People will doubt y...ou, criticise you but it only makes you work harder, for longer. Representing my country Australia was one of the greatest feelings you can ever imagine. I didn't just run for me but for everyone who looked up to me, in particular, for my family. For all the struggles they endured in the past, this is how I repaid them, for their sacrifices. 02.01.2022 SUPER NOVA LANDS IN THE KIMBERLEY Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris has returned to her Kimberley roots to inspire other women to achieve their goals. She’s on...e of the keynote speakers at the inaugural Kimberley Women in Sport forum, organised by Garnduwa and being held in Broome over two days. Other speakers include Colleen Hayward, a university professor who sits on the board of the Fremantle Dockers, and the first Aboriginal woman to become an AFL umpire in the region, Cissy Gore-Birch. Nova Peris was the first Aboriginal person to win gold at the Olympics, in 1996 for hockey, and switched sports to win two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in running. And the former Senator says when life gets tough for herself or her children, it’s knowing what her Kimberley family went through that pushes her on. I always say to my kids you’ve got nothing on your grandparents, the strength and resilience that they endured. My mum was a member of the stolen generation. They had hardship," the Young Australian of the year said. I’m in the position I’m in today because of what they’ve done. We can’t go forward without bringing that strength and resilience with us. #goodnews
