17.01.2022 Anti-Poverty Week 2020 | The Coronavirus Supplement Lifted People out of Poverty: The number of people in poverty is expected to increase by 740,000 as a result of the reduction in the Coronavirus Supplement in September 2020. By December 2020, the reductions in income supports announced in July will increase poverty by one third to 3.5 million people. Now is not the time to cut payments to people receiving the Coronavirus Supplement (including unemployed people) nor the JobKeeper payment. https://bit.ly/3jV2wFu Mission Australia #RaisetheRateForGood #APW2020 #BuildSocialHousing

17.01.2022 Great to see targeted initiatives like this to prevent worsening outcomes - supporting students and providing employment opportunities. Our 'Wave of Disadvantage’ economic modelling shows that rising unemployment leads to a drop-off in educational attainment, particularly for disadvantaged kids. 16.01.2022 Anti-Poverty week 2020 | Bob’s story is one of many in NSW where economic disadvantage and poor health is impacting on all areas of his life. The cost of healthcare places many people in precarious situations and forces people to make difficult decisions, such as prioritising one household member's health over another, or paying the electricity bill over getting medical care. More people like Bob are sharing their story, stay posted for the release of the Consumer Stories of Patient Experience and Economic Disadvantage in NSW report by Health Consumers NSW and NCOSS. 16.01.2022 Anti-Poverty Week 2020 | Investing in Social Housing is Both the Right and Smart Thing to Do: A 10% unemployment rate is projected to increase homelessness in NSW to between 7,905 and 16,140 people. Increased homelessness is estimated to cost between $218 million and $445 million each year due to higher health and social service costs. 12.01.2022 NSW Anti-Poverty Week 2020 | The Federal Budget missed a key opportunity to tackle homelessness and stimulate jobs in the construction industry by investing in social and affordable housing. The NSW Budget will be handed down on 17 November, it is crucial that the NSW Government tackle the issues that the Federal Budget didn’t. https://bit.ly/3iKZFNU Mission Australia Anti-Poverty Week Everybody's Home #RaisetheRateForGood #APW2020 #BuildSocialHousing

10.01.2022 The Final Report for the Productivity Commission inquiry into mental health was released this week. The Final Report identifies that a key gap in the service system is the 'missing middle' of services - those for mental health needs too complex for primary care but not appropriate for hospital care. It recognises that this gap primarily reflects a lack of community mental health services, and that expanding these services should be a priority reform. Something the sector has long advocated for. 09.01.2022 Anti-Poverty Week 2020 | Regions that are being hit the hardest by the economic fallout were already suffering the greatest disadvantage, including communities that were in recovery from the 2019-20 bushfires. Now is the time to invest in social housing both to relieve pressure on those living in housing stress and to help stimulate the economy, especially given worse affordability for those renting at the lower end of the market. https://bit.ly/36V2kCF Mission Australia Community Industry Group - Illawarra Forum #RaisetheRateForGood #APW2020 #BuildSocialHousing

That includes 774,000 children or more than 1 in 6. The Federal Budget has left over two million people uncertain about their future by failing to deliver a permanent, adequate JobSeeker rate. We cannot go back to pre-COVID levels which, for JobSeeker was $40 a day. https://bit.ly/3lOsACQ Mission Australia #RaisetheRateForGood #APW2020 #BuildSocialHousing
