18.01.2022 GOING HI-TECH | Hornsby Hospital has become the first public hospital in NSW to use robotics in its pharmacy. Yesterday, Health Minister Brad Hazzard and Member for Hornsby Matt Kean toured the pharmacy and the newly opened 12-bed intensive care unit (ICU), which have been built as part of the NSW Government’s $265 million redevelopment. The pharmacy department now boasts a robotic pharmaceutical dispensing system which automatically stocktakes, rotates stock, selects and dis...penses medicine straight to the pharmacist who can send it to the patient’s bedside within minutes. The larger ICU opened less than a month ago and is a modern, purpose-built department that includes single patient rooms with large observation windows, and the ability for patients’ beds to be turned to face the outdoors. The $265 million Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Stage 2 redevelopment will provide a superior experience for patients, carers, staff and visitors, with a larger emergency department and an intensive care unit about three times the size of the previous one, Mr Hazzard said. The new, state-of-the-art pharmacy is also more than double in size and, thanks to its advanced robotics, can select and dispense medications and conduct stocktakes faster, reducing errors and wastage and allowing pharmacists to spend more time with patients. The redevelopment will deliver a new Clinical Services Building, due for completion next year, and a refurbished and expanded emergency department. See more

12.01.2022 Christmas time can be swamped by consumerism, stress and family troubles; and often we feel pressure to be cheerful and happy, when in fact the stress of having everything 'ready' or ‘perfect’ makes us feel exhausted and overwhelmed. So how do we find peace and joy this Christmas? Especially during these COVID times. Perhaps instead of focusing too much on the ‘things’ (like food and presents) try focusing more on gratitude, kindness and connection. True joy and happiness can be found in these moments. #Christmas #CarersTip #Kindness #Compassion #HolidayToDoList #Peace #Joy #Happiness

10.01.2022 This weekend is going to be a hot one, particularly for this time of the year. Heat waves can cause illness, hospitalisations and sometimes death. It is important that everybody is aware of the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness in order to recognise and treat affected people promptly. The best way to prevent heat-related illness is to drink plenty of water and to stay as cool as possible.... Remember the four key messages when trying to stay healthy in the heat: 1. Drink plenty of water 2. Keep cool 3. Take care of others 4. Have a plan Resource material for heat waves is located on the NSW Health website: https://bit.ly/2AzCSSH And you can find multilingual resources on How to beat the heat, Heat-related Illnesses including heat stroke and How to keep someone healthy during hot weather: at https://bit.ly/2Cqa0fo.
