19.01.2022 Police Should Allow Webb Dock To Get Back To Business The Australian Logistics Council (ALC) says that after more than two weeks and two court rulings against the illegal picket at Webb Dock, it is time for police to ensure the court’s orders are enforced and legitimate business activities are permitted to resume. The freight logistics industry and the community have spent two weeks paying the price while the CFMEU and the MUA engaged in a protracted bout of political grands...tanding that is all about pursuing their own organisational interests, said ALC Managing Director, Michael Kilgariff. In early December, a court order was issued requiring the MUA to remain 100 metres away from site of the dispute. As a result, the MUA outsourced the protest to others including the CFMEU. The Victorian Supreme Court yesterday made a further order requiring the CFMEU to also remain 100 metres away from the site. This illegal picket has already cost businesses millions of dollars in the lead up to Christmas. The impact is being felt well beyond the confines of Webb Dock as consumers and businesses can’t access much needed consumer merchandise, motor vehicle components, food and medical products, Mr Kilgariff said. If a group of protestors engaged in illegal conduct by invading the MCG pitch during the Boxing Day Test, or blockaded the Government offices in Treasury Place preventing the transaction of government business, police action to remove them would follow swiftly and rightly so. Freight logistics businesses operating at Webb Dock are entitled to exactly the same protection. The courts have now made two orders against this illegal picket, and protestors have had ample opportunity to comply with those orders. If they will not do so, police should act to enforce the law and remove the picket as a matter of urgency. This illegal picket is all about the CFMEU showcasing its political and industrial muscle, ahead of a planned merger between that union and the MUA. If that merger is permitted to proceed, the type of illegality we have seen at Webb Dock over the past two weeks could become commonplace. Accordingly, ALC renews its call for the Federal Government to urgently progress legislation designed to subject the proposed union merger to a public interest test, he concluded. 10.01.2022 Dear valued clients, As always this period is one of our busiest periods of the year, but this year in particular We are currently experiencing significant ongoing delays at most of the LCL depots on the east coast of Australia. The situation is the same with inbound Airfreight cargo, the CTOs in all major airports are releasing the cargo with over 4 hours delays, with consequent delays on the whole supply chain.... We are attempting to deliver your cargo as soon as possible, however, these delays are significantly restricting our delivery times. Import LCL and Airfreight deliveries - Please ensure bookings are made by 4pm for the next day delivery. Any bookings made after 4pm will not be guaranteed a delivery the following day. We do ask for your understanding, from our end will will put pressure on our cargo handling providers to make the freight available to us faster than it currently is. Thank you in advance for your understanding. Best regards Novis Logistics
