24.01.2022 Wadja Wadja High School is connecting students to country, culture and community, offering practical real world skills and innovative programs. The school is a co-educational, non-denominational Aboriginal Community School located in the centre of Woorabinda, Queensland. It has a student population of about 80, against a backdrop of a school age population estimated at about 200 (the majority of whom are not enrolled at any school). In consultation with the community, the d...esign has been developed to create a joyful, safe, healing environment that empowers students that re-engages the broader community by providing welcoming, supportive and healing facilities and programs. The campus will offer practical real world skills and innovative programs that improve employability, and make day to day life more enjoyable (including Hospitality Practices, Vocation Education and Training (VET), Health and Physical Education (HPE) facilities, sports fields, and an Agricultural Science precinct).

23.01.2022 For us, its important to celebrate the people that make up our incredible community of clients, colleagues, friends, and families. Earlier this month we gathered at Eat Street Northshore to catch up on what has been another incredible year of growth, learning and fun!

22.01.2022 Meeting with over 50 members of staff at Hills International College, we heard their resounding desire for versatile, accessible, and all-weather outdoor places for sport, gathering, and showcasing talent. Their new HPE Precinct will act as a social and sporting hub for students during school hours, and boarders after hours. The Colleges extraordinary dance program will also get a boost, with a new outdoor stage designed for outdoor practice, performance and showcasing talent.

20.01.2022 This week we celebrated Megan and YC who have both been with us for 1 year! Congratulations and thank you for your huge contribution over the last year.

20.01.2022 Novums initial exploration of master planning and architectural considerations at Rivermount College highlighted an opportunity to strengthen physical and visual connections across the campus, providing more useable, active and social external places, while also meeting the growing schools need for additional learning areas. While the brief focused on internal learning spaces, the College was keen to enhance external areas to encourage outdoor activities, learning opportunities, and a better connected, active school community. The design has been driven by the Colleges desire to provide large, light-filled, unencumbered internal spaces while also achieving a pedestrian-friendly, well-connected campus, bolstering the schools welcoming culture.

19.01.2022 Novums Master Plan for Calvary Christian Colleges Carbrook campus includes the re-imagining of the sites centrepiece, a former Expo 88 pavilion. The Pavilion had previously been completely enclosed, physically and visually blocking connections across the site. Our plan to save the historic structure, creating a much needed covered, social and collaborative learning space, is set to become the heart of the campus as part of Calvarys wider re-invigoration of their learning, social and community spaces.

18.01.2022 Tec-NQ is a rarity in the Australian educational sector: they are a secondary school and a Registered Training Organisation all in one, offering full-time apprentice training, school-based apprentice programs and other trade training to school-aged students. Novums involvement with Tec-NQ was sparked by their desire to redevelop their Boarding Accommodation site in Rosslea. Shortly after a Concept Design was completed, the site was inundated by the 2019 Townsville flooding ...event, displacing students and staff that called the facility home. In response, the design was further developed in consultation with the client, engineers and town planners to minimise the impact of future potential flood events, without compromising the home-like atmosphere, or learning and recreational capabilities. The accommodation will ultimately house 80 students and staff, with an on-site kitchen, laundry, dining, recreational and learning areas.

18.01.2022 A consultative process with Toowoomba Grammar Schools teachers and executive staff resulted in a re-imagining of their existing Roberts classroom building, transforming it into a contemporary learning centre that encourages team teaching and collaborative learning. Novums involvement included the design and documentation of building works, as well as the internal finishes, audio visual equipment, furniture selections and fitout. Working closely with the teaching staff, the... designs key considerations include flexibility of furniture arrangements, comfortable and robust furniture and fitout, direct access and supervision of breakout spaces, improved natural and artificial lighting (including control of lighting and potential glare), writable and pinnable surfaces, acoustic quality (sound absorption) and acoustic separation (including high performance operable walls and glazing). 18.01.2022 Creating spaces for individual, collaborative, quiet and noisy learners to coexist in a small existing wing of The Womens College within the University of Queensland was a challenge met with high-performance glass partitions, sound-absorbing internal finishes, natural light, and comfortable furniture.

16.01.2022 As the school grows, St James Lutheran College has worked with us to develop new collaborative spaces that support contemporary learning. Large, visually connected and unobstructed spaces will allow for a wide array of learning modes, with the flexibility to easy and quickly move, rearrange and re-focus students, supported by moveable, collaborative furniture and technology. The new Secondary GLA building merges spatial, environmental, furniture and technology considerations to create supportive, engaging learning places.

16.01.2022 The Multipurpose Hall at Coolum Beach Christian College has been designed with versatility and flexibility in mind. Novums design features high ceilings, robust linings, operable doors and windows for natural ventilation, and roller shutters for dividing up the space to allow sporting, Performing Arts, or other Auditorium-style events occur without disruption to the adjacent space. Prioritising sporting and Performing Arts activities, the Hall will become a hub of activity... for the College, celebrating the schools vibrant community and inviting engagement between parents, students and staff. Adjacent to the existing sporting field, the new building will house amenities and change rooms, HPE equipment storage, and covered sports, fitness and social areas, with direct access to new car parking, and setdown areas. The unique site conditions also mean that the Hall, suspended above a new undercroft area, will provide a shaded, terraced area for spectators, students, and staff to congregate and enjoy Coolums beautiful weather.

14.01.2022 Located in the coastal city of Hervey Bay, Queensland, St James Lutheran College is a Kindergarten to Year 12 co-educational school with a strong Christian ethos empowering their students to shape a better world. Novums original engagement was for a large sporting and performing arts hall, providing opportunities for all-weather sporting activities and all-school assemblies. Our scope has since expanded to also include a Performing Arts Centre, Hospitality Centre, Tuckshop ...Caf, Administration Centre expansion and Secondary GLA building. These additions to our scope were sparked by consultation with the school as we reviewed their existing Master Plan and explored some underutilised opportunities to better connect the campus, improve the schools street appeal, and provide activated, welcoming external spaces for sport, play, gathering, and connecting with school parents.

13.01.2022 Set on its very own tropical hillside, Coolum Beach Christian College makes the most of its scenic surroundings, brimming with lush outdoor spaces, fishponds, and playgrounds. We have been busy developing a design that accommodates a large Multipurpose Hall perched on the side of a steep, rocky incline, and providing a fresh new face to the nearby main road. While the chosen site has its difficulties, including challenging access and relatively high excavation and retaining c...osts, it presents many exciting site-specific opportunities, too. It is in prime position for putting the schools high-quality facilities and picturesque surroundings on show by addressing the busy street frontage, and for providing its occupants with sweeping views of the College and tropical surroundings. Its chosen location will also mark the first stage in an expanded, dedicated Secondary School precinct, bringing in-ground services and vehicular access to a currently undeveloped area. Coolum Beach Christian College is a K-12 independent coeducational school located in Coolum Beach, Queensland with a focus on teaching holistic values that build compassionate and informed citizens.

10.01.2022 Tec-NQ’s new boarding accommodation facility in Rosslea will eventually accommodate 80 students and staff and has been designed with regional boarding students, and Townsville locals in mind. The facility centres around a large outdoor recreation area, with BBQ facilities, mini-golf, and basketball court, adjoining a common dining room and commercial kitchen. The kitchen will serve double duty, catering to boarding students while also providing Hospitality trade training to ...boarding and day students. Common areas throughout the facility provide opportunities for home-like social and recreational activities, while the student accommodation rooms have been designed to give each student semi-private space for their own personalisation. Tec-NQ is a secondary school and a Registered Training Organisation all in one, offering full-time apprentice training, school-based apprentice programs and other trade training to school-aged students boarding and day students.

10.01.2022 Wadja Wadja High School: A welcoming, empowering, supportive, and healing centre specifically designed for local indigenous students Over the last 3 years, Novum has partnered with the Woorabinda community to seek a detailed understanding of the local communitys social and cultural context, and the towns very real economic, health, and wellbeing challenges. Novums engagement by the local community and indigenous Elders was triggered by their recognised need for a welcomin...g, empowering, supportive, and healing centre specifically designed for local indigenous students. The existing school campus is small in area (approximately 9,490m2), and due to the number of buildings accommodated, provides few outdoor areas and no sportsground. Working with the school community and Elders, a plan to relocate the school campus to a more suitable site has been developed, with the support of the school community, indigenous elders and local Council. The new site is located just outside of town, on a sprawling, naturally beautiful site, and has been Master Planned to better respond to the needs of the students and their broader community.

04.01.2022 St James Lutheran Colleges desire to bolster their connections with the local community led to a design that presents a fresh, friendly face to their main street frontage. The Master Plan intentionally located community spaces (including a Multipurpose Hall and Tuckshop Caf) alongside the entrance to attract parents and visitors into the campus, encouraging interactions between students, staff, parents and visitors. The creation of a distinct front door to the campus all...ows first time visitors to find their way around, while also centralising pedestrian traffic in a vibrant, active location, putting the Colleges welcoming culture on show. Flowing on from the schools front door, buildings are clustered around a new pedestrian street which offers glimpses into dynamic learning spaces, including flexible, contemporary classrooms, Hospitality, Performing Arts, Reception and Student Services, and direct access to key members of staff.
