18.01.2022 COVID-19 CASE IN LOCAL SCHOOL St Pius X High School at Adamstown will be closed for deep cleaning tomorrow as a student has tested positive for COVID-19. All... students and staff are required by NSW Health to self-isolate until you’re are notified that you are not a close contact. This notification will come from the school as soon as possible. The new case is a male teenager, and health are continuing to investigate the source of his infection. Hunter New England Local Health District is urging anyone who attended St Pius X High School (Adamstown) on Monday 3 August to be on the lookout for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested immediately should any respiratory symptoms or fever occur. The teenager caught the Number 26 school bus (Hamilton to Adamstown) to school on Monday 3 August, at 8.20am. All people on the bus at this time will be required to isolate for 14 days and seek testing. He is also a team member of the Newcastle Jets under 15’s representative squad who played a soccer match against the Stanmore Hawks at Arlington Oval in Dulwich Hill on 1 August. The teenager’s team mates and the members of the opposing team are considered close contacts and will be required to isolate for 14 days. All close contacts of the teenager will be notified and required to isolate for 14 days. Hunter New England Health is still working to identify any further contacts or venues visited by the teenager, and additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available. It is vital people in the community continue to present for testing if experiencing symptoms to limit the spread of the virus. I urge everyone to please follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine, and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow, and regularly washing their hands.

Get tested regardless of symptoms, but you must remain in isolation for the full 14 days even if your initial test is negative. If you do develop COVID-19 symptoms, you should be retested. Hotel Jesmond on 29 July between 7.30pm and 9.30pm Wallsend Diggers & Mezz Bar on 30 July between 7.30pm and 9.30pm This follows confirmation of a confirmed Sydney case who visited Newcastle on 29 and 30 July while infectious. NSW Health is in contact with the management of the two venues to identify patrons who attended at these times. The venues have been deep cleaned overnight with extra attention to touch points. Hunter New England Health is still working to contact those who attended the venues at these times and they should be on the lookout for symptoms. If you were at Hotel Jesmond on 29 July, or Wallsend Diggers on 30 July between the hours of 7.30pm and 9.30pm, you may be at risk of infection and you must strictly isolate at home for 14 days from those dates and be tested for COVID-19. I urge everyone to follow directions they receive about home isolation and quarantine, and maintain COVID-safe practices of physical distancing, coughing or sneezing into their elbow, and regularly washing their hands. Those wishing to be tested can organise a swab via their GP or by attending their nearest COVID-19 clinic. 03.01.2022 8:30pm update - Wallsend Diggers was contacted by NSW Heakth earlier this afternoon. They were advised that a person from Sydney who is Covid Confirmed entered ...the premises on Wednesday 29 or Thursday 30th July between the hours of 9pm and 11pm. NSW Health have advised the Club to undergo a Deep Clean of the entire premises as per NSW Health Guidelines. The Deep Clean is already underway. As a result of Wallsend Diggers Covid Safe Plan and record keeping within this plan they were able to immediately identify all those who were on the premises during these times. NSW Health now has all that information and will be contacting all those present within the specified times. NSW Health has advised them that the Covid Safe Plan that they have in place is excellent as they were able to provide information immediately. Please note that the Club has not been breached in any capacity. They have also been advised that they are not the only venue in the area that has been shutdown as a result of this person at this stage. NSW Health have also advised that because we are undergoing a Deep Clean tonight and had previously did a fogging 48 hours prior to this person entering the premises we will be re-opening Monday morning 3rd August 2020 at 9am. As per the guidelines, if you feel unwell then please seek medical advise or get Covid tested.
