20.01.2022 Yesterday the club got 6 flights in before the weather put a stop to things. Ben continued his good progress and will be in the single seater in no time, and Kyle () logged his 100th flight. The early finish gave us time to do some hangar housekeeping and de-rig the Jr for it's Form 2 inspection, before enjoying a well earned beverage!

19.01.2022 Club operations last Friday saw 4 good flights and a visit from Kevin who travelled up from Moranbah!

16.01.2022 The club met again last Saturday for flying ops, with Russ in charge. In the absence of the Puch (which is temporarily out of service awaiting some minor repairs), only the Junior was available to fly. Soaring conditions were poor with an overcast sky, so circuit and winch practice was the order of the day, with Ben happy to improve his landing technique with the Junior, and Ted his launch skills. Best launch was 2300 ft AGL, which was great considering the weak headwind. Joel did a very smooth job with the cable retrieve, as usual! PS - Here is a great photo of the Puch during a training camp last year.

14.01.2022 Last Tuesday, NQSC Instructor Marty launched his Pik-20E in Mareeba and spent the next 5+ hours soaring down to Charters Towers. A big congratulations to him on the achievement! We're lucky to have such great instructors in the club, and it gives us newer pilots something to aspire to. On Friday we decided to get an early start on the weekend, with 5 flights in total. Saturday saw the arrival of our newest instructor Andrew, who was accompanied by wife Lisa and sons. Ted and... Joel also joined us, it's great to see the next generation interested in gliding, and flying in general. Not to mention they were all a big help with the clubs ground operations over the weekend. Instructor Russ also graced us with his presence, and we all enjoyed dinner together after a busy day. Sunday's first launch was at 10am, with good soaring conditions continuing through until last launch just after 3pm. We also provided 2 AEF flights, so if you are interested in joining us for a flight, check the pinned post and contact us by one of the methods provided. All in all it was a great weekend with 28 flights over the 3 days! See more

09.01.2022 The club enjoyed another successful flying weekend, with pretty good soaring conditions on both days, with cloud base at 4 to 5000 ft and decent lift. Launches were respectable too despite a crosswind component, averaging around 1500 to 1600 ft AGL and the best at 1800 ft. A total of over five hours flying time, and fourteen launches were achieved over both days, despite a late start on Sunday. Eight members and visitors were present on Saturday, and six on Sunday. Joel made ...good progress in the long training flights he had on both days, with Russ and Grant instructing. Shweta continued her training on the Saturday after a bit of a break. Kevin visited us again and enjoyed his training flights on both days. Pete is striding towards being endorsed for winch launches, and handled an unexpected (to him!) simulated cable emergency in fine fashion. Ben also managed to catch some lift (at last) and had an hour's flight on Saturday. Special mention goes to Ted, who is now the club's newest winch operator, after passing muster under the beady-eyed scrutiny of our CFI! Many commiserations Ted, on joining the sad and sorry band of winch operators. We hope you don't spend too many lonely hours at the other end of the runway! But in all seriousness, it really makes it much easier to schedule club days the more qualified winch operators we have. See more

04.01.2022 We'd like to thank Mia and Dwayne from the ABC for coming out and spending the day with us. Check out the article and video below!

03.01.2022 Another great day of flying yesterday! 8 launches in total, including a one hour flight for the clubs newest junior member Joel and CFI Grant, with Ben continuing to rack up solos in the Puch! We were also joined by Mia and Dwayne from the ABC, who are doing a piece for radio and an online story. We'll share it here once it's done! In the meantime, here's a video of Joel and Grant landing on 06 after their 1 hour flight.

01.01.2022 Last weekend a small crew enjoyed 11 flights under blue skies and cooler weather, with climbs up to 6000 feet. Congratulations to club president Ben who converted to the single seater!
