25.01.2022 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - see details below

21.01.2022 Issued Sunday 20/12/2020 severe weather warning Scone, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Denman, Maitland and Dungog. NSW SES WARNS COMMUNITIES IN STATE’S NORTH OF SEVERE WEATHER... NSW State Emergency Service is warning communities more heavy rain is on the cards bringing the potential for flash and riverine flooding. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting further moderate to heavy rain fromlate Sunday through to Monday for communities in the Hunter and the North West Slopes. State Duty Commander, Assistant Commissioner Sean Kearns, said it is incredibly important communities living in these regions are vigilant for therisks the heavy rain may bring. This is particularly the case for communities for the Scone, Singleton, Muswellbrook, Denman, Maitland and Dungog communities in the Hunter area and Tamworth, Narrabri, Coonamble and Coonabarabran in the north of the state, Mr Kearns said.As heavy rain is very likely, flash and riverine flooding is a risk we need our communities to be aware of. In the event you come across floodwater, please do not attempt to drive, walk or ride through it, Mr Kearns saidThe same goes for letting children play in floodwater. It is dangerous. Floodwater can contain contaminants such as sewage, chemicals and even dead animals." By entering floodwaters, whether it be in your car or simply walking through it,you are putting your safety and health at risk, he said. Anyone needing emergency support in storms or floods call NSW SES on 132 500. If the situation is life-threatening, call Triple Zero (000) immediately. 17.01.2022 Communities in the Hunter and Inner North of the State are asked to be aware and prepared. A slow-moving low-pressure trough is expected to linger over north-e...ast NSW during Monday afternoon and evening. Heavy rainfall is likely with this slow-moving weather system which may lead to FLASH FLOODING and RIVERINE FLOODING. Isolated thunderstorms are possible across the warning area and very heavy rainfall may result in flash flooding. NSW SES reminds people to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater as this is the main cause of death during floods. 14.01.2022 HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO TELL YOU? Seriously, despite repeated warnings ahead of, and during this flood event, we are getting reports of numerous sighti...ngs of "Bazza, Karen and the kids" driving through floodwater along the Carnarvon Highway - which is closed between Moree and Mungindi. The road is closed - you are breaking the law No matter how good you think your 4WD with the snorkel and the lift kit is, we don't want to have to come and rescue you when the pavement gives way or the water gets too deep. Don't drive through floodwater If this statewide flooding event has taught us nothing else - it has taught us that: Roads get badly damaged in floodwater Your 4WD will float in a metre of water You are not as good a driver as you think you are (no-one is) We would rather rest our flood rescue teams ahead of the on-coming flooding and not rescue people making the same old mistakes of driving in floodwater Your insurance won't cover your "sweet ride" if you have decided to deliberately drive across a flooded road and get stuck And finally, we'd like to know that every driver who came out our way this Easter - got home safely. So, if you decide to ignore this simple warning while driving around Western NSW this Easter weekend, and need the assistance of the NSW SES, call 132 500. 05.01.2022 SCHOOLS OUT The #holidays are a joyful time of year and we want everyone to be safe. Remind the little ones and the big ones about the dangers around play...ing outside during flood and storms, and to steer clear of flash flooding, particularly around storm drains, fast-moving rivers and creeks. #Floodwater is filled with debris, bacteria and much more that could cause illness and injury. Roads and surfaces could wash away, and may not be seen from the surface. Know your risk http://bit.ly/2kNv2zC If you knew what was in it, you wouldn’t go in it! Stay safe. #stormdrains #communitynotice #summersafety
