23.01.2022 3.2.2 Resources support play-based learning. Resources, materials and equipment allow for multiple uses, are sufficient in number, and enable every child to engage in play-based learning. We had observed home corner in the cubby had been ignored, after reflecting on this this, we moved home corner to the verandah and placed the train train in the cubby..... this seemed to provoke exploration and engagement at both experiences.

22.01.2022 Broadening my understanding of the world in which I live...... One of our peers recently moved house, which has sparked an interest in our address and where we live..... over the past few weeks we have thought about who lives in our home, what our home looks like etc as we drew and painted our houses..... today we thought about where our home is.... who our neighbours are etc..... as we placed our home onto the ‘map of Inverell and Gilgai!’

18.01.2022 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child Article 15: Children have the right to meet with other children and young people ....... Children are supported to collaborate, learn from and help each other. (QA5.2.1 Collaborative leaning)

18.01.2022 Exploring, infering , predicting and hypothesising in order to develop an increased understanding of the interdependence between land, people, plants and animals...... there was a visitor in the sandpit today..... we wondered what kind of frog it was...... after consulting the frog poster we matched it to an Ornate Burrowing Frog or a Giant Ornate Burrowing iFrog....... once we measured the frog, it decided that it was in fact an Ornate Burrowing Frog...... we drew our representation of the frog and researched what the Gamilaraay word for burrowing frog..... galgalbanaa

17.01.2022 Applying a wide range of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems...... today’s focus at Bush was building shelters.... the children thought the blue one would protect us from the rain...... Den and shelter building is a form of the enclosing schema.

17.01.2022 QA1.1.2 Child centred. Each child's current knowledge, strengths, ideas, culture, abilities and interests are the foundation of the program...... we have observed some children using paint to paint themselves in the past few weeks.... were the children seeking sensory opportunities? In response to this question, this week a shared sensory experience was offered....

16.01.2022 QA4.1.1 Organisation of educators. The organisation of educators across the service supports children’s learning and development. Educators are deliberate in their positioning at Bush, we are always close by for support when asked for or needed but allow space and opportunities for children to engage in new challenges, considered risks, shared play or moments of solitude...... authentic child led play........

15.01.2022 QA1.1.3 Program learning opportunities. All aspects of the program, including routines, are organised in ways that maximise opportunities for each child’s learning..... our educational program isn’t confined to the indoor classroom and group times.... our learning spans all environments and is ongoing throughout the day..... B: ‘Do you think it will go to our nest?’ (Our visiting bird)

15.01.2022 2 days of FREE preschool in 2021! Please see attached link for IDFS Fee charging and collection policy. https://idfsnetau-my.sharepoint.com//EY5S0R_WZb1Fl-gFOL7vu

14.01.2022 Wow!!! Gum Flat Public School looks a little different to how we left it...... there will be a few changes to our arrival and departure procedures at our venues....... look out for an email and social media post in the coming days.

09.01.2022 BECOMING: Socially responsible and showing respect for the environment...... showing an increased understanding of the interdependence between land, people, plants and animals..... using play to care and feed the birds...... using the water from our water play to water the school's new tree..... recycling our art therapy artwork for sewing and threading.

G brought in a special pamphlet showing many species of butterflies from her recent visit to Coffs Harbour’s Butterly House..... this has prompted some homework for us all which we will share on our Bush Preschool page soon...... C’s Mum shared C’s question of the day this morning, ‘Why don’t cows, birds and monkeys go to school? This question provoked lots of thoughts and ideas......

08.01.2022 Start of the preschool year is almost upon us...... time to reflect on the year that was and plan for the year to come.... after reading an old copy of @countrystylemag ..... @annabellehickson wrote..... ‘Where did you put my preschool craft dinosaur made out of an egg carton?’ (In the bin, where it, arguably, should be).’....... This comment made me stop and reflect upon the art/craft experiences we provide for our preschool children..... we offer independent access to an ...art trolley, enabling children to self select materials and create independently or with others..... as is our approach with our other resources in our play based learning approach..... allowing children to turn old ideas into new ideas, look at things closely, trying new things, repeat old things over and over again (kites are popular for this!), improve old things etc..... higher thinking becomes evident..... this matches our philosophy of viewing children as successful, competent, resourceful, involved, curious and capable learners...... but..... I then think about our guided art therapy experiences and the activities that were both independent and collaborative.... is there room for both? I would be very interested to know what you as a parent think about this? (Do you even think about this!!) See more
