12.01.2022 Snakes are starting to wake up from their long winter rest, and our pets are once again at risk! All snake bites or suspected snake bites in Australia should be... treated as life-threatening. It is vital that you keep your pet calm and as still as possible. Try to limit any movement (including walking) as much as possible and transport them to your nearest veterinary practice immediately, even if they look well. If you are not close to a veterinary clinic and the bite was witnessed to have occurred on a limb, apply a pressure immobilisation bandage to that limb before transporting the animal to a veterinarian. The bandage should cover the entire limb, from the paw to the base of the limb. The pressure bandage should not be applied too tight as to restrict blood flow, but at a similar tightness to what would be applied for a sprained ankle. There is no role for a pressure immobilisation bandage for bites that are not on a limb. The sooner your pet is treated, the better their chances of survival. Symptoms of snake bites include: - Sudden weakness followed by collapse - Vomiting - Laboured breathing - Paralysis, starting with the hind legs - Loss of bladder and bowel control - Shaking or twitching of the muscles - Blood in the urine DO NOT try to catch or kill the snake for ID or for any other purpose DO NOT apply a tourniquet DO NOT wash the bite site DO NOT cut, suck or apply any other treatments to the bite-site Our service is free for all pet owners and has assisted over 5,000 accidentally poisoned pets so far this year. You can save a pet’s life by keeping this critical service free. Please visit animalpoisons.com.au/support to learn about ways you can support the service.

06.01.2022 LATEST UPDATE ON RAINFALL GUIDE FOR THE NEXT FORTNIGHT. A trough is already forming through parts of South Australia this morning. A weak cold front is und...ercutting that cloud band and is starting to push a weak system through parts of Victoria, causing light rain this morning. A southerly change to push-up into New South Wales today producing a few showers and thunderstorms in the south. Later today in South Australia it is likely that a broad band of showers and thunderstorms will form through the western and central inland, of the state before spreading east tonight with locally heavy falls and the potential for some storms to become severe.. Most of the heavy falls will bypass Adelaide to the north. That trough causing the shower and thunderstorm activity will likely move into parts of New South Wales and Queensland overnight and into Friday but will become slow moving. The main supporting dynamics will start to shift south so the thunderstorm activity will begin to pull up stumps somewhere along the border of Queensland and New South Wales on Friday. That will mean rainfall totals will be enhanced in some parts of this region during the next 36 hours. Due to the system peaking along the western border of Queensland and New South Wales during Friday afternoon, the system will likely been weaken from that point, so the rainfall coverage will be less extensive during Saturday and Sunday through the Eastern states. However there was still will be isolated moderate to heavy falls with any thunderstorms that develop in the humid and warm atmosphere. During Monday a cold front is likely to sweep through the south eastern states and this will act as a trigger for another broad area of shower and thunderstorm activity through parts of Victoria, New South Wales and southern Queensland. The best of the rainfall is likely to be in the eastern 2/3 of the states. Also the chance that severe thunderstorm activity will form along this boundary. Further ahead another trough and cold front is likely to produce showers and thunderstorms later next week. That system is fast moving so the rainfall totals won’t be as extensive at this stage as this weekends event. Later in the month and into early October, multiple weather agencies are hinting at widespread rain moving from the central interior down through parts of South Australia and then into the eastern states once again, with a chance that further follow-up rain is quite likely, as the tropics start to wake up. I have attached the GFS rainfall accumulation chart for the next 16 days across Australia. You can see the multiple rain events in the Outlook period and the timing, intensity, and placement will chop and change as each event initialises in real time.

01.01.2022 Governor of NSW Lt-Gen Sir John Northcott, visited Narrabri on 3 & 4th of Nov 1950. It was a big deal in those days. The governor and his daughter Elizabeth No...rthcott arrived by Rail Car at Narrabri Railway Station. They had a very busy day visiting the war memorial at the then town hall, then onto Collins Park where they inspected the school children, scouts (photo 1 &2), others and meeting representatives of many organisations in the grand stand (photo 3), where Elizabeth Northcott was presented with a bouquet of flowers by ?
