25.01.2022 How many of our NSW Parliamentarians realise that if the Transport Administration Amendment (Closures of Railway Lines in Northern Rivers) Bill 2020 becomes law..., Lismore would be permanently cut off from the Sydney - Brisbane mainline railway? Lismore city has a population of nearly 30,000 and the City of Lismore LGA has a population of nearly 44,000. Who in their right mind would permanently stop trains again servicing this centre? It's time our politicians put down their lattes and started seriously considering the consequences of their actions. Why on earth would you close the section of railway between Casino and Bentley and rip it up, thereby cutting off Lismore from the mainline for a bike track? Who the hell is going to ride a bike from Casino to Bentley in the first place? It just doesn't make sense unless it's just a strategic move to render the rest of the railway between Bently and Crabbes Creek useless and come back to destroy it later when more politically tenable? Not forgotten is our complete disbelief over the Crabbes Creek to Murwillumbah part of the Bill, just as bloody stupid! Wake up NSW, you are being led down the railway destroying path by a small bunch of lunatics who have a fetish for destroying railways for bike tracks and that would forever enslave ratepayers to maintain a goat track that few would use, let alone pay for! 23.01.2022 Trains are about sustainability.

23.01.2022 Good news from Tamara and Abigail, over 10,000 signatures

21.01.2022 NRRAG held a Covid-safe protest outside Janelle Saffin's office last Friday because we're upset that she and Labor have supported the closure of sections of our railway for a rail trail. The Greens asked for an Inquiry into the legislation but Labor didn't support that. We've had no real community consultation as to whether people want a regular train service or a bike path. We deserve an Inquiry before this decision is made that will destroy important, historical infrastructure that could protect us from using dangerous congested roads.

21.01.2022 Richmond Valley Council are asking for responses to the Casino To Bentley Masterplan Draft. This is where they are ripping up the railway tracks for a bike path and yet there is no explanation of why they can't put the rail trail/bike path next to the track. Please send them a comment. Email - [email protected]

21.01.2022 WE WANT AN INQUIRY - WE DESERVE TRANSPARENCY NOTHING TO HIDE. - NO PROBLEM NO PROPER PUBLIC CONSULTATION - PROBLEM... What remaining time we have we must keep the pressure on these labor politicians some who have more pull than Janelle Saffin and are basing decisions on what Janelle and her merry bunch of RT people have fed them. Jodi McKay would like to be the next premier. 19.01.2022 The bill to close sections of the railway vote is almost certain to be tonight. There's been a suggestion to flood Sydney media phone lines. Can everyone please start calling Sydney 'talk back' stations to bring this matter to the city, tonight. Plus, ask any family who live in Sydney that used to travel to Northern Coast by rail to call in too. *2UE, 2GB, 702, Western Sydney FM* ... It would be great to be heard in Sydney. See more

17.01.2022 We hear a lot of negative spin about the number of timber bridges on the C/M line. Not all are huge structures, the majority are over smaller gullies and floodways. This ballast top concrete under bridge just outside Casino on the C/M line is typical of modern methods of construction to replace old timber structures and once done require little further maintenance. How good is this very infrastructure yet it is set to be trashed to become a bike path. How stupid is stupid.

17.01.2022 Wow this idea from QLD is amazing. Free Public transport. The state government already subsidises 80% of the cost of public transport. Seniors already travel free off-peak, and so do many people going to big sporting events. If all public transport is free, we'll save millions of dollars on ticketing, fare collection, and admin.... And if public transport is popular, we'll save hundreds of millions of dollars on road-widening. When you take these cost savings into account, free fares don't cost much more. And those costs will be covered by a developer tax - developers make huge profits. Here is the detailed plan and costings: https://greens.org.au/qld/publictransport

17.01.2022 Our political leaders are saying there has been extensive community consultation about closing the railway line for a bike path. We need to email Jo Haylen and David Harris from Labor to get them to block this in the Upper House. Their emails are - David Harris - [email protected] Jo Haylen - [email protected] Please help before it's too late.

16.01.2022 RALLY AT CASINO MAIN STATION NEXT MONDAY 5th OCTOBER. 11.00am The last chance to voice your opinion before our railway is gone for good. No proper community consultation as required by the state governments own guidelines. Bio security risk assessment carried out highly questionable... Demand and Inquiry in the NSW Upper House as requested by the Greens and all cross benches. There must be transparency , call these Labor politicians JO HAYLEN MP. 0295725900 [email protected] DAVID HARRIS MP. 0243522711 [email protected]

16.01.2022 It seems that railway tracks are already being taken up. The Tweed council has wasted no time. This railway line was built by the community for the community and it should be used to provide transport for all.

15.01.2022 Thanks to the Northern Rivers Times.

14.01.2022 We will have light rail coming down to Tweed and then no chance of rail in the rest of the Northern Rivers. It's crazy.

12.01.2022 Lismore Markets, where are the trains ?

12.01.2022 We need an Inquiry , labor and the LNP are a disgrace

11.01.2022 Hi everyone, we need to comment on this. Apparently they're asking for submissions or statements in response to the plan. I was told recently that railway buildings in the area of the Old Casino station have been burnt to the ground by vandals. I used to work in the area and it is known for a high level of poverty and crime. It could be quite an unsafe and unwise place to put a bike path and may invite illegal camping and partying.

10.01.2022 Good evening all supporters of rail for the FNC region. WE WILL BE HOLDING A SPECIAL DE-BRIEF MEETING NEXT MONDAY 19TH OCT START TIME 5.30pm LISMORE WORKERS CLUB.... Please come along for this special meeting as there will be plenty to talk about. It is with regret that we must inform you that the bill to remove protection of the rail corridor , Casino to Bentley and Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek was passed by a coalition of the LNP and Labor thereby defeating the Greens and Cross Benches support for an inquiry. Proposed amendments to limit lease periods were unfortunately also rejected. This is a big blow for democracy and common sense. What are they hiding? We know we could have had a world class tourist attraction with rail motors eventually powered by hydrogen running on this scenic line with bike trails where suitable and it would have attracted as many visitors as the forests and the beaches do and subsidised local commuter use as well. What short sighted leadership we have. Already the NRRT are lobbying for signatures and govt money to set in motion their next planned attack on the Bentley to Eltham section. This we must fight with all our might as the last thing debt laden Lismore City Council needs are the maintenance costs of non income producing cycling infrastructure. It would also be of economic benefit for Lismore to retain the railway from Lismore to Bangalow thereby connecting up with BSC's section through to Mullumbimby or Billinudgel.

07.01.2022 We have very sad news. This week, John Sheldon, who was our main admin on this page and a passionate and hardworking advocate for our railway has passed away. It's a huge shock as it was very sudden from complications following knee surgery. John was a gentle and charming gentleman, wise and articulate who has taken a big place in our hearts. He will be sorely missed. I don't know what we'll do without him. Beth Shelley.

06.01.2022 Please share as we try to inform our local community about what is happening to our railway line. When we look at a railway line how do we know if it's in good condition or not? We can tell when a road is full of potholes but when a railway line looks straight and true even if it's looking worn and rusty apparently the basic strength of the line is still clear.

06.01.2022 In a Covid safe way, members of the Northern Rivers Railway Action Group have joined together outside Janelle Saffin's office to call on Labor to vote against closing sections of our railway line. Then we walk to Kevin Hogan's office to express our disappointment with the government for pushing this bill. We have not been consulted and we want trains running again because it's a fair way for all to be able to access tranport even if they're disabled or elderly. Bike Paths are not good enough.

06.01.2022 This is a great way to use the railway tracks for a wonderful tourist idea without destroying the railway. Wonderful.

05.01.2022 MPs TELLING PORKIES IN PARLIAMENT Cr Milne is spot on here. There has been next to no formal community consultation process for the Rail Trail proposal in any p...art of this region. The small hand-picked gathering of carefully selected individuals back in 2017 can barely be called consultation either. What’s even more sinister is the lies and deliberate attempts to mislead Parliament made by Paul Toole MP, Geoff Provest MP, Chris Gulaptis MP and David Harris MP when they said that extensive community consultation has been undertaken in the area, with Paul Toole saying community consultation had started way back in 2013. Sorry, but that is just plain and simple lying. One small gathering with a handful of hand-picked property owners from one small part of the Tweed Shire in 2017 is not extensive community consultation full stop. If you try to call that extensive community consultation you are nothing but dishonest. The repeated deliberate attempts by local rail trail groups to mislead the community on this important issue and the zero effort by government to consult the community means we have no choice but to assume there are substantial ulterior political motives at play here. The deliberate lack of transparency around this project and desperate efforts to have permanent legislative changes rammed through Parliament should be extremely concerning for our community. The fact that lies are part of the reason this permanent closure may be successful is disgusting. https://www.echo.net.au//cr-milne-government-fails-requir/
