22.01.2022 GET YOUR VOICE HEARD! The Council of Australian Governments Health Council is currently developing a national strategy to address their concerns about higher bo...dy weight. HAES Australia is currently preparing an organisational response to recommend a weight-inclusive policy that: - addresses social determinants of health, including weight stigma, and - supports Australians of all shapes and sizes, ages and abilities to access enough, nourishing food and participate in activities that supports their growth and development, and benefits their physical and mental health. More information about the evidence to support this position is available on our website www.HAESAustralia.org.au. We encourage Australians to participate in the consultation by attending a community forum in your state or completing the shorter online survey. The survey includes questions on: - ‘Overweight and ob*sity’ - Responsibility for health - Barriers to engaging in healthy behaviours - Barriers to consuming healthier food and drinks - Ideas for a ‘National Ob*sity Strategy’ such as: 1. Supporting children and families 2. Mobilising people and communities 3. Enabling active living 4. Building a healthier and more resilient food system 5. Enablers for a national ob*sity strategy - About you (including one optional question about weight) Content warning: The consultation frames higher weight as a problem and assumes that there is a ‘healthy weight’.

15.01.2022 TOP POSTS OF 2019.....and the winner is this one! . . The job of a Dietitian, & many other health professionals, is to support you to become more familiar with ...yourself and your experiences with food, eating and your body, to prioritise and elevate these experiences as valuable and wise, and to equip you with the foundational skills to integrate this wisdom, knowledge and insight into your life beyond the time we spend together. We (health professionals) are not the holders of all the knowledge & wisdom- sure we know a few things which might be helpful & we're happy to share them with you - with permission & after hearing from you first - but never under estimate the importance of your own experiences in guiding the process of becoming more familiar with yourself & the path of healing. We value you - every part of you, not just some parts of you. #HAES #mindfuldietitian #NonDietApproach #wisdom #mindfulness #openhearted #trust

14.01.2022 #Repost @vinccird with @get_repost One of the most common misconceptions of #HealthAtEverySize is that it's not backed by science, or worse, "anti-science".... Aside from the small but growing body of research looking specifically at #HAES-oriented approaches to care, existing research on weight and health backs a #weightinclusive approachwe know that not only do diets not work and do the opposite of what they promise, and that it is possible to improve health outcomes *without* weight loss. Want to learn more? There's just a few days left to catch my webinar, Evidence-based Practice in HAES: How to Critically Evaluate, Communicate and Integrate Available Science, with #INSPIRDtoSEEK. Sign up before next Monday, Sept 30, to get access to the webinar, printable resources and 1 CEU (for US RDs) PLUS full access to online modules and past webinar video replays sharing how to build a private practice with a #nondiet, weight-inclusive philosophy. 08.01.2022 "A new study from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), finds adolescents and young adults whose weight is in the healthy, overweight or obese ranges face similar cardiovascular and other health complications as their counterparts with low body mass index (BMI)."
