25.01.2022 QUEENSLAND ECONOMICS - ABS National accounts figures released by the ABS today show that Queensland's economic growth (annual change in gross state product) f...ell by -1.1% over the 2019-20 financial year, the first time it has contracted since the ABS series began in 1990. The figures also show that living standards in the state (proxied by change in real gross state product per capita) fell for a consecutive year by -2.6%, also the largest contraction on record. ABS commentary: "Queensland GSP fell 1.1%, the state's first fall in recorded history. Queensland recorded a larger contraction compared to the national result due to larger falls in private investment. Dwelling investment continued to fall due to oversupply of high-density apartments following high levels of investment in 2014-15 and 2015-16. New engineering construction continued to fall, reflecting reduced investment by LNG and coal miners. This was reflected in a fall in Construction and Professional, Scientific and Technical Services GVA. Public Administration and Safety GVA partly offset the falls as the government responded to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as increased spending on frontline services. Queensland was the only state to record a fall in nominal GSP, reflecting the sharp falls in coal and LNG prices experienced in 2019-20."
24.01.2022 TRAFFIC SIGNALS AND COORDINATION IN TOWNSVILLE IS THE WORST SYSTEM IN QUEENSLAND IF NOT AUSTRALIA-TERRIBLE! We must be one of the very few left that remembers when traffic signal coordination actually- worked in Townsville. What was that we heard you say, because now, it would be the worst run system in the world and that is no joke. We asked the Mayor Jenny Hill about this coordination’s system in a Community meeting and said that the Department of Main roads which the origi...Continue reading
24.01.2022 What the Australian Government has signed you up for This article was published in The World Economic Forum on the 11th of November 2016. ''Welcome to the yea...r 2030. Welcome to my city - or should I say, "our city". I don't own anything. I don't own a car. I don't own a house. I don't own any appliances or any clothes. It might seem odd to you, but it makes perfect sense for us in this city. Everything you considered a product, has now become a service. We have access to transportation, accommodation, food and all the things we need in our daily lives. One by one all these things became free, so it ended up not making sense for us to own much. First communication became digitized and free to everyone. Then, when clean energy became free, things started to move quickly. Transportation dropped dramatically in price. It made no sense for us to own cars anymore, because we could call a driverless vehicle or a flying car for longer journeys within minutes. We started transporting ourselves in a much more organized and coordinated way when public transport became easier, quicker and more convenient than the car. Now I can hardly believe that we accepted congestion and traffic jams, not to mention the air pollution from combustion engines. What were we thinking? Sometimes I use my bike when I go to see some of my friends. I enjoy the exercise and the ride. It kind of gets the soul to come along on the journey. Funny how some things seem never seem to lose their excitement: walking, biking, cooking, drawing and growing plants. It makes perfect sense and reminds us of how our culture emerged out of a close relationship with nature. "Environmental problems seem far away" In our city we don't pay any rent, because someone else is using our free space whenever we do not need it. My living room is used for business meetings when I am not there. Once in awhile, I will choose to cook for myself. It is easy - the necessary kitchen equipment is delivered at my door within minutes. Since transport became free, we stopped having all those things stuffed into our home. Why keep a pasta-maker and a crepe cooker crammed into our cupboards? We can just order them when we need them. This also made the breakthrough of the circular economy easier. When products are turned into services, no one has an interest in things with a short life span. Everything is designed for durability, repairability and recyclability. The materials are flowing more quickly in our economy and can be transformed to new products pretty easily. Environmental problems seem far away, since we only use clean energy and clean production methods. The air is clean, the water is clean and nobody would dare to touch the protected areas of nature because they constitute such value to our well being. In the cities we have plenty of green space and plants and trees all over. I still do not understand why in the past we filled all free spots in the city with concrete. The death of shopping: Shopping? I can't really remember what that is. For most of us, it has been turned into choosing things to use. Sometimes I find this fun, and sometimes I just want the algorithm to do it for me. It knows my taste better than I do by now. When AI and robots took over so much of our work, we suddenly had time to eat well, sleep well and spend time with other people. The concept of rush hour makes no sense anymore, since the work that we do can be done at any time. I don't really know if I would call it work anymore. It is more like thinking-time, creation-time and development-time. For a while, everything was turned into entertainment and people did not want to bother themselves with difficult issues. It was only at the last minute that we found out how to use all these new technologies for better purposes than just killing time. "They live different kinds of lives outside of the city" My biggest concern is all the people who do not live in our city. Those we lost on the way. Those who decided that it became too much, all this technology. Those who felt obsolete and useless when robots and AI took over big parts of our jobs. Those who got upset with the political system and turned against it. They live different kind of lives outside of the city. Some have formed little self-supplying communities. Others just stayed in the empty and abandoned houses in small 19th century villages. Once in awhile I get annoyed about the fact that I have no real privacy. No where I can go and not be registered. I know that, somewhere, everything I do, think and dream of is recorded. I just hope that nobody will use it against me. All in all, it is a good life. Much better than the path we were on, where it became so clear that we could not continue with the same model of growth. We had all these terrible things happening: lifestyle diseases, climate change, the refugee crisis, environmental degradation, completely congested cities, water pollution, air pollution, social unrest and unemployment. We lost way too many people before we realised that we could do things differently. Author's note: Some people have read this blog as my utopia or dream of the future. It is not. It is a scenario showing where we could be heading - for better and for worse. I wrote this piece to start a discussion about some of the pros and cons of the current technological development. When we are dealing with the future, it is not enough to work with reports. We should start discussions in many new ways. This is the intention with this piece.'' Learn what ''The Great Reset'' really is. It is the death of freedom and essentially World Communism.
23.01.2022 FIRST THEY CAME FOR THE VICTORIANS- WHO NEXT - THE QUEENSLANDERS! We often see now in Australia the loss of democracy to corruption and authoritarian is now gra...dually sneaking in under the cover of disinterest the "she be right" attitude by the people in the electorate, especially in Victoria and Queensland. We have seen the corruption of democracy, the manipulation of elections and voting, the manipulation of Postal vote applications in Queensland, the complete flouting of the laws surrounding the good governance, and now in Victoria the introduction of such draconian laws that make you a victim in your own State and Town. From the Article:- Victorian government has introduced a bill in Parliament that gives sweeping powers to certain authorised officers to arrest and detain people for an indefinite period of time. The proposed legislation effectively consolidates Victoria as a police state where informers and collaborators will assist the authorities in tracing and incarcerating their fellow citizens without warrants, on the basis of prospective conduct. Called the COVID-19 Omnibus (Emergency Measures) Amendment Bill, this proposed legislation will operate side-by-side with the powers already in operation under the current emergency powers. The proposed legislation effectively consolidates Victoria as a police state where informers and collaborators will assist the authorities in tracing and incarcerating their fellow citizens without warrants, on the basis of prospective conduct. We at Townsville residents and ratepayers are saying to you the voter that if you allow the current Labor government to remain in power this is the very direction they will head in once elected. For once your future is in your hands and if you want to continue down this path then your future is in your hands. 23.01.2022 SO IT APPEARS THAT THE LABOR STATE GOVERNMENT HAS INCREASED THE HUGE GROWTH IN GOVERNMENT RED TAPE RIGHT WHEN WE NEED A REDUCTION IN RED TAPE TO HELP OUR ECONOM...Y GROW. Very strange that the Annastacia Palaszczuk State Labor government has really NOT said anything about this in their election speeches or the rebuilding of the State's economy after the Covid-19 pandemic which wasn't. Regulations rushed through in Qld, as revealed by QPC Annual Report 2019-20 by Gene Tunny The Queensland Productivity Commission’s 2019-20 Annual Report has revealed a huge increase in the number of state government regulatory changes which have been excluded from the rigour of the normal regulatory assessment process (see chart below, which is based on eyeballing Figure 1.3 on p. 15 of the QPC’s Annual Report). This process usually involves the preparation of a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) and public consultation. Note that PIA stands for Preliminary Impact Assessment, a much less rigorous review than a RIS, and PIR stands for Post-Implementation Review. The number of proposals being excluded from the rigorous review process (because they are self-assessed by agencies as being minor) has grown by around 80% since 2017-18. The number of proposals being subject to a PIA (i.e. a less rigorous review) has more than doubled since 2017-18, signaling a huge growth in red tape, and it appears only a fraction of regulations going through a PIA end up going through the full RIS process. Note that the huge growth in regulatory proposals started before COVID, with a big jump in 2018-19. While the number of proposals undergoing a full RIS or PIA has more than doubled since 2017-18, that largely reflects the huge growth in regulatory proposals being advanced by Queensland Government agencies, and it’s still a relatively small number of proposals being fully assessed. Overall, my reading of the data is that Queensland Government agencies have been over-active in creating new regulations over the last few years. It's likely many of those regulations are unnecessary or poorly designed. Incidentally, Joe Branigan and I commented on the upcoming transfer of the QPC into Queensland Treasury in our Queensland Budget update report prepared for the Australian Institute for Progress: It is also disappointing that, at a time when high-quality independent economic policy advice is required more than ever before, the Queensland Productivity Commission...has been also absorbed back into Queensland Treasury. I trust the Government will still release information on the number of proposals going through (or not going through) the RIS process after the QPC is moved into the Treasury. For more on regulation, check out my recently published CIS Policy Paper Rationalising Regulation. So look out Queensland Business and ordinary folk you are about to get screwed over again. 22.01.2022 SELECT COMMITTEE ON CORRUPTION IN QUEENSLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO ADDRESS THE GROSS MISUSE OF COMMONWEALTH AND STATE DISASTER FUNDS UNDER THE PROCUREMENT PROCESS...ORS OF THE LGAQ. Malcolm Roberts - Pauline Hanson's One Nation PRESS RELEASE Through the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Ltd the deep corruption that had been culturally entrenched in Ipswich and Logan Councils, is ingeniously and systemically infecting many other Queensland councils. Senator Malcolm Roberts lodged a Senate motion this week calling for a Select Committee on Corruption in Queensland Local Government to be established to address the gross misuse of Commonwealth and State Disaster Funds, under the procurement practices of LGAQ Ltd and Queensland councils. Senator Roberts said, Evidence shows that around 50% of the funded disaster money is siphoned into areas that currently avoid detection and is not used for the benefit of the community. Listening to many contractors and staff state-wide has uncovered a depth of dishonesty with public money that law-abiding citizens will find it hard to believe, but it is true. The National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) is the agency through which councils receive disaster recovery funding. From 2011 2019 all Queensland councils received a blockbuster $5.339 billion, 75% from the federal government and 25% from the state. The LGAQ’s unfettered existence benefits from two statutory provisions. Firstly rule 234 of the Local Government Regulations 2012 exempts a Council from calling for quotes or contractors to tender if the contract is entered using the LGAQ as an intermediary. This practice, considered unlawful collusion in all states except Queensland, allows LGAQ’s procurement entity Local Buy, to award disaster recovery projects to anointed contractors that can be encouraged to inflate prices, use substandard materials and deliver inferior workmanship to maximize profit. The other problem is s591 of the Industrial Relations Act 1999, that exempts LGAQ Ltd from appointing an independent auditor to inspect financial records. Senator Roberts stated, Access to large sums of disaster money, rule 234 and exemption from financial auditing, allows immunity from scrutiny and transparency creating a hot bed of systemic corruption. A 2019 audit of Queensland Councils by the QLD Audit Office identified $793 million worth of assets including roads missing from public registers of 44 councils during 2017-2019. The report stated that overspending, incomplete asset registers and systemic poor internal controls were widespread across Queensland Councils making fraud easy to do. Queensland’s state government and the Crime and Corruption Commission are aware of these alleged corrupt practices and have inexplicably declined to investigate. Senator Roberts added, A Senate Committee will ensure an independent investigation, void of political interference, into these corrupt practices. Every Queensland council should welcome the scrutiny to give ratepayers reassurance their council’s governance and fiscal management are both moral and legal. https://www.malcolmrobertsqld.com.au/select-committee.../
21.01.2022 SO WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH E PETITION 3397-20 FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH THAT INVOLVED THE MAYOR JENNY HILL EARLIER THIS YEAR AFTER AN IN-HOUSE MEETING BETWEEN SENIOR POLICE OFFICIAL AND THE PREVIOUS CEO OF THE COUNCIL. Well, the petition 3397-20 has been scheduled for a response today as and yet we have received no reply....of cause the Queensland parliament is in the caretaker mode so we will most likely get nothing. From the legislation https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/.../act-1...899-009... As far as our limited knowledge of legal law goes we suspect that under the Criminal Code Act 1899 328A Dangerous operation of a vehicle (1)A person who operates, or in any way interferes with the operation of, a vehicle dangerously in any place commits a misdemeanor. Maximum penalty200 penalty units or 3 years imprisonment. (2)If the offender (a)at the time of committing the offense is adversely affected by an intoxicating substance; or (b)at the time of committing the offense is excessively speeding or taking part in an unlawful race or unlawful speed trial; or (c)has been previously convicted either upon indictment or summarily of an offense against this section; the person commits a crime. Maximum penalty400 penalty units or 5 years imprisonment. But as we say here it will depend upon just what the Police services decide to proceed with, in this case. We are wondering just why there has been some 6 months delay in processing this case when if it were an ordinary person this would have been processed and finished in a shorter time. 21.01.2022 FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE IT APPEARS THAT THE MP'S USE THE PARLIAMENT AS A "PLAYGROUND" AND ARE LIKE CHILDREN IN A SANDBOX MOST OF THE TIME WITHOUT PAYING ATTENTION ...TO THEIR ACTUAL JOBS! From Thommo's Tales DISAPPOINTED IN PARLIAMENTARY PROCESS, ABUSE OF POWER & STATE GOVERNMENT REPRESENTATION In August 2020, I was given a unique opportunity as a candidate to see how parliament really works, behind the scenes, as a grateful guest of Mr. Stephen Andrew MP, State Member of Mirani for four (4) days. It provided visibility into what is not achieved in the chamber during parliamentary sittings, the childish antics, the egos, excessive spending whilst in the house, drinking, bed-hopping, and poor social behaviors. It was further confirmation that many of the elected political representatives (not all) are so far away from ‘real-life normality’, completely disconnected to the communities they represent, under-qualified and incompetent in conducting day to day business, let alone running a state budget. Whilst I may be politically naive to some, I have worked at international executive levels of business, across many countries in 7 years, the world I’m from was never about bullying, blackmail, intimidation, corruption & outright prevention of civil liberties as it is in and around the government. Over the coming month, I intend to discuss my ‘political’ journey, from start to finish. Add this to my recent years working closely with local, state, and federal governments, as an executive in a community role, often allowed into offices and inner sanctums of standing members, I’ve witnessed preferential treatments, unethical alignments, leveraging, and protecting elite for personal gain. Is it a wonder I was on the receiving end of serious threats and intimidation? 17.01.2022 Thommo's Tales GET BEHIND JEN ALEXANDER for ONP Thuringowa A local who has experienced first-hand crime as a victim. Jen is passionate about Townsville, owns... a local business, married to Michael, an all-round good bloke, and ex-military, definitely a good candidate, someone I know, and would trust as a local member. She is competent and will be someone I’ll be pushing to the front. Many people were asking how my vote for Thuringowa will go; ONP, LNP, UAP, KAP & ALP. Remember, YOU OWN YOUR preferences, a how-to-vote card is just a guideline, nothing more, HTV cards screwed up many elections in the past, it really is YOUR CHOICE. I personally cannot bring myself to support KAP, I just find their left tendencies, current union memberships/alignment & the Labor preferencing of the past too hard to get over. I know they are NQ based, but they’ve done deals in the past with Labor. They have a good bloke & leader in Robbie, but he’s in one seat only, not all seats, you have to vote for the candidate, that candidate must be competent for the electorate, again my opinion only. Good luck Jen Alexander you have my support. YOUR COMMENTS ABD FEEDBACK WELCOME

11.01.2022 WHY HAS THERE BEEN AN INCREASE IN COMPLAINTS AGAINST COUNCILORS REPORTED TO THE OFFICE OF INDEPENDENT ASSESSOR WE WONDER COULD IT BE THAT CORRUPTION IS GETTING ...WORSE? With a 12% increase in complaints during the past year, and we know why, including the fact that the State government is trying to assists the Councils to self govern in this area which can only be similar to putting the fox in the chicken house and asking him not to eat chicken which is a ridiculous action in the first instance. The mear fact that to us at Townsville Residents and ratepayers who have had considerable interaction with the CCC and the Independent Assessor for this action to be successful was to us not achievable in the first place. Most councils and in fact the CCC and associated State Government offices only record "nothing to see here " responses and that has also been publically clear with regard to the very public cases of Jackie Trad for example. We are also including the Information Commissioner in this as well as continually Council Officers blocked Fight To information request for in some cases years. 05.01.2022 JUST WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT PFAS CONTAMINATION IN TOWNSVILLE HEALTH WISE Well basically it is called Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of m...an-made chemicals that includes PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and many other chemicals and are basically persistent in the environment and in the human body meaning they don’t break down and they can accumulate over time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse human health effects. Nice! WHERE DO WE FIND IT :- https://www.epa.gov/pfas/basic-information-pfas PFAS can be found in: Food packaged in PFAS-containing materials, processed with equipment that used PFAS, or grown in PFAS-contaminated soil or water. Commercial household products, including stain- and water-repellent fabrics, non-stick products (e.g., Teflon), polishes, waxes, paints, cleaning products, and fire-fighting foams (a major source of groundwater contamination at airports and military bases where firefighting training occurs). Workplace, including production facilities or industries (e.g., chrome plating, electronics manufacturing, or oil recovery) that use PFAS. Drinking water, typically localized, and associated with a specific facility (e.g., manufacturer, landfill, wastewater treatment plant, firefighter training facility). Living organisms, including fish, animals, and humans, where PFAS have the ability to build up and persist over time. So in short it is bloody dangerous to your health and most likely lethal to humans yet we have heard very little about it from the State Labor Government and next to nothing from the Townsville City Council. Dare say that we know more about flooding levels than PFAS levels, but we know which is more dangerous. We also understand that dust and leaching is also involved in the mobility of the contaminate. HEALTH Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney, and immunological effects in laboratory animals. Both chemicals have caused tumours in animal studies. The most consistent findings from human epidemiology studies are increased cholesterol levels among exposed populations, with more limited findings related to: infant birth weights, effects on the immune system, cancer (for PFOA), and thyroid hormone disruption (for PFOS). On the 22 September 2020 a council press release said The Council Laboratory service became capable of testing for PFAS and you can find the details at the following address https://www.townsville.qld.gov.au//0023//PFAS-Analysis.pdf but there was very little notification to the public as to why Townsville Council suddenly ended up with this capability but now we know.Yes from what we can find there is no public awareness campaign regarding it . Strange we wonder why? Well we just happened to have stumbled upon a development in Garbutt which is quietly digging up material in large quantities and going to use it as subdivision development fill under in a current construction taking place. The question is has the council taken it responsibility of health and safety of the Public into account, we fear not otherwise there would be warning signs covering entire area. We also find out that the responsible person is the owner of the land and unless asked by the real-estate agent, or prospective buyer, they are under no responsibility to expose it. So much for the Buyer and the health of future occupants. In this particular instance we actually wondered just who else is in the line of responsibility so we researched the division which was 3 and found the Councillor is Cr Ann Maree Greaney who just happens to be the Community Health ,safety and environmental sustainability committee member as well. Make you wonder just how seriously Cr Greaney take here position? WE ASK Is council aware of its responsibilities under health management especially considering they are also responsible for approving subdivisions and maintain health and safety under the PFES awareness. We also ask just what is the situation with the Cleveland Bay Youth detention centre and the RSL retirement homes as well? We do suggest that you should research the property you are situated on and then calculate your health risk accordingly. The Fact that class action is under way for property value devaluation is underway way is a separate issue to the Health of the Occupiers. ADITIONAL INFORMATION AVAILABILITY https://www.aph.gov.au///InquiryintoPFAS/Report_1/section https://www.crccare.com//CRCCARETechreport43_PFASpractitio We do suggest that anyone that is close to Lavarack Barracks and the Weirs as the water and soil is also contamination. Ms O'Callaghan will start her duties in February 2021. Destination Gold Coast said the process to appoint a new CEO commenced four months ago, with more than 300 applicants vying for the job. 02.01.2022 A BROKEN SYSTEM WITH CONTRADICTORY LAWS. THE OFFENDERS HAVE TOO MANY RIGHTS, YET ITS IN BLACK & WHITE, DETAIN IF THERES RISK OF REOFFENDING FROM TOMMO'S TALES there is an unacceptable risk of the child committing an offense that endangers the safety of the community, or the safety or welfare of a person, allow youth offenders to be released, no wonder we are still in CATCH & RELEASE MODE, the left-hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing. YOUTH JUSTICE BAIL ACT AMENDMENTS 2020 The amendments provide clear guidance for courts and police when deciding whether to release or grant bail to a child or young person who is charged with offenses. The amendments apply if there is an unacceptable risk of reoffending by a child and they are a danger to the community. A new section in the YJ Act (section 48AAA(2)) changes the previous test from may keep a child in custody to must keep a child in custody where police or courts determine: there is an unacceptable risk of the child committing an offense that endangers the safety of the community, or the safety or welfare of a person, and the risk cannot be adequately reduced by making bail conditions. It remains the case that police and courts can keep a child in custody in certain other circumstances, such as where there is an unacceptable risk that the child will fail to attend court. These situations are now covered in section 48AAA(3).
