23.01.2022 A note from Claire : "For your Yin practice tonight, we will be giving some extra nourishment to your throat chakra. Based on its position it is quite logically about speaking and expression. However that is only half the story as it is very much about being an effective communicator, so we need to add listening in to the mix as well. This idea of Respectful Communication is very much part of this chakra. Energetically it is common chakra to be blocked as many people repress ...what they need to say, whether through societal or family conditioning. It is indelibly linked to the chakras we've worked on previously, for example... Heart chakra - feeling worthy enough to have that opinion and express it and the Solar Plexus chakra - feeling confident enough to voice that opinion. As always I will add in some affirmations specific to the throat chakra as the feedback I have had is that it helps provide a point of focus whilst you relax into your poses. 21.01.2022 ** MINDFUL MONDAY ** Clench your fists and breathe into your fingers (This one is great for a quick fix to release anger and/or tension.) 1. Wrap your thumbs into your palms, then wrap your fingers over the top of your thumbs. Clench your fists tightly.... 2. Turn your hand over so your fingers and thumbs are facing up. 3. Breathe into your fist. 4. Notice what happens. TIP: Try this when children have overwhelming emotions. It's a great distraction and gives them an outlet to calm down, a long exhale to soothe the nervous system and at the same time feels empowering. #mindfulliving #mindfulness #mindfulnesspractice #offthemat

19.01.2022 *** MINDFUL MONDAY *** ROCKING YOUR WEIGHT INTO YOUR HEELS This is a fun, simple mindfulness exercise that encourages observation and curiosity. It also deactivates the 'flight and flight' response or sympathetic nervous system which may invite in a sense of being back in control of our lives with calmness and ease. 1. Stand up straight with a tall spine and slowly transfer your weight to the balls of your feet. ... 2. Notice how this feels. 3. Now gently rock your weight to your heels. 4. Notice how this may feel different. In what way does it feel different? Super simple. Super effective. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself and see how it feels in your body. I like to try this when engaged in a difficult conversation. It really makes me feel a lot more laid back! #mindfulness #slowmindfulyoga #offyourmat

The name itself is a little hint to what this chakra is about; imagine having an additional eye - we would be able to see more. And that is what an unblocked third eye chakra looks like - clarity, connection to wisdom, foresight and intuition. When we work consistently with this chakra we are able to move into a space of real trusting of what we feel and intuit. 16.01.2022 Despite what it sounds like, a 3 day cattle muster is more about slowing down than charging around like a cow girl! I spent my days on horseback walking this breathtaking 8000 acre property with a group of 5 other riders. We chatted and connected, but were mostly silent. ... We worked as a team to round up the mob of cows - plus a couple of unwilling bulls! We spent our evenings by campfire and under starlight. For want of better words, it was the experience of a lifetime and one I plan to do on a regular basis. I actually thought it would be a break from yoga yet I realise that yoga is so much a part of me it goes wherever I do. The long hours in the saddle meant I dived deep into my mindfulness practice. My breath work helped me through some exhilarating (and rather confrontational) experiences with the cattle. And I have never connected more with my sit bones! Yikes, they're definitely 'present' but thanks to returning to the mat and finding ease of movement again I am walking less like a cow girl. Happy, tired, contented and home. 14.01.2022 It’s week 5 of our 7 week chakra series: THE THROAT CHAKRA. And it’s been a really fun month together as we explore the energy centres and what meaning they have to us individually. Whether that be their physical location in the body, a mantra or sound that resonates with us or something stimulated in the emotional body. I have learnt so much from you in class and your feedback, so please keep communicating.... Speaking of which. Whilst the throat chakra is associated with communicating freely and authentically, for me I have learnt the most about this chakra in relation to listening. Listening to my internal chatter, and responding kindly and compassionately. But also listening to others. Really hearing them, giving them time and space to talk and observing their non-verbal communication and whether it is aligned with their verbal communication. Food for thought perhaps? I really look forward to practicing with you.

12.01.2022 I’m drawn to shadows. Not scared of the dark. In fact some of my darkest times in life have taught me so much more about myself than the lighter moments. Our morning classes had such a radiant light filtering through the doors and onto the new elephant ear plants, I couldn’t help but try and capture the light and shadow. 08.01.2022 The nourished yoga teachers are a special breed. I get the pure honour (this word is a little overused I feel but in this case I mean it from my core) of being approached by very talented, more experienced than me yoga teachers to teach in our community. But every so often something sparks pure joy and an effortless turn of events evolves which eventuates in people like Claire Tait and Giselle Perry-de Vries guiding, sharing and making others laugh and move and breathe and connect in a way no others do. Today we celebrated the year, and togetherness and fun. Thanks for being you and for heading up the Nourished Yoga tribe.

08.01.2022 Another Yin Yoga book arrived in the post today... I have fallen in love with this deeply nourishing practice. It is the perfect partner to my own stronger vin...yasa practice and this balance is something we should endeavor to seek across all areas of our lives. 07.01.2022 As we come to the final week of our Chakra series, I find myself seeking a quiet practice. Instead of chanting a sound for the CROWN CHAKRA we sit in silence. Mmmm I love that, but don't worry if that seems a little overwhelming. There is plenty of guidance and breath and movement to ease us in. As we seek to connect with this energy centre located on the top of the head, we must also remember to root down through our lower chakras. This way we may get a glimmer of connectio...n and unity, oneness to everyone and everything in a grounded way. There is no intellectual knowing at the level of the 7th chakra, but potentially a sense of serenity, joy and deep inner peace. There is so much more to say about the crown chakra, but instead I'll invite you to experience a practice around awakening the physical, emotional and spiritual qualities on, or even hovering just above, the crown of the head. The challenge is to feel a sense of liberation, whilst at the same time remain firmly rooted deep in the ground! And a deep heart-felt thank you for joining our community on this journey, either online or in class, with an open heart and mind to explore some of the deeper aspects of yoga. I personally have learnt and grown so much from being a part of it. Namaste.

06.01.2022 In class recently we've been exploring the power of our INTERNAL and EXTERNAL speech - the throat chakra. Today my eldest daughter, Lily, and I stood discussing the words to a speech she is giving at school today as Vice Captain for Remembrance Day. What came through strongly is that as leader, it is her role to communicate honestly about the sadness she felt for those who have sacrificed their lives for ours. And the happiness she feels as she gets to witness the sun rising and setting every day. Let's continue these conversations with the young and old in whatever shape and form they arise.

05.01.2022 I did a post about what I call the 5-4-3-2-1 method a short while ago and subsequently found this graphic. This method is really helpful for those with anxiety.... A couple of my clients who suffer panic attacks find it good to do when they feel an attack coming on. It's also a beautiful grounding exercise to do, or something to do whilst waiting for the bus/an appointment etc instead of scrolling on your phone.
