25.01.2022 You are Just What the World Needs - https://mailchi.mp/72e88c/you-are-just-what-the-world-needs In order to know we are okay and to heal the places within us that still don't believe it, we have to find a sense of safety in our body so healing can take place. In my upcoming online Yoga for Resilience, creating a felt sense of safety is one of the many themes we will work with. Starting 11 August, 10:00am (Sydney time) this online class can be attended live or via the recordi...ng afterwards. Contact me with any questions and take care.

20.01.2022 What if you could lovingly receive all of yourself? Your beautiful, awesome and stunning parts? Your wounded, shameful and aching parts? What if you stopped hiding, denying and belittling the parts of you begging for your attention? What if flushing your being with tender attention and sweet curiosity delivered that which you seek? What if what you seek is already there? What if? Thank you to @ktmdphotohraphy on Unsplash.com for the beautiful image.... #whatif #traumasensitiveyoga #traumainformed #traumasensitivemeditation #traumasensitivemindfulness #onlineyogaclasses #onlinetraumasensitiveyoga #nourishyoursoul #mullumyoga #mullumbimbyyoga #byronyoga #lookafteryourself

17.01.2022 Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause.... "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right.

15.01.2022 Reading the news from around the world and locally is disconcerting. It fills me with worry and fear. In moments of overwhelm I find it helpful to feel my connection to the Earth, my breath moving within and to gently remind and reassure myself that in this moment, I am safe. The best way I can be of service in these strange days is by keeping my mind-body system well-regulated, to move through the world with kindness and care. To do this, I can’t be living in fear. When I f...eel fear welling up, I tend to my nervous system because the threat I sense isn’t imminent to me and it’s no use for me to be consumed by fear. Starting 10 February I have two yoga and meditation courses starting, one online and one in Mullumbimby, that will offer skills for self-regulation and time to practice them. Click the link in my bio for more information. 10.01.2022 This time of year can feel overwhelming and frantic. Even if you personally don’t feel it, it’s in the air! Can you find some time to rest and look after yourself so that you can meet the manic energy and not lose your centre? It’s a radical act to rest, to look after yourself. Be radical! 09.01.2022 I love this question from Rachel Naomi Remen’s interview with Krista Tippett @onbeing John O’Donohue said that the key to living a beautiful life is asking beautiful questions. For me, this officially qualifies as a beautiful question. It feels so very relevant to the world we live in today. So many of us feel overwhelmed by all that is happening. And we can feel so not-enough and too wounded to effect any real change. But, as Dr Remen points out, it’s our very wounds that a...llow us to develop the compassion with which to heal the world, one heart at a time. #traumasensitive #traumasensitiveyoga #yogaforresilience #yogaformentalhealth #yogaforstressrelief #onlineyoga #traumainformed #traumasensitivemeditation #traumasensitivemindfulness #instinctivemeditation #selfcare #meditationmadeeasy #mullumyoga #mullumbimbyyoga #byronbayyoga #lookafteryourself #practicenotperfection #nourishedsoul #nourishyoursoul

09.01.2022 In-person Classes Returning! - https://mailchi.mp/d39841d23343/in-person-classes-returning Our nervous systems cannot tell the difference between fact and fiction, imminent threat or that which is far away. I am careful in consumption of media in all its forms. In addition to avoiding over-consumption of media, I consciously feed goodness into my system, with yoga, meditation, funny movies, reading, nature time, and family time.... My next in-person classes will bring together gentle yoga and meditation and start Wed., 5 August, 9:30am - 11:00am.

06.01.2022 There has never been a better time to invest in yourself and your self care. Climate change, political elections, systemic oppression and a pandemic, world hunger, war, and poverty - we are facing a lot as a world. And it can all feel so damn overwhelming. To effect change in the world, we need to start close in, changing the world one heart at a time, starting by healing our own. If we are to find our way through this and survive (and thrive!), we need to radically develop o...ur resilience. In my one-to-one work with people, I watch how transformative it can be to have someone on your side, an ally to mentor your inner-ally so you always have that support with you. For the month of October when you pay for three one-to-one sessions, you’ll get a fourth free. In these sessions we can work on what you need, what barriers you face, and how you can nourish and look after yourself. Contact me via Insta or Facebook or email [email protected] to take advantage of this special offer. Sessions can be online, via the telephone or in-person in Byron Shire. #lookafteryourself #nourishyoursoul #traumasensitiveyoga #traumainformed #traumasensitivemeditation #traumasensitivemindfulness #springspecial #buildingresilience #yogaforstressrelief #yogaformentalhealth #yogaforresilience

05.01.2022 Highly Attuned Childhood relational trauma can cause one to be an expert at reading even the most subtle of facial expressions. Whether the trauma was enacted on us from siblings, parents or children at school, we become experts at reading the facial expressions of others, assessing whether we are safe. Depending on what we saw on the faces around us would decide our behaviours and reactions - to hide, to seek connection, to people-please (also known as the fawn response) or ...to run away - all adaptive survival responses that allowed us to get through childhood. It took me years to realise what I was doing and why I was always trying to read my husband. He would walk in the door from work and I’d be assessing him (which he HATED). I was assessing his mood and whether or not I was safe (I was and am, he’s not an abusive man). When I discovered for myself and explained to him what I was doing, it was an opportunity for me to tune into my own nervous system and asses my true needs. Instead of looking to him for safety, I started feeling my own discomfort and settling myself. I started learning to respond to the person in front of me, the current day situation, instead of the past. In adulthood, this ability to read the emotions of others can be a super power. It can lead us to being very tuned into the emotions of others, allowing us to be deeply connected to our loved ones. Unrecognised and unhealed, it can lead to hyper-vigilance and disconnection. Tell me, are you very alert to the facial expressions of others? Do you find it a super power or hindrance? Thank you to @cptsd_life for the image and for prompting me to think about this topic. #traumasensitive #hypervigilance #empathic #hsp #traumasensitiveyoga #yogaforresilience #yogaformentalhealth #yogaforstressrelief #onlineyoga #traumainformed #traumasensitivemeditation #traumasensitivemindfulness #instinctivemeditation #selfcare #meditationmadeeasy #mullumyoga #mullumbimbyyoga #byronbayyoga #lookafteryourself #practicenotperfection #nourishedsoul #nourishyoursoul

04.01.2022 Let’s Remake the World with Words by Gregory Orr Let’s remake the world with words. Not frivolously, nor... To hide from what we fear, But with a purpose. Let’s, As Wordsworth said, remove The dust of custom so things Shine again, each object arrayed In its robe of original light. And then we’ll see the world As if for the first time, As once we gazed at the beloved Who was gazing at us. What do you say? Let’s remake this world beautifully, intentionally and with our gentlest attention paid to all we come into contact with? 01.01.2022 You know, this can be so much harder than we know. When someone is hurting we can rush in to try and fix it, offering unwanted advice or empty platitudes. Instead of comforting our struggling loved ones, they might end up feeling unheard and alone. Instead, find the discomfort in your own body. Attend to that. Then listen attentively, with no intention to fix. Sometimes the struggle in us just needs to heard and seen. #traumasensitive ... #traumasensitiveyoga #yogaforresilience #yogaformentalhealth #yogaforstressrelief #onlineyoga #traumainformed #traumasensitivemeditation #traumasensitivemindfulness #instinctivemeditation #selfcare #meditationmadeeasy #mullumyoga #mullumbimbyyoga #byronbayyoga #lookafteryourself #practicenotperfection #nourishedsoul #nourishyoursoul See more

01.01.2022 Don't Abandon Any of You - https://mailchi.mp/92e0bc252e3c/dont-abandon-any-of-you I recently heard from a prominent psychologist and meditation teacher the advice to tell yourself not to believe your thoughts. This felt self-divisive. What if, instead, we dug deeper into our thoughts and what they were pointing us towards - unmet needs, untended or abandoned parts of ourselves? Take some time to tend to yourself with my upcoming online Yoga for Resilience, starting 25 August at 10:00am (Sydney time).

01.01.2022 Poetry is language against which we have no defences. David Whyte May I suggest you read this poem out loud and slowly. Let the words, the meaning, wash over you in waves. Kindness ... by Naomi Shihab Nye Before you know what kindness really is you must lose things, feel the future dissolve in a moment like salt in a weakened broth. What you held in your hand, what you counted and carefully saved, all this must go so you know how desolate the landscape can be between the regions of kindness. How you ride and ride thinking the bus will never stop, the passengers eating maize and chicken will stare out the window forever. Before you learn the tender gravity of kindness you must travel where the Indian in a white poncho lies dead by the side of the road. You must see how this could be you, how he too was someone who journeyed through the night with plans and the simple breath that kept him alive. Before you know kindness as the deepest thing inside, you must know sorrow as the other deepest thing. You must wake up with sorrow. You must speak to it till your voice catches the thread of all sorrows and you see the size of the cloth. Then it is only kindness that makes sense anymore, only kindness that ties your shoes and sends you out into the day to gaze at bread, only kindness that raises its head from the crowd of the world to say It is I you have been looking for, and then goes with you everywhere like a shadow or a friend.
