24.01.2022 If you would like to purchase the 2021 edition of NFPA 921 you can order through FPAA. Janet Fitzspatrick can assist you, her email is [email protected] If you give her your credit card details she will get it shipped from the US the next day. Delivery though will take 2-3 weeks. The cost is $141 AUD. Delivery will differ. Maybe if you know others that are ordering you can combine the shipping.

22.01.2022 The Chair of the Technical Committee for NFPA921 has said that there will be no pdf created for the 2021 edition. He is still trying to find out more information about this decision but he is disappointed that NFPA are not creating any more pdf versions for all of their products.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to NSWAFI committee member Mark Pellegrino on obtaining the IAAI Certified Fire Investigator. He becomes the 8th current IAAI-CFI in Australia. This is not an easy qualification to achieve. Candidates must complete an extensive application requiring documentation, earn sufficient points for their achievements in education, training, and experience, and pass a comprehensive exam. More information on the program can be found here:... https://www.firearson.com//Certified-Fire-Inv/Default.aspx

16.01.2022 This is a great little case study from the US, amazing find and photography.... enjoy Wanted to share some interesting photos from an attic fire investigation just completed. The HO discovered the fire around a forced-air HVAC unit. The electrical engineer examined the HVAC unit and excluded it as a contributing factor. Removal of burned flex-duct and other debris at the rear of the unit revealed a live animal trap buried underneath with a badly burned animal carcass inside.... Examination of a burned section of Romex cable that passed within about two inches of one end of the trap found visible mechanical damage on the neutral conductor and corresponding arc sites on the hot leg and ground. Thank you Michael Custer. Closer examination of the carcass (possibly a Norway rat) found it had sustained significant trauma to the mandible, chest and rear abdominal area. The rat got trapped and began chewing on the Romex insulation, which it was (1) able to reach and (2) able to bite on by getting its muzzle through the wire trap. The rat did a fair amount of chewing before getting electrocuted and, we believe, ignited from the electrical energy. Credit to Michael Custer, P.E., of Kilgore Engineering in Dallas, TX for the great microscopic photos showing teeth marks on the copper neutral wire and remaining insulation. One photo shows what I believe to be hair adhering to some of the melted insulation--probably the last bite. See more
