18.01.2022 Since the 1980s it has been predicted that libraries will disappear, says Robert Knight, OAM, Executive Director of Riverina Regional Library. They said e-books and digital books would end the need for libraries and that in the new technologically-focussed environment libraries were irrelevant. But libraries have been re-invented and are now community hubs. Mr Knight says that libraries, especially those in rural and regional areas, are the masters of re-invention. The ...tiny town of Tullamore, New South Wales, population 210, is a prime example with the distinction of having one of the few unmanned, around-the-clock libraries in the world. 18.01.2022 Regional communities are the backbone of a thriving agriculture sector. Sustainable regional communities need high quality jobs, infrastructure and essential services. Stronger regions will be key in a recovery from the Covid-19 induced recession and deliver the goal for NSW agriculture reaching $30 billion in economic value by 2030. NSW Farmers congratulates the NSW Government on the substantial spend on regional communities in this year’s State Budget, which recognises the support regional areas need in health services, education opportunities and digital connectivity to improve equity with urban areas. 15.01.2022 Over the last 10 years there has been a high turnover of farms to younger people with a whole new perspective on farming and how it can be made into a viable business, explains NSW Farmers member Shane Buckley, owner of Wapengo Rocks, Australia’s first organically-certified oyster farm. 12.01.2022 It’s farmers like Renae Connell and her husband Scott who we will be celebrating this Ag Day, over a glass of jersey milk from their dairy farm near Dorrigo, NSW. Renae and Scott have their eyes set firmly on the future, adapting their enterprise to meet high animal welfare, productivity and profitability standards. Not that any of these are mutually exclusive. Renae’s philosophy is that the more you look after your animals, the happier, healthier and calmer they are.
