25.01.2022 On Monday night training we were joined by Casino unit to do a landsearch scenario at the Lismore Turf Club. We were tasked with finding a missing person. The missing person was found with a suspected broken leg and had to be stretchered out. It was then revealed that there was a second missing person. Both persons were found and recovered. Great job guys!! Scenario's such as this give our members a chance to challenge themselves and use skills in a situation as real as ...we can possibly make it. It highlights our strengths and weaknesses and where we might need to do some more training. It gives our new members a chance to ask questions and clarify in a safe setting. Scenarios take a lot of planning and organising. We would like to say Thank you and express our appreciation to those members who put in the extra hours so we could do this. Also a big Thank You to the Lismore Turf Club for allowing us to use their premises for our training.

24.01.2022 Monday night training. Last night some of our members sat in the warm and practiced using our field app on the iPads. Others braved the cold and practiced carrying a casualty over different types of terrain. Passing the stokes over the boat, down the stairs and then carrying it up an incline back to the shed.

18.01.2022 Blocked Gutters are one of the most common call outs for SES during storms and severe weather. A little bit of prep when the sun comes out will save your intern...al walls from being damaged from blocked gutters overflowing and backing up into the roof cavity. Water can even come down through the light fittings. While its raining now, we ask that you check your gutters next time it is safe to do so.

13.01.2022 Storms and Heavy Rain Forecast for Northern Rivers! The Northern Rivers received widespread heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours with some areas in the Tweed Shire receiving over 90mm of rain in a few hours. NSW SES received only 8 calls for assistance with leaky roofs and requests for sandbags. Heavy localised falls delivered rain in the following areas: Brays Creek - 97mm, Cudgera... Creek 90mm, Tyalgum - 87mm, Green Pigeon 60mm, Uki 64 mm, Casino 57mm Eden Creek at Doubtful 62mm. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting thunderstorms across the Northern Rivers again today with the possibility of heavy localised rainfall and flash flooding. With the possibility of further severe storms and heavy rain, NSW SES Northern Rivers Commander Mark Elm urges residents to prepare their homes now while the sun is shining. Bring in or secure any outdoor items in the yard or on the balcony, check your gutters are clear and your roof is in good condition, trim any overhanging branches and take care when travelling in severe weather conditions. Superintendent Elm added, Rainfall over the last few weeks in the Northern Rivers has contributed to a number of soaked catchments. This means water runoff and flash flooding is more likely in these areas. NSW SES urges residents and visitors to take care when driving in wet weather on the local roads, especially if you are driving in upper catchment areas where low lying causeways overflow and are dangerous to cross when flooded. NSW SES advise to never drive, ride or walk through floodwater as this is the main cause of death during floods. It’s important that drivers slow down on the roads and drive to the conditions. Superintendent Elm said. If you come across a flooded road please make the safe decision. Turn around, it’s just not worth the risk! Stay alert this week, listen to any updates and advice and monitor the Bureau of Meteorology website on www.bom.gov.au
