the best way to do this. Remember to always buy more fabric than required when matching the print on a fabric, also the larger prints require much more fabric than smaller ones . Happy sewing

16.01.2022 Yesterday I had sew much fun learning about natural ways to dye fabric. The lesson was via Zoom, organised by the wonderful Michelle from Spiral Synergy in Penang, who enlisted the very passionate Masitah of SyiboriSyd in Kula Lumpa, to share her knowledge. Masitah explained and guided us through the process using onion skins, and turmeric. ... The more onion skins, and the longer the set time the richer the end colour will be. Clearly I was short on onion skins, and time was cut short. I learned sew much from this short lesson. The most interesting part was which plants have natural dyeing properties for fabric. Check out Masitah's Instagram page @syiborisyd to see the magical colours of nature on fabric #syiborisyd #itsnotsewhardtodyefabricnaturally #dyenaturally #learntsomethingnew #notsewhard

15.01.2022 I have a project in mind which involves crocheting cacti, this is my first attempt at crocheting an item with fibre fill. Not too hard, however for me it was fiddly as I do not have small nimble fingers. This project helped me learn how to crochet rows to look like ridges, how to decrease, and create a three dimensional shape. The best part is being able to hide my mistakes, and as long as I face the cactus the right way no one will see the join.... #crochetcactus #itsnotsewhardtocrochet #notsewhard

08.01.2022 A few months ago I purchased this beautiful cotton-linen fabric from @hansenprintandtex it was the perfect fabric for Simplicity's Misses' Dress Pattern 8981. It is a simple pull-on style with centre front and back seams. The pattern has a button and loop closure at the back neck which I replaced with a 20cm concealed zip. It has an easy to sew obi-style belt, and side seam pockets!!! A very simple dress to make, and also very comfortable to wear. #simplicity8981 #neridahansenfabric #cottonlinen #seweasytomake #itsnotsewhardtosewfabulous #notsewhard

03.01.2022 Yesterday a friend came over to learn the 'quilt as you go' technique. We were limited with fabric length, therefore quilt as you go is a great use for fabric scraps. My sewing friend was very excited to learn how simple this technique is. The back was completed with an envelope opening for cushion insert. I look forward to 'sewing' what she comes up with next. #socialdistancesewing #imsewfunny #quiltasyougo #quiltasyougocushioncover #fabricscraps #sewingisfun #itsnotsewhardtosewfabulous #notsewhard

02.01.2022 Overlocking the inside edge of a corner... sew easy!!

02.01.2022 It has been a while since I have sewn a dress for our daughter. She wanted something different for her 18th birthday. She chose a fabric and pattern from Gertie Hirsch's range. The fabric is Gertie Riviera Printed Cotton Sateen Fabric from Spotlight, and the pattern is Butterick B6484. A toile of the bodice was made to achieve a perfect fit; and cotton fabric was chosen for lining due to the hot climate we are currently living in. The only deviation from the pattern's inst...ructions was to gather the tulle onto the petticoat/lining before it was baste and gathered to the main fabric skirt, and attached to the bodice #alwayssewatoile #sewaprettydress #patternsbygertie #butterick6484 #B6484 #fabricsbygertie #notsewhard
