18.01.2022 FEMALE FOOTBALL FRIDAY NSFA concluded its Female Football Week festivities with an event at North Turramurra Recreation Area (NTRA) on Friday May 14th, featuring over 300 female players from across the region. On the main field Northern Tigers Women’s NPL players ran free skills sessions for players aged from 6 to 18, including goalkeeper specific sessions.... Following their skills sessions, participants were able to meet players from the 2021 Women’s First Grade squad and received free posters they could get signed by the team. By having all female coaches and our Women’s First Grade players present for poster signings we hopefully provided the girls with some role models they can look up to in terms of their future within football, said Eilidh Mackay, NSFA’s Head of Female Football. We want to show that there are pathways for females to get involved in coaching and playing at a higher level in their local area. Players from the NSFA Women’s Premier League (sponsored by Harvey Norman) then joined a Northern Tigers Under 17s training session give them a taste of the representative training environment under the instruction of Mackay, who holds an FFA/AFC B Licence and has been coaching at the club for a number of years. On the other fields at NTRA, the Northern Tigers Girls SAP played exhibition matches against local NSFA club teams before finishing the night with their Football NSW competition matches against local rivals Northbridge FC. In addition to being the association’s female football partner, Harvey Norman has further supported Female Football Week by providing prizes for a Mother’s Day photo competition and gift vouchers and certificates of recognition for members of NSFA Female Football Working Group. Harvey Norman has been a fantastic supporter of our work in growing female football within the region this year we’ve seen over 400 extra players join our clubs this year, ranging from our Girls Under 6s to Women’s Over 35s, said NSFA CEO Edward Ferguson. We have a couple more exciting events this year that Harvey Norman will be supporting us with, in particular our NSFA Skellern Cup, which is for primary school girls in years 3 to 6. After a break last year to due COVID we’re excited to get the Skellern Cup back on this year, with over 700 players involved in the 2019 tournament. For more information on the NSFA Skellern Cup, email [email protected].
