16.01.2022 Hunter and Central Coast Development Corporation is committed to raising awareness and increasing opportunities for women to work in the construction industry. We are pleased to be working with Robson Civil Projects and the Zinfra team on our Honeysuckle Drive Upgrade project. Part of this team is Robyn Dening, Project Manager, Zinfra. Robyn’s role is to work with HCCDC to review, coordinate and relocate vital gas assets in readiness for the site’s future use. The works have run super smoothly thanks to Robyn and her team. #HoneysuckleisChanging #HoneysuckleNSW #UrbanRenewal #Zinfra #Robson Civil

15.01.2022 In a past life, the site of the old Newcastle Bus Depot was home to a large cylindrical gas holder, used to fuel the station and train lights. In a nod to the site's history, we're marking the spot of the holder with a circular band stand! This new piazza is due to open next month. See more at hccdc.nsw.gov.au/station-works

12.01.2022 On the Central Coast we operate Mt Penang Parklands, which includes eight hectares of landscaped native gardens open free to the public. We couldn’t do it without the Bluethumb Volunteers, a group of passionate locals who run tours, tend to the gardens and act as ambassadors for the parklands. One of our amazing volunteers, Dianne, shares why she got involved.. "I became a Bluethumb volunteer because it allowed me to work outside. I met lots of other volunteers and we all enj...oy helping out where we are needed. Our role can vary from pulling weeds to taking tours of various sections of the park to assisting with outdoor functions. We have a beautiful garden, free to the public, just on our doorstep. It's a wonderful place for a stroll full of interesting side gardens and surprises around every corner. The Wondabyne Sculpture park is an interesting place to start conversations like ‘what do you think that is?’ The waterfall cafe is also a nice place to catch up with family and friends." Find out more about the Bluethumb volunteers, and how to get involved, at bit.ly/2Iwxt5b

08.01.2022 Meet Ruth, Site Engineer, Glascott Landscape & Civil. This is Ruth’s first construction project (she is just about to graduate) and she’s responsible for engineering quality assurance meaning she oversees the technical requirements of the Honeysuckle Park project everything from checking soil has adequate bearing capacity for footings to ensuring saw cuts are cut to the correct depth to facilitate crack control. Ruth also manages project communications I’m very proud of ho...w far the team has come since the start of the project. We’ve faced every challenge head on as a team and sought to find workable solutions together. I haven’t faced any issues being a woman working in the construction industry. I am usually the only woman on site, however I work with very respectful colleagues on this project who are willing to offer help. said Ruth. In contrast, at university Ruth wasn’t always seen as an equal. My success was sometimes attributed to the fact that I’m part of a trendy engineering minority and not because I dedicated lots of time and energy to refining my skills and expanding my knowledge. "What I most look forward to is being able to see members of the community come together and enjoy a social space that offers such magnificent views." "Newcastle has a rich albeit complicated history and I have seen the efforts taken to reconcile the past with our vision for the future. I’m excited to work with the community in my capacity as an engineer to honour both past, present and future generations by building a better and brighter tomorrow." Ruth concluded. 03.01.2022 Members of the extended Cressy family joined us at Cockle Creek today, to honour Henry Alfred ‘Harry’ Cressy. Harry lived and worked in Boolaroo and served in the Australian Imperial Force in WWI. He is being remembered with Cressy Road, which will form a vital link in the transformed Cockle Creek precinct and create a permanent reminder of Harry, his family and their rich history in Lake Macquarie.
