23.01.2022 Andy Muir & Dave Bull . North Perth Tennis Club is very proud of two of our members who have been part of the front line effort fighting the Wooroloo bushfire this past week. . Andy Muir - Originally from New Zealand, arriving in Australia in 2000, is a helicopter pilot with 20 years experience. Andy has been involved in providing aerial support for DFES/DBCA for fires in WA, performing in several different roles - a Helitak Suppression Pilot (dropping water on the ...fires), Air Intelligence Surveillance (HD Infra-red gyro-stabilised externally mounted heli-cam, giving real-time images/footage of any incident), and currently, as a Primary Air Attack (PAA) Pilot. . During this past week, Andy as a PAA pilot, ‘sits’ over the fires with DFES/DBCA supervisors, to coordinate all aviation assets at the fires (ie. Helitaks, fixed-wing water bombers, large air tankers and media). . Andy states, Although an extremely rewarding role to help protect our communities, it comes with the fact that you witness the devastation that comes with wild bush fires like the current one in Wooroloo. This devastation is something you can never get used to. . Dave Bull - Long time NPTC member Dave Bull, is an experienced career firefighter. Joining the Fire Service in 1992, Dave is currently stationed at Malaga where he has been since 2003. He has put in many hours this week fighting the Wooroloo bushfire. Dave and his fellow firefighters on the ground often survive on minimal sleep and food, which has certainly been the case this summer. . Dave says, Devastating wildfires are dangerous and unpredictable. We do our best to keep everybody safe, but unfortunately this is sometimes out of our control. The many successful outcomes are satisfying and rewarding. The work that Andy does as a Helitak pilot is invaluable and makes our job so much easier. An enormous amount of teamwork is necessary in these situations. . 18.01.2022 NPTC Alumni, Outstanding Achiever: Brodie James - The Australian Ballet, Soloist. . Brodie James, a WA home grown 90’s baby, and a third generation James to play at NPTC, graced our courts as he began to pursue his passion as a professional dancer and athlete. .... Brodie, who currently resides in Melbourne, began his dance training with jazz and acrobatics at the Jody Marshall Dance Company in 2001. He trained at The Graduate College of Dance from 2005 under the direction of Dawn Weller. Brodie was offered a scholarship to attend The Australian Ballet School in 2008; while there he spent time studying at Canada’s National Ballet School as an exchange student. He toured with The Dancers Company in 2011 and joined The Australian Ballet in 2012. In 2014, Brodie participated in a dancer exchange, performing with the Royal Ballet of Flanders in Antwerp. Brodie was promoted to coryphee in 2017, and to soloist in 2018. . PROFESSIONAL ACCOLADES . Awards: Telstra Ballet Dancer Award nominations - 2016, 2018 . 04.01.2022 NPTC Outstanding Achiever: Sylvia Cornes - Actor, Musician. . Local North Perth artist, Sylvia Cornes, was gifted with a few talents, none of which is tennis...though she’s always up for a hit with her family, current members at NPTC. .... Performing in her own musical cabaret shows that pay tribute to niche artists, such as Françoise Hardy and Rickie Lee Jones, is apparently her shtick. . Sylvia has had a passion for performance from a young age. At the age of twelve she landed her first character role as Katisha in The Mikado, and since then was never quite able to shake off being typecast as the bitter older woman... Sylviacontinued to study and perform drama and music throughout high school and university, and in 2016 travelled to the UK to do a semester exchange at the University of Leeds. . Sylvia has appeared in multiple local productions, including The Cockatoos (2019), Ladies in Black (2019), Maisie (2019), Stuck (2018) and Macbeth (2018). She has toured to Sydney Fringe (Stuck, 2018) and performed at the King Street Pocket Jazz Festival (2019). . In 2020, thanks to her publicist Frances Spencer, Sylvia's debut self-produced Fringe show 'Françoise and Friends' sold out its entire season at the Ellington Jazz Club. .
