06.01.2022 Townsville Police are urging residents to review their personal security following a spike in crime. Police said as of 6am this morning, six cars were either st...olen or had attempted to be stolen in a 24 hour period. Inspector Damien Crosby says the significant increase in property crime has been very disappointing. "Since Christmas Eve we have arrested 13 offenders on in excess of 56 property related charges - despite that, the offending has continued," he said. "Although we did expect an increase of offending around the Christmas period - a lot of people are now at home particularly in the COVID environment, so we would've expected a lesser increase." Police said there have been rises in burglary, unlawful entry and unlawful use of a motor vehicle/theft.
