14.01.2022 Although well behind the game in terms of formal policy development, we welcome KAP to the conversation about Statehood for North Queensland. at the end of the day we are all on the same side. What we do not agree with however, is the KAP idea that a father and son tap dance duo, reminiscent of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, should determine the location of the State border. We believe that a Commission of cross-sectoral experts, independent of Parliament, and to whom the people can make representations during the process, should define the boundary. Once that is done, then a referendum should be held. Neither, for the life of me, can I understand why the City of Rockhampton be excluded. It makes no sense to me. But as I say, at the end of the day, that is the role of the Independent Commission.
