25.01.2022 #BePrepared With thunderstorm activity over NSW expected to develop over the east of the state from today, there is the possibility of localised and flash flooding in some areas across NSW Friday and Saturday. Whilst no warnings have been issued at this stage, thunderstorm warnings are likely to be issued throughout this period, particularly on Friday and Saturday. Depending on the volume of rain received in catchments, flood warnings could also be issued should catchments... receive sufficient rainfall. If you come across floodwaters, please turn around, crossing flooded roads or causeways is not worth the risk. If it's flooded - forget it! Over the next few days, be sure to visit the Bureau of Meteorology for the latest weather warnings affecting your location. http://bit.ly/2wuOXWt #GetReady See more

22.01.2022 SES VOLUNTEERS HONOUR BOURKE LEGEND In 1962, Gundabooka man Percy Hobson was the first Indigenous athlete to win a medal at the Commonwealth games. At only 20 years old, and against all odds, this local high jumper broke the record when he leapt over a 6’11 high bar, in Perth’s Perry Lakes stadium. ... A feat which forever establishing Percy as one of Australia’s most iconic sportsmen. To pay tribute, his hometown of Bourke, NSW has celebrated Percy’s achievement by dedicating the Bourke Water Tower as a canvas for a large mural of Percy; a recreation of the iconic photo of Hobson bounding into the air; the moment he earned his first gold medal. Last week, NSW SES volunteers in Bourke joined community members to finish the mural with hand-prints at the base of the mural. Our volunteers came from NSW SES Bungendore, NSW SES - Cessnock City Unit, NSW SES Dungog Unit, NSW SES - Gosford Unit, NSW SES - Hunters Hill Unit, NSW SES Maitland Unit, NSW SES - Port Stephens Unit and NSW SES Sutherland Shire to assist the local community and the local unit during the current flooding event. 20.01.2022 Rainfall brings changes to driving conditions Western New South Wales has received significant rainfall in the past 24 hours, with good falls recorded across the region, including more than 50mm in Wanaaring. While the rain has been welcomed by pastoralists, it has resulted in the closing of a large number of roads across the region.... Deputy Zone Commander for the Far West Region, Marc Coulter, has reminded drivers to monitor the Live Traffic NSW and Local Council websites for reports on which roads are currently closed to traffic across the Incorporated Region. We remind everyone, whether you are a local or just passing through, never walk, ride, drive or play in flood waters, he said. Local SES Units have also been busy during this current rain event. Mr Coulter noted Broken Hill Unit has responded to 10 requests for assistance from community members for the tarping of roofs in the past 24 hours. Local NSW SES units are on stand-by and are ready to respond to community requests for assistance if needed, he added. The rain is expected to ease into the weekend, but we urge drivers, especially those travelling through Western NSW, to take care while on the roads, drive to the conditions, and monitor which roads are currently open or closed. In the event community members require assistance from the NSW SES, please call 132 500. In all life-threatening emergencies, please dial 000 immediately. Image source: Live Traffic NSW website
