24.01.2022 Today is #RUOKDay Caring about the mental health and wellbeing of the people around us is an important and practical way to show love. In a year where most people have a good reason to say, 'no, I'm not OK,' we need to be ready to have tough conversations.... We may be guilty of dismissing a person's experiences by telling them, 'others have it harder' or 'God wouldn't have given you this challenge unless you could handle it.' While we may have good intentions, these words can stop people from seeking the support they need. Learn some different strategies to start a conversation, listen with empathy and connect people to support if they need it. Visit www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask Remember, a conversation can change a life. Let's all take the time today to learn how to ask 'R U OK?'

20.01.2022 Wednesday Wisdom Cheerfulness Here are some synonyms for 'cheerfulness' - happy, bright, joyful, merry. We should do our best to carry a sunny disposition. Positivity drives away despondency. Light-heartedness drives away darkness. We gain nothing by being pessimistic. We gain an abundance of blessings when we choose to be optimistic.

16.01.2022 The greatest demonstration of unconditional Love is that, even though we can never be worthy on our own, Christ made us worthy simply out of His Grace. "Mankind, once an outcast, has been made worthy of sonship to the Heavenly Father, received the promise of the glorious resurrection and eternal life in the heavens together with the angels." + St. John of Kronstadt.
16.01.2022 Happy Saturday!

14.01.2022 Saint Catherine Today our Holy Church commemorates Saint Catherine - The Great Martyr of Alexandria. By your virtues as by rays of the sun you enlightened the unbelieving philosophers, and like the most bright moon you drove away the darkness of disbelief from those walking in the night; you convinced the queen, and also chastised the tyrant, God-summoned bride, blessed Catherine. ... You hastened with desire to the heavenly bridal chamber of the fairest Bride-groom Christ, and you were crowned by Him with a royal crown; standing before Him with the angels, pray for us who keep your most sacred memory.

12.01.2022 Happy Ecclesiastical New Year! The First Ecumenical Council (Nicaea, 325) decreed that the Church year should begin on September 1. The month of September was, for the Hebrews, the beginning of the civil year (Exodus 23:16), the month of gathering the harvest and of the offering of thanks to God. As we enter this new cycle in our Church's calendar, consider what ways you would like to be made new?

11.01.2022 Wednesday Wisdom Prioritising Love St Maria of Paris explains that those who prioritise piety above love are failing to carry out the mission that Christ gave to each of us. Many Christians can fall into a trap of following rules and justifying their judgement of others. This self-righteousness puts their souls at risk, because Christ taught and showed us that unconditional love is the way to salvation.

09.01.2022 Today the Orthodox Church honours Saint Sophia and her three daughters Faith, Hope and Love. As the Psalm says, you grew as a fruitful olive tree in the courts of the Lord, O Sophia, righteous Saint; and you offered unto Christ, by contests of martyrdom, the blessed offspring of your womb, as if sweet and pleasing fruit, Faith, Hope and Love, your three daughters. Now we entreat you to pray to Him, on behalf of us who honour you. May these righteous saints intercede for us!
09.01.2022 When you were a kid and you were growing, there were times where you needed to go up a shoe-size. You had a choice - keep wearing an old pair of shoes that are now too tight, or buy a new pair of shoes that fit better but give you blisters until they've been broken in. It's the same with our spiritual growth. God will not allow us to stay comfortable. Our life experiences stretch us and expand us. If the pain is inevitable, it is up to us how we make use of it and bear it. Will you keep wearing shoes that are too small? Or will you make room to grow, even if that means accommodating the growing pains?

We are all called to sainthood and we can become saints anywhere. When we look at the lives of saints, we see that many of them had complicated and sinful pasts - but this is why there is so much power in their repentance.

04.01.2022 Wednesday Wisdom Love by Giving It is not enough for us to feel love for another person or just pray for them. As Christians, we're called to show love through action. We are to take care of people's physical needs as well as their spiritual needs. Consider that Christ himself did this - He healed people's physical diseases as well as their spiritual ailments. In this same way, we are called to serve others before ourselves.
