23.01.2022 Today we have discovered an extemely serious issue if drivers are involved in an accident. In-cab technology identifed a driver had been distracted on the phone.... Police then pressured the driver to admit to, and plead guilty to; Using a mobile phone whilst driving and Dangerous Driving. Once this had occurred and the courts handed down their criminal penalty. Workcover refused to cover the drivers injuries and time off work. now a Civil action has been commenced against the driver for recovery of the damaged vehicle and freight... Vicarious Liability which would normally cover an Employee has been voided because the driver was engaged by a LABOUR HIRE firm. The Labour hire firm and the company engaging the driver, are operated by Related Parties and look and smell like they are the same organisation.. I am sure many of you are aware of similar organisations. So beware of the issues when the proverbial hits the fan!!!! We will be following this story very carefully....

23.01.2022 The USA just changed their Work/rest times for truck drivers. Australia is a little more flexible, but if the driver only sleeps for 5-6hrs, there is still 2-3hrs of wasted time.... In 2010, ATN magazine published my comments for a 5 and 2 rest option. Under NHVL rule 255 a driver law currently provides driver with a 6-2 option, but not on consecutive days.... Mandating an 8 hr continuous break may sound ideal for some, but many drivers I work with simply do not sleep for that length of time.....This hurts productivity and potentially turns a casual days drive into an Express, full throttle day... Drivers need the flexiblity to work their own customised body clock... Once a driver is awake is extremely dificult to go back to sleep.... Additionally, drivers can pull up out of town and wander in for Breakfast and a shower at their leasure. We are sick and tired of this always racing against the clock nonsense See more

17.01.2022 This week we caught up with truck driver and passionate road safety advocate Rod Hannifey to chat about the importance of sharing the road safely. Having promot...ed the ‘Truckies Top Tips’ for many years, Rod has now developed a new video series that explores how road users and caravanners can share the road safely with heavy vehicles especially in rest areas and truck stops. To find out more about the campaign or view the videos, head to www.sharetheroad.net.au

16.01.2022 This picture was posted to facebook approx. 10:45. Taken in the queue that is the Albury Covid-19 checkpoint. There where rumbles last week from a few drivers... that they where informed all trucks would be stopped (unconfirmed). We hope you drivers can explain this to your customers when you can't reach your destination due to running out of time in your log books. The apparent reason tonight is patchup roadworks job at the checkpoint with right lane closed so trucks have to join with the car traffic and also random trucks being pulled in. If you have want to register a complaint about this please do so to the The Heavy Vehicle Confidential Reporting Line (HVCRL), 1800 931 785, is the NHVR’s secure, national, confidential telephone service for participants in the heavy vehicle industry and supply chain to report operational safety issues relating to heavy vehicle transport activities. It’s operated by the NHVR. Operating hours are 7am-4.30pm (AEST) Monday to Friday. Calls are free from any landline in Australia and some mobile providers. 13.01.2022 Update on our Fair Work Commission application for changing the definition of Loading and Unloading.....The Commissioners decision is now being drafted... The F...WC has denied us a Full Bench hearing....I wanted to cross-examine our those parties who deemed us unworthy of wages for these tasks...... Now NATROAD claim the wage system for Truck Drivers is too complicated.... I call Bullshit......

13.01.2022 This just happened

12.01.2022 This is the rot we have to put up with........ It would be a shame if the coppers saw this....

12.01.2022 This explains a lot......Truck Drivers are treated like Criminals, because we are..... Being recorded as a criminal for trucking law offences, far exceeds the original intent of the NHVL model Law. Drivers are losing or missing out on high security work due to failing a police check.. why, what have I done? logbook and load restraint offence, driver...cant give you the job...

12.01.2022 The NTC claims, some stakeholders think risky driver behavior is occurring because penalties are too low.... they have got to be kidding...right?

09.01.2022 A significant effort is currently being put into Emergency Braking System. Several days ago, I was talking with former Police officer about this exact topic, when my truck reacted to an OBJECT. I drive a new Volvo FH16 with all the safety features. The EMS activated while I was driving through a granite cutting with no vehicle in sight.....It appears the rock walls triggered the sensors..... Drivers I speak with DO NOT SUPPORT this tech... What was more concerning was, I didn...t know what the warning was and actually took my attention away from the road..... Just because its new tech, doesnt mean it is better. https://www.fullyloaded.com.au//survey-shows-strong-indust

07.01.2022 The NHVR has officially approved two EWDs for truckies to use as alternatives to the written work diary, effective from December 1.

06.01.2022 The national transport commission are now discussing amendments to the chain of responsibility laws. As suspected, the transport companies have complained to t...he authoritiesAbout why they are being targeted and the driver is not part of the chain. Isnt it funny each time the focus gets put on the transport companies they attempt to amend the laws... In our submission to the NTC, we will be addressing why the driver should remain outside of the chain of responsibility. As we know most drivers only do what they’re told by management. management set the schedules and it is management who place pressure on the drivers. This was the very reason for the implementation of these laws, and once again the big players don’t like it... As I mentioned at the Senate Inquiry, it’s the truckdrivers who keep people out of jail. Therefore management should be supporting the drivers, not throwing us under the bus.

05.01.2022 On the Eve of the implementation of EWD’s and December being the month of a major campaign by the regulator on Fatigue. This is a blow for hardworking truck drivers who are forced to work for free while their local brothers and sisters are paid by the hour to do the same job. Shame on the FWC and the groups who opposed us.

03.01.2022 Given the requirement for Covid-19 testing by some jurisdictions for essential freight workers that have travelled through SA during the current outbreak, Victo...ria has announced that Heavy Vehicles can now access the public testing facilities to aid in a driver meeting their obligations helping to reduce the burden on the SA testing facilities. There is no requirement to have a Covid-19 test to enter Victoria from SA or any other State or Territory. Further updates will be provided once received from Victorian authorities. #NHVR
