23.01.2022 Our Chief Operating Officer Kellie Cooper, in her role as NSW Wall to Wall Committee member, had the privilege of riding behind the VIP motorcyclists transporting the state batons from Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales to Canberra on Saturday. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, satellite rides took place across most jurisdictions, with the batons being passed over at border checkpoints. The batons made the last leg of their journey from the NSW Police Wall of Rem...embrance in The Domain to the National Wall of Remembrance in Canberra. The Ride honours the work of police officers across the nation, and the service and sacrifices made in protecting our community. It also promotes road safety, and raises significant funding each year for all Police Legacies to assist in supporting legatee families. Board Director AC Karen Webb farewelled the small group from the Domain, and our Chair Det Supt Gary Merryweather attended the National Ceremony in Canberra. At the National Wall of Remembrance, Kellie had the honour of laying the wreath on behalf of all state Police Legacies.

22.01.2022 We are delighted to introduce you to our two new Board Members: Assistant Commissioner Scott Whyte APM, and Sergeant Craig Partridge. With many years' combined policing experience and hardworking dedication, we are sure our new Board Members will have much to contribute to our charity! Sgt Craig Partridge joined the NSW Police Force in 1997. Since that time, he has worked in metropolitan Sydney in General Duties and Criminal Investigations, at Sydney City, Rose Bay, and Camps...ie, where he is currently a Sergeant. He has been a Branch Official with PANSW since 2005, an Executive Member of PANSW twice, and is currently Treasurer. He is Chair of the Women’s and Diversity Committee, the Finance and Governance Committee and the Awards Committee. Craig has a keen sense of diversity and social issues, and an interest in politics and social justice. He is focussed on working hard to achieve Police Legacy’s mission of looking after the entire Police Family. Sgt Partridge was elected to the position of Vice Chair after the recent Annual General Meeting. AC Scott Whyte APM joined the NSW Police Force in 1990, and was confirmed as a Constable at Bankstown Local Area Command, working investigative duties until being seconded to the PANSW. Transferring back to criminal investigation in 2001, he was promoted to Det Sgt in 2004. In 2007 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector, and in 2011 became Operations Co-ordinator, Gangs Squad, State Crime Command. In 2017 he was transferred to the position of Commander, Bankstown Local Area Command. In 2018, he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the NSW Police Commissioner, and in Dec 2019 was promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner.

22.01.2022 People, the Remembrance Bike Ride is well and truly upon us! Our Chair Det Supt Gary Merryweather was on Alive FM yesterday spreading the good word (click the link to listen: https://bit.ly/RBRalivefm) As we speak, one of our most dedicated riders, Emma Capell, is over halfway through her incredible 300km Zwift challenge (riding halfway around the world without leaving her lounge room!) And tomorrow, our Ride Ambassador Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon will join forces with Po...lice Bank Deputy Chair Raff Del Vecchio as the pair push themselves way past their PBs and attempt to ride 300kms around Sydney in a single day. We'll be cheering them on tomorrow, so watch this space for #remembrancebikeride updates. And of course on Sunday there will be rides happening all over the state! Follow along on social media, cheer from the side lines, and please, help us spread the word far and wide! This is an important fundraising event for the Police Family.

22.01.2022 Every day our Police Officers challenge themselves, working to keep our community safe. And on Sunday 15 November 2020 you could set your own challenge and give back to the people who give you so much. We are thrilled to announce the relaunch of the Remembrance Bicycle Ride 2020! After a lot of behind-the-scenes work from the committee, we have finalised a COVID-safe plan that takes in the entire State. Challenge yourself to ride that little bit further or little bit faster, ...and challenge yourself to raise money to support our entire Police Family. Anybody can be involved - whatever your age, whatever your level, whatever your location! It's all happening on Sunday 15 November 2020, when socially-distanced riders all around the State will be united in support of NSW Police Legacy. Click through for all the details and to get involved in this incredible event! https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au//2020-remembrance-bi

22.01.2022 When the National Police Memorial in Canberra was commemorated on Police Remembrance Day 29 September 2006, duplicates were made of the touchstones that were placed there. NSW Police Legacy has had these entrusted into our care, and we are now beginning the process of returning them to their families. In the past weeks we have returned touchstones to Muriel Roy, champion bear maker of Police Wives and Friends, and John Pirie, organiser of the Bathurst/Orange Local Area Lunch, who was just 4 years old when his father was killed on duty. Today we reunited touchstones with Sarah Bates, Kerry McGrath, and Tracy Holt, all of whom were incredibly moved to receive them. These mementos serve as small reminders of a very simple fact: we will never forget.

20.01.2022 Have we mentioned lately that our supporters are awesome? They’re awesome. And Chantel Norris is living, cycling proof of that. While not a police officer herself, she has plenty of friends who are, and for the past five years she and the girls (a group of about ten keen cyclists, including several police officers) have taken part in the Remembrance Bike Ride, giving it their all to support our Police Family. Her group had already started selling chocolate in support of the... ride earlier in the year, before it had to be postponed due to COVID-19, and they are now looking into selling tickets to spin classes at the gym where Chantel works as an additional fundraiser. Chantel has enjoyed the ride ever since the first time she took part, loving the spirit of support and encouragement that it brings. And it was through taking part in the ride that she really came to appreciate the service and the sacrifice that police officers make every day, all in the carrying out of their duties. Chantel, we thank you for your support! And if you would like to support Chantel and her team, you can do so here: https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au/my-fundraising//dmgs- And don’t forget, if you’re inspired by Chantel’s story and would like to take part in the ride, this event is open to people of all ages and abilities! Get on your bike!

20.01.2022 Want to write your name in history? We're thrilled today to launch the Queanbeyan Paver Project, an initiative that will celebrate the upgrade of the Queanbeyan Police Station with a NSW Police Legacy walk! Earlier this year, Taree became the first station to include a Police Legacy Walk, and now former/serving police officers and community members of the Monaro Police District are invited to buy a paver to show their support of their local police. All proceeds come directly to NSW Police Legacy, so your support is doubled! At this stage, paver purchase is open only to former/serving police, but in coming weeks sales will open to community support. Click through for all the details: https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au//queanbeyan-paver-pr

20.01.2022 It's not every birthday you get a visit from The Chair and a card from The Queen, but Thelma Tuckey got exactly that in Dubbo today, on the occasion of her 100th Birthday! And the icing on the cake was attendance by Inspector Natalie Antaw, officer in charge of Dubbo Police. Thelma has been a resident in Dubbo since her husband, the late Sgt George Tuckey, was stationed there. Thelma was thrilled by the occasion, and we have to say, we're thrilled to have you with us Thelma! Happy Birthday!

08.01.2022 Can't think of a better way to kick off the weekend than by showing the support our Police Legatees have from all around the state. Legends!

08.01.2022 We regret to inform you that once again we have sad news. Shannon Hollibone, member of the NSW Police Force since 2009, has died following a long battle with cancer. Shannon was stationed in Connabarabran Police Station as Lock Up Keeper, and for the last six years has been travelling to Sydney with his wife for radiation and chemotherapy treatments. On 28 July this year he was awarded the Commissioner's Commendation for Outstanding Service. On 30 July he died, leaving behind... his wife Nikki, and fourteen-year-old daughter Mackenzie. Shannon's colleague Snr Cst Rhys Fairman has set up an appeal to help the family in this very difficult time. All funds raised will be split equally between Nikki and Mackenzie (with Mackenzie's funds going into a trust fund). Any support you can provide is very much appreciated by the family. Click here to assist: https://portal.policelegacynsw.org.au//the-shannon-hollibo

08.01.2022 On this day, every other year, NSW Police Legacy would have accompanied Police Legatees to take part in the ceremony at the Wall of Remembrance. The marching ranks, the gathering crowds, the lone piper’s call to bring everyone into focus. Solemn words, bowed heads, wreaths laid lovingly in front of the wall. Names read slowly, one by one, each carrying the memories and the sorrows of those left behind. This year is different, in more ways than we could have thought possible. ...But one thing stays the same: remembrance. We don’t need big ceremonies to remember, and to hold dear the names of our fallen. We don’t need a thousand people standing in silence when there is always and forever a special silence in our hearts. We remember. We will never forget. This morning, at a small private ceremony attended only by select officials and the family of Cst Vidal, the names and the memories of all those on the Wall of Remembrance were honoured. The one name added to the Wall this year: Constable Aaron David Vidal Due to COVID restrictions there was no service held this year at the NSW Police Force Service Memorial, but names were added, and memories honoured: Detective Sergeant Michael Allen Sergeant Paul Thomas Blood, AM Sergeant Wesley Bush Senior Constable Mark Robert Butcher Constable Amie Louise Clark Martin Paul Collis Senior Constable ShannonMark Hollibone Detective Senior Constable Damien Knowles Sergeant RyanAnthony Lynch Detective Senior Constable Raymond Ferjallah Malkoun Sergeant Richard Laurence Martin Brian Anthony Morris Senior Constable Stephen Gordon Nixon Sergeant Iftikhar Ahmed Qureshi Detective Senior Constable Margaret Majella Saunders Lisa Joy Snelgrove We look forward to coming together next year to honour the service and sacrifices made in protecting our community. There will be a small invitation-only ceremony at the National Police Wall of Remembrance in Canberra this afternoon. You can watch the event live from 4pm on this link: https://vimeo.com/event/299960

07.01.2022 Happy Wednesday everybody, and the happiest of happy birthdays to the following over-80s Police Legatees who have their big day this week! Please join us in celebrating: Beverley Worsley Colleen Child Gloria Clifton... Jocelyn Thompson Florence Clarke Margaret Gilmour See more

04.01.2022 We are sorry to have to pass on the news that due to COVID-19 restrictions there will not be a public service at the Wall of Remembrance this year for Police Remembrance Day. We know how much this means to so many of you, and we are truly sorry that you will not be able to stand among friends, family, and colleagues, to honour the memory of those that have passed. But the day will remain sacred to all of us, no matter where we are. We will never forget.

03.01.2022 You know how we feel about our over-80s Police Legatees, don't you? We want to celebrate each and every one. We want to visit them all with the biggest bunches of flowers we can find! Times being what they are, of course, we're being mindful and cautious and Covid Safe. 03.01.2022 Since 1987 we've been providing emotional and financial support for our Police Legatees, but something else we've been providing for just as long is memories! And we're hoping that the young Police Legatees pictured here have many happy ones from this 2005 Adventure Camp. We suspect they might

03.01.2022 We have another 100th birthday to announce! This time however it's not a Police Legatee but a Police Association! The Police Association of NSW was officially formed on this day 100 years ago, after a large rally of Police Officers at the Police Depot in Redfern in July of that year, wanting representation from an industrial organisation. The Police Association of NSW have served their members well and faithfully ever since and we here at NSW Police Legacy have a special reas...on to thank them, because it was partly through their actions that we came to be, back in 1987, and it is through a special arrangement with them that we come to be housed in such a beautiful office space. Unfortunately the many celebrations scheduled for their centenary year have had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, but they would surely appreciate your birthday wishes! Pictured here, outside the original Police Depot in Redfern: Phillip Tunchon, former President (1994-1998) Tony King, current President (2019-) Thomas Pauling, original President (1920-1923) Bertram Fortescue, original Secretary (1920-31) Peter Remfrey, former Secretary (1997-2018) Patrick Gooley, current Secretary (2018-)

02.01.2022 It was fourteen years ago today** that we took a cruise around the bay. Our Legatees are always in style, and they're guaranteed to raise a smile! ... For our Tuesday Throwback, please enjoy these pics from our 2006 Harbour Cruise. Seems like only yesterday! (**Okay, not exactly) See more

02.01.2022 Regretfully, we must inform you that we have another former NSW Police Officer in trouble. Darrin Voss ("Vossy" to his mates, of which there are many) has been diagnosed with liver cancer, and is suffering from many complications associated with disease, including the fact that the cancer has now spread to his stomach. This fundraiser has been established to help him and his family in this incredibly difficult time. Darrin served from 1994-2003 in the NSWPF, at Campsie, Burwood, and Newtown Police Area Commands. If you are able to spare a few dollars, or help us spread the word, please do so. All the details here: mycause.com.au/page/231452/support-darrin-voss

01.01.2022 On a dark and stormy day we thought you might need a little cheering up. How about a Monday Memory from 2004, when the sun was shining a little brighter, and the Boys in Blue were joined by the Man in Red? Now that's what we call Christmas in July!

01.01.2022 We've been posting the odd #MondayMemory, and today we're throwing back just to 2019, because on this day last year one of the most exciting new events to support NSW Police Legacy was kicking off. We're talking of course about Beat The Blue, the event that started with a few passionate and dedicated car enthusiasts and grew into an incredible night where literally thousands of people flocked to Sydney Motorsports Park to witness the valiant attempts of the motoring public to... take on the might of the Highway Patrol on a controlled course. (Spoiler: HWP won hands down!) Sadly this year due to COVID-19 restrictions the event has had to be cancelled, but Steven Planinic, the quiet driving force behind it all, and his dedicated team of organisers, have pledged to make next year's event even more spectactular. We're sorry the event can't go ahead, but we remain thrilled and delighted at the support we receive from Beat The Blue, and we can't wait for next year's event! See more
