23.01.2022 BREATHE The average person takes between 17,000-20,000 breaths per day! Yeah, that’s heaps! So it really makes a difference to our lives how we breathe. Yogis have long known this and it is integral to the practice. It is arguably what makes a yoga practice, along with mindfulness. If you’ve practised with Thy, you know she LOVES talking about breathing through the nose and its infinite benefits. It’s why even in our workout class- LIIT, she keeps harping on about nose brea...thing only! Thy is currently reading a great book by James Nestor called Breath and she was reminded of a some great facts, gained new insights, and learning even more fascinating information about the breath and it’s effects on us. Here are just a few... Breathing through your nose can lower blood pressure, help maintain a steady heart rate, and even help with memory consolidation. The benefits of nasal breathing are associated with how this breathing purifies, heats, moistens, and pressurises the air. These changes to the air increase oxygen absorption by approximately 10-15%. Nasal breathing increases nitric oxide levels by six times. Nitric oxide is associated with better blood circulation. Better blood circulation is associated with having more energy throughout the day. Pick up this book today and keep breathing through your nose all day! Especially when you’re doing yoga of course! #breathe #jamesnestor #breathbook #readmore #nasalbreathing #pranayama #livetolearn

18.01.2022 We love yin yoga and hope you do too! Sometimes it’s more your body that loves it, whilst your mind struggles to let go, and other times, it’s the opposite. If you don’t already practice yin, here are some great reminders why you should! Yin yoga can help us become more resilient to stress. Yin can help improve flexibility and increase blood circulation. Yin practice offers a unique opportunity to cultivate gratitude for the body.... The long hold times of a yin practice offer the chance to sit with our emotions. The poses and lengths of hold release fascia/connective tissue in the body which can assist with injury prevention and improve joint mobility. Yin teachers can sequence classes specific to energetic meridian lines to support the health of our internal organs and improve the flow of chi or prana. Join us for a yin class soon! Book your class early in advance, and if the class you want to book yourself into is full, put your name down on the waitlist; odds have been good lately that you will make it in! (Gentle reminder that if you cannot make a class you’ve booked into, cancel ASAP so another lovely yogi can enjoy!) #yinyoga #practice #breathe #balance #benefitsofyoga #yogarosebery

15.01.2022 Let the ocean remind you of how similar we are to it. That we can be beautiful and mysterious. That we can be wild or calm when we choose. That we, ourselves, are a source of healing. 15.01.2022 One of our favourite ways to decompress and get instantly relaxed is making time for the beach. And we are so lucky in Sydney that it’s so easily accessible! There's nothing like a breath of fresh air, the smell of the ocean and feel of it on your face, soaking up some sunshine and connecting to a natural environment that helps to clear the mind. Increased exposure to beaches, natural green spaces like parks, and bush land have the ability to help reduce blood pressure, h...eart rate, muscle tension and the production of stress hormones in the body. Get outside, explore, take some "me-time" to un-plug and connect to yourself. If you've never tried meditation, sit in an inspiring nature spot for a few minutes, relax your breath, close your eyes and let yourself be. #mindfulness #meditation #nature #gooutside #peace #ocean #oceanhealing #nsw #sydney #beaches

10.01.2022 ? So you may have noticed that some of our teachers are no longer saying Namaste at the end of our classes. It has been a topic of late in the yoga community and our team is now thinking more about it after having listened to a great podcast (Yogaland) with @andreaferretti and guest @susannabarkataki. In the podcast, Susanna talks about the word Namaste and explains that in speaking and when translated, it means "bow to you" and is a greeting of respect. S...he also talks about the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation. It is a thought-provoking conversation and really important as yoga practitioners to open ourselves up to these issues. This is an opportunity to truly practise your yoga off-the-mat. As teachers, we do love the meaning of Namaste and may even say it at the start of the class. Some of our teachers will continue to say it at the end of class. We will do so for our own reasons and values and you are welcome and encouraged to ask us about our choice! When we do not finish with saying Namaste, we will still close the class in other ways and you will know. You can still say Namaste in your mind, or even aloud if you like! We know it can feel weird to lose this part of class, but that’s normal - change can be awkward, but through change, we grow! We highly recommend listening to Yogaland podcast episode 216 bit.ly/3qpi7AL . Tell us what your thoughts are! Have a conversation with one of our teachers to question, comment and talk out how you might be feeling about this - whether you’re on board with it or not. We believe the process of yoga is a living thing and this is real-live yoga in action! Learn, question, feel (uncomfortable, annoyed, curious, empowered feel something!) and start a conversation about something that is meaningful. It’s so much more interesting than another comment about the weather.
10.01.2022 ... from where you’d probably rather be! 08.01.2022 A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor. ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt In your ocean of life, when it gets choppy, rough or wild, and the winds are raging or the storm is incoming, remember that you have the tools to see you through. ... As yogis, we believe that many of these skills to navigate life and hard times can be cultivated through our yoga practice. Knowing how to stay calm and focused, to do what needs to be done and when to do it. And there are times when you are in new territory and facing things you’ve never faced, be reminded of your strength and that as you navigate the waves of challenge and come out the other side, you will become even more adept and adaptable to anything that comes your way; you will be that skilful sailor. #practice #livingyoga #goodquote

31.12.2021 Happy Lunar New Year! 2022 is the year of the Water Tiger! In Chinese mythology and culture, the tiger is considered the king of all animals. It symbolises power, courage, confidence, leadership and strength. In terms of the Tiger Year, it is associated with vitality and strength; sounds like our kind of year! For those who celebrate it, enjoy the week (or month!) of traditional and cultural celebrations with your nearest and dearest. ... #yearofthetiger #lunarnewyear #happylunarnewyear
20.12.2021 Have you practised with Ella yet? She’s been teaching with us for awhile now and is an wellspring of knowledge and inspiration! Here’s who she is, in her own words I was born in Sydney, but grew up in steamy tropical Darwin, so stepping into the hot room to teach always feels a little like going home (minus the fruit bats and cyclones).... Yoga and I first met over 15 years ago when I was studying to be an actor. Back then yoga was a vehicle to push my physical limits, to escape my anxiety through sensation, and my ego was stoked that I could make some cool shapes. But stay in a vehicle long enough and you'll end up travelling somewhere else My yoga journey certainly hasn't been linear, I had an on-off relationship with it for a long time travelling as a gigging actor, trying to adult, plus a good whack of resistance to embracing Yoga's healing and balancing benefits saw me keeping it at an arms distance. But each time I returned to my mat I was gifted a softer, stronger and more centered version of myself. Eventually the excuses fell away, and I now feel incredibly lucky to share this alchemical practice with others for a living. I believe movement and breath are gateways to personal transformation and I offer a strong practice coupled with smart sequencing designed to challenge, support and empower you on, and ultimately off, the mat. Others joys that fill my cup include scary movies , red wine , washed rind cheese , art galleries , theatres , coffee , music festivals , fancy dress , and the ocean - seeing, smelling or being in it are a balm for my soul. I'm so excited to be part a part of the Now community and I look forward to practicing with you soon.
