23.01.2022 Harmony Alliance and Monash University have partnered to undertake a national survey of migrant and refugee women. Please share widely. Share your experiences as a migrant or refugee woman living in Australia by completing the ‘Migrant and Refugee Women’ survey. This is a national survey to increase understandings of the issues of importance to women from migrant and refugee backgrounds, with a focus on safety and well-being. Findings from the survey will inform advocacy for migrant and refugee women from their own views and experiences. 22.01.2022 The () can assist tenants impacted by COVID-19. For free, confidential advice on tenancy matters, including terminations, evictions and the effect of the moratorium, please call NORTAAS on () or . The NSW Government introduced new measures to restrict when landlords can evict tenants due to rental arrears as a result of COVID-19. These restrictions were originally due to end on 15 October 2020.... They have now been extended until 26 March 2021. The measures include: a restriction on landlords evicting tenants who are financially disadvantaged by COVID-19, unless they have first attempted to negotiate a rent reduction with the tenant. An extended notice period of 90 days for certain other lease termination reasons (such as ending a lease, or ending a tenancy because of breach of agreement other than for non-payment of rent) allowing tenants financially disadvantaged by COVID-19 to terminate a tenancy agreement where a landlord will not negotiate or where it is necessary to avoid financial hardship retaining the ability of landlords to terminate a tenancy agreement in cases of undue hardship (only in certain circumstances). https://www.tenants.org.au//tenants-union-nsw-welcomes-6-m

Some are strongly in favour of criminalising, believing a further offence will help shift culture and systems which currently focus on discrete incidents of violence instead of patterns of violence and on physical violence alone rather than all forms of violence. ... The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre (NRCLC) is seeking to recruit to the role of Coordinator Northern Rivers Tenants Advice and Advocacy Service (NORTAAS) based in Lismore. The Coordinator is responsible for the overall service delivery of the NORTAAS. NORTAAS operates on the principle that affordable and secure housing is a basic human right. We are committed to providing high quality free advice, particularly for low income and disadvantaged renters. Our services include telephone advice, advocacy and representation (including at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal), community education, and providing input into policy and law reform in tenancy and housing related issues. Permanent role 28 hours per week with the capacity to work 35 hours per week as required. The position is banded from SACS 5 / SCHADS 6 to SACS 5 / SCHADS 7 with a salary range of $88,599 to $101,154 per annum pro rata (dependent upon qualifications, skills and experience), plus superannuation and leave loading. PBI Salary Packaging is also available. NRCLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. 06.01.2022 Northern Rivers WDVCAS and Lucy’s Project are partnering to build preparedness and resources to assist families with animals experiencing a DFV crisis. Northern Rivers WDVCAS is leading the way with this initiative by engaging Lucy’s Projects’ pilot program, AWARE ( Animal aWare- Animal Ready in Emergency). The program will develop tools, facilitate access to local resources and support networks as well as training for staff. It will prepare our organisation to recognise when a family needs assistance with their animal in order to be safe from DFV, who to refer to and where to go for help.
