14.01.2022 Around Coolah, NSW. There are a few towns which claim they are the Black Stump in the Aussie saying Beyond the Black Stump. The town of Coolah seems to have a... good argument that their town is that place. By the early 1800s, Governor Darling became so concerned at the spread of settlement that on 14th October 1829, he made a proclamation of the Limits of Settlement, which meant that no-one was to go beyond the ‘Black Stump Run’, which was the name of a property at Coolah, and considered beyond the reach of civilised comforts and facilities. Of course, NSW continued to expand further west and Coolah became a coach stop at the meeting of two main routes. An inn was built, and a village grew with shops churches and schools established, and by the time the railway arrived in 1920, Coolah had become a service town for the rich agricultural district of the surrounding area. Although the trains stopped decades ago, and the population has decreased, Coolah remains an active, friendly country town with enough interesting buildings and sights to make a detour through there worthwhile. 12.01.2022 On display in the Pandora Gallery for February and March is art by Emily Simson a painter and printmaker who now lives in Armidale. Included in this exhibition are landscape and still life paintings, some mixed media drawings and unique prints. Since the last time exhibiting at the Pandora Gallery, Emily’s work has been shown in Tamworth Armidale and Gunnedah along with collaborations with other artists and organisations. Participating in The Overwintering Project to promote ...awareness of the habitats of migratory birds, her work was shown in Mandurah WA, Coffs Harbour and Mornington Peninsula Victoria with other Printmakers. Emily is a member of the Black Gully Printmakers in Armidale, who share printmaking skills and exhibit as a group in various venues. This includes an exhibition held at NERAM (New England Regional Art Museum) a group print show in response to the written word of Judith Wright. Their current collaboration is with the Armidale Folk Museum, members have created artist prints based around historical objects held in the museum. Other than these collaborations Emily has continued making art based on nature and landscape. Using both painting and printmaking techniques to explore colours, patterns and contrasts the landscape offers. The exhibition at Pandora Gallery shows a selection of works from the past couple of years, landscapes of the New England and North West alongside more recent still life paintings. @black_gully_printmakers

01.01.2022 DON'T MISS THE OPENING NIGHT EVENT FRIDAY 28TH FEBRUARY @ 6.30pm We are very proud to be hosting an exhibition of works by renowned landscape artist, Anjee Du Terreau. Working mainly in acrylics, Anjee sees each painting as an adventure, and a challenge. ... "My training as a photographer has been invaluable and my camera is an integral part of the creative process for me. I have a real need to explore the natural world (and especially trees!) and to interpret a scene in terms of pattern, light and energy - but most of all ... colour! I just want to celebrate and showcase the kaleidoscope of colours that surrounds us naturally - and perhaps with a little enhancement from my palette!" Anjee du Terreau
