23.01.2022 What is a Blue Award? The NSWCHSSA Blue Award is a very special award that is only presented to students who have excelled on the sporting field, have displayed outstanding sportsmanship and have made great contributions to their school and sporting communities. A NSWCHSSA Blues Committee convenes annually to consider nominations submitted by team managers, coaches and conveners. The NSWCHSSA Blues Award Ceremony is held in Term 4 each year.... Origin: In 1836 Cambridge and Oxford Universities competed in a boat race, rowed from Westminster Bridge to Putney Bridge UK. In this race a Cambridge oarsmen tied a light blue ribbon to the bows of the Cambridge boat (the colours of his school, Eton College). The colour dark blue was then ascribed to the Oxford boat. These colours have remained over the years and student-athletes represent Cambridge in light blue and Oxford in dark blue. The first teams in both universities are generally know as 'the blues' in most competitive sports. The NSWCHSSA adopted the Blue to recognise the outstanding achievements of its representatives, with the first recorded Blue Award being presented in 1957. During the 1960s and 1970s the NSWCHSSA presented Blues to outstanding boys, and NSW Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association presented Blues to outstanding girls. In 1981, the two associations amalgamated to form the current association. 08.01.2022 What is the representative school sport pathway? The NSW Department of Education is committed to providing opportunities for students to participate in school sporting programs at all levels of participation and values the importance of physical activity in enhancing educational outcomes. The representative school sport pathway has been in existence for almost 130 years and forms an integral part of a large state based program within the NSW Department of Educations High P...otential and Gifted Policy. The pathway which is in place in NSW is recognised around the world as a leader in delivering school sport programs. The school sport representative pathway relies on the progression of students through stages beginning at a school/community level zone association state and national level. This is a complex process commencing at the start of each year and takes many months to coordinate as students participate and progress through each level. The effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic have been felt throughout the education community, and many difficult choices have been made that have had significant impacts on schools and students. Schools have not had the opportunity to organise their stage of the trials process. Consequently, the representative pathway at the Association and State levels cannot be conducted in terms three (3) and four (4) of the school year. It is not possible for schools to rearrange activities at this stage of the year given limitations with venue availability and rescheduling the many educational and sporting events on a school calendar. Additionally, current NSW Government guidelines do not allow for large scale events to be held where crowds will be in attendance. The national body, School Sport Australia, recognised this issue and officially cancelled all national events for 2020 at the conclusion of term one (1). We understand your disappointment and concerns in not being able to participate in these programs during COVID-19 restrictions in 2020. It is anticipated that, where possible, participation based events will be scheduled and students and schools will have an opportunity to enter into sporting activities within their local school community.

08.01.2022 Originally known as Armistice Day, Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November and marks the signing of the peace agreement between Germany and the Allies that ended the Great War of 1914-1918. Now Remembrance Day is a day to remember and honour all Australians who have served. Trooper Albert Cotter (18831917) Albert Cotter commenced his cricketing career at Forest Lodge Public School and by 18 years of age was playing for New South Wales. He was selected to bowl for Australi...a at only 20 years of age. His international career lasted 9 years. Tibby played in 21 Tests, taking 89 wickets for an average of 28.64 runs. In April 1915, Albert Cotter joined the AIF, aged 31. The AIF recruiting campaign used his enlistment as publicity. Tibby was accepted into the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment even though he had limited horse riding ability, and he took a late part in the Gallipoli campaign. He was later transferred to the 12th Light Horse. While there he was commended for his fine work under heavy fire during the second battle of Gaza. The official history stated: he behaved in action as a man without fear. On 31 October 1917 the 4th Light Horse Brigade, of which the 12th Regiment was part, captured Beersheba by a brilliant cavalry-style charge. At the end of the charge, the troops dismounted to engage the enemy. Albert Cotter was shot and killed at close range. See more
