07.01.2022 There is no manual for being a parent - so many people told me this when I was pregnant. You will just learn on the job. I was floored - Why wasn’t there?! How has this oversight occurred! Who do I write to to inform them of this? I went to university...twice... I have studied for every job I have ever had an yet I was about to embark on the biggest and most important job I would ever had and there was nowhere to enrol.... And then my daughter arrived and I learnt the biggest lesson any parent will learn. And I’ll let you in on that secret: There is no right way to be a parent, except YOUR way. So mumma, put down all the books that detail what should and shouldn’t be happening, stop comparing to other parents, stop pressuring yourself and stick to the universal basics: 1. There is never too many cuddles and kisses....ever. Period. 2. Fed is best. Doesn’t matter if it’s solid, breastmilk, formula or a mixture of the above. 3. No toy will ever be as loved or as important as you and your time. 4. What worked today may not work tomorrow and that’s ok. You are still doing a great job. 5. Treasure the time they want to be held because it will disappear way too fast.
