04.02.2022 At a meeting in Dubbo on Thursday of industry participants and stakeholders, Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov and some of his s...enior staff, representatives of the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC), and the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Dugald Saunders MP, amendments to the draft Animal Welfare Bill 2022 were discussed at length, in particular the prospect of prohibiting frozen semen insemination (FSI) in NSW. On Friday the Minister confirmed in correspondence with the GRNSW CEO that the Bill will be amended. The letter from the Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. Dugald Saunders MP to Tony Mestrov can be found here: https://www.grnsw.com.au//OM22%20276%20Letter%20to%20Mr%20 Pictured L-R: Dubbo Greyhound Club President Shayne Stiff, Minister for Agriculture, the Hon. 27.01.2022 Latest Prizemoney Increases Announced -By GRNSW Greyhound Racing NSW’s (GRNSW) record-breaking returns to participants will receive another injection from Tuesd...ay, February 1, with the latest phase being an increase of City class prizemoney. Last year GRNSW announced a new record total of $47 million to be distributed to participants in 2021-22, an increase of 23% on the previous year, continuing the hugely positive upwards trend which has seen returns increase by 100% from $23.5million in 2016. From next Tuesday races for fifth grade and above, over both the 520m and 720m distances, will have prizemoney increased by $1,300 per race, equating to an increase of more than $700,000 annually, with winners of those events to now receive an additional $1,000. The greyhound industry in NSW has never been in a stronger position than it is now, and as a result, at every opportunity, we are looking to increase the returns to our participants, GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov said. It has been, and continues to be a difficult time for all, but the resilience and agility of everyone in this industry deserves to be rewarded, and I’m delighted to be able to announce these latest prizemoney increases. In recent months we have made a number of big announcements around feature racing with the introduction of both the $125,000 Country Classic middle-distance event to be held in March in Dubbo, and the world’s richest staying event, The 715, a $500,000 to the winner event in June at LADBROKES GARDENS (Newcastle). But while those events - and of course our Million Dollar Chase - attract the headlines and cater to the sport’s top tier, at GRNSW we know the importance of making sure all participants are looked after when it comes to prizemoney and that’s why we have made increases across numerous areas in recent months. Fifth grade City 520m winners will now receive $6,000, second receives $1,700 and third $1,200. Fifth grade 720m City prizemoney will see winners receive $6,200, second $1,800 and third $1,300. From February 1, fourth grade City 520m winners receive $6,500, second receives $1,850 and third $1,300. Prizemoney for a fourth grade City 720m has climbed above $10,000, with the winner to receive $6,700, second $1,950 and third $1,400. Non-Grade City winners over 520m will collect $7,000, runners-up receive $2,000 and third place receives $1,500. Over the 720m, Non-Grade City winners take home $7,200, second receives $2,100 and third place will receive $1,600. These latest City prizemoney increases follow on from announcements late last year which saw GRNSW increase prizemoney for provincial maiden events, and provincial events of 440m+, fifth grade and above, across the State.

23.01.2022 DEFERRAL OF NEW NATIONAL RULES UNTIL MAY 1 The Greyhounds Australasia Board met yesterday and decided to defer the commencement of the new GA rules until 1 May. Greyhounds Australasia released a statement on the deferral of the rules: ... "The adoption of a new suite of national greyhound racing rules is a significant step forward for the industry and a step that GA and the controlling bodies must execute with absolute confidence. Greyhound racing across Australasia is run across multiple IT systems. While the individual systems are ready to adopt the new rules, the GA Directors have sought further assurance regarding the integration of those systems and the ability of those systems to seamlessly work together with the new rules. We need to ensure the integrity of the industry is maintained and as such the GA Directors wish to advise that in order that further final testing on the technical integration can be undertaken, the adoption of the new national rules will be deferred until May 1, 2022". Despite this deferral, the Greyhound Welfare & Integrity Commission have advised that the three new NSW local rules will commence from February 1, 2022. 20.01.2022 Benji came to GAP in November 2019 and almost immediately became one of our favourites. Benji was odd, or as we like to call it, unique. He would lick his food ...like it was ice cream melting on a hot day, rather than eat it. He also liked to drag his bed out in the dirt. Sadly our vets could tell something was not quite right, and it turns out that Benji has an extra vertebra in his spine! We spent months studying his behaviour and optimising his surroundings to support his extraordinary needs. This story has a very happy ending though, with a foster carer swooping in at the last minute to give him a new lease on life. Read the heart warming story here: https://www.gapnsw.com.au/2020/10/bend-it-like-benji/ Please tell us all, does your dog have any special quirks?

16.01.2022 The Association is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of long time member Gerald (Gerry) Lee. Gerry was a life-long participant in the greyhound industry, a long term member of the Gosford Branch and a NSW GBOTA Director, representing the Hunter River District, for at least two terms. He also served for a period as vice-chairman. Gerry was very well known in the Gosford/Hunter region, enjoyed substantial friendships within the greyhound industry and was deeply respected ...as a productive and progressive administrator. Based at Gosford, Gerry drove many improvements at the Maitland and Gosford tracks during his time as a Director. With a background in commerce and logistics, he was also a valuable and balanced contributor to business decisions of the NSW GBOTA. He was a strong advocate for the needs of participants and, without fail, presented positively for both the NSW GBOTA and the wider NSW greyhound industry. Gerry was an experienced and skilled trainer whose advice, given freely, was valued by many and was instrumental in guiding younger participants. Gerry will be deeply missed by all in our industry who knew him. Our thoughts are with Gerry's family and friends at this sad time.

The NSW GBOTA thank Ron for his long term commitment and support, and wish him and Christine every happiness with the next stage of their lives. 10.01.2022 All interstate participants who are intending to nominate and complete in the TAB Million Dollar Chase should be aware of the protocols announced by the Greyhou...nd Welfare & Integrity Commission (GWIC). From September 1, GWIC requires all interstate trainers and/or owners with any greyhound that they intend to transfer to a NSW registered trainer in order to nominate that greyhound for any event in the MDC series, including any supporting advertised feature events, or any other race that is not part of the MDC series complete an ‘Interstate Trainer Transfer’ notification form prior to the transfer occurring. This form is to be provided at least three (3) days before the transfer, or intended transfer, of the greyhound to a NSW registered trainer. A kennel notification must also be submitted within three (3) days of the greyhound coming into the custody of a NSW registered trainer receiving the greyhound/s. There are additional requirements for Victorian greyhounds, and where a Victorian trainer is not intending to transfer a greyhound to a NSW participant as previously mentioned, the following requirements apply, due to the current Victorian government restrictions. A Victorian greyhound will be permitted to start only if: - The greyhound only travels to NSW. - The greyhound must be on a continuous journey to the race meeting and return as part of that continuous journey, and does not stay in NSW. - The Victorian participant provides express written authority to a NSW registered participant to be in charge of the greyhound for the race meeting, and associated travel to and from that meeting. - That the express written authority is provided to GWIC at least three (3) days prior to the intended journey to and from the race meeting. Please note that all other government Covid-19 guidelines and legislation must be adhered to in NSW and each interstate jurisdiction. If you have any questions or enquiries about travel into NSW, please contact GWIC on [email protected] or 13 49 42.

03.01.2022 NSW GBOTA SYDNEY CUP FINAL On Wentworth Park Greyhounds’ million dollar night, who will walk away from this field with $100,000?!

03.01.2022 He was installed as favourite for the TAB Million Dollar Chase when markets first opened, and Victorian star Simon Told Helen took his first step towards the Oc...tober 16 grand final at Temora on Sunday night, and that step was anything but tentative. When the boxes opened it was only a matter of strides before Simon Told Helen went up a gear and powered to the lead, rapidly racing away from his rivals, and before the field was out of the back straight it was only about times and margins. At the finishing line the time was a fast 25.83s, and the margin, seven lengths over his kennelmate Snags Mckenzie. Locally trained pair Alamo Joe and Maximum Refusal finished third and fourth and booked berths in the final next weekend.
