25.01.2022 Today the Brigade took ownership of 2 new Stihl BR700 ultra high performance, back worn blowers. Each truck already has one and this last 10 weeks they've really given us the edge out there. Awesome on their own and devastating in pairs. I'll do a seperate post on their use soon. This has only been possible because of the generosity of our community. The Brigade would like to say a huge thanks to the following people;... The Keens (Bendemeer), the Graysons (Westdale), the Gentles (Retreat), the Griffins (Bendemeer), the Baiocchis (Bendemeer), the Lawrances (Retreat) and Tamworth Small Engines who gave us a stellar price. I hope you know how happy your actions have made our firefighters. Can't thank you enough. See more

24.01.2022 Fire needs 3 things: fuel, heat & oxygen. Our trucks have integrated systems that add bush firefighting foam to the water. This creates a mass of bubbles in the water as it leaves the nozzle. The mix eliminates two of the things fire needs. It blankets the fuel (no oxygen) and cools it. Because foam is a more effective way to fight fire, it makes the water go further. This is particularly important when water is scarce.... Foam is added at a concentration of around 0.25% and since the Moonbi fire we've gone through 30 drums (20L). This means that at a minimum, we've put out 240,000 L of water on firegrounds in 9 weeks, from 2 trucks... that's an astounding number. Because of the edge foam gives us out there, I tell the team; " use it like you're not paying for it !" See more

24.01.2022 Big thanks to Tracy and the Crew !

23.01.2022 Not just our brigade. Every brigade in the area. An amazing team effort.

21.01.2022 This is for all the Lucy & Lachie's Fans. I know everyone's heart dropped when we heard. This is them doing what they did best at Halls Creek last year. I don't know Lachie. Wouldn't know him if I fell over him. What I do recognise is his smooth, calm, friendly radio patter. You won't find a more easy going guy in the sky. Nothing was a drama for Lucy & Lachie. Love ya work. We hope Lucy can be rebuilt and we're bloody glad Lachie's Mum sent him to swimming lessons all those years ago Can someone more tec savvy than me please tag in Fleet Helos?

20.01.2022 Everyone talks about tired firefighters. And we are; dead on our feet. Then there are those who don't tend to get a mention. I wonder how the radio operators are going? Triple Zero took 2100 calls for fire in 24hrs last Saturday. What about the Commissioner? Best leadership I've seen during a crisis in ages. I wonder how he's holding up? At the Fire Command centre today I went and found Pat. ... She and her small army make the meals for all the firefighters in our region. They're so tired. And yet, day after day they stump up and we get fresh salads, bread, butter, biscuits, lollies, knife n fork, a little hand wipe, drinks. You gotta see it to believe it! And no matter which God forsaken, mountain peak you find your backside stuck on, she'll get it there. Australia Post, take note. She's bloody CEO material. I gave Pat a hug today. Without her and her team, the whole show stops. From the Commish to the canteens, everyone's tired. Love your work team. See more

20.01.2022 6am: roll hoses, fuel trucks, clean out cabs, restock foam, fill fridges, fuel chainsaws & blowers. 8am: crews on the road to Halls Creek fire and any one of half a dozen others if they get sick of that one.

16.01.2022 Big thanks to Tracy and the team at the Bendemeer Hotel. Thanks a million for your work when everyone else was kicking back on a day off. 500 bucks !!! Are you kidding???? Luv ya work crew !! https://www.facebook.com/102411879833516/posts/3404500466291291/

14.01.2022 "Bit to the left please mate..." Some days are harder than others

14.01.2022 Ten days and 240 hectares later the Halls Creek fire is contained. There is no active flame edge, while areas within the burnt ground will continue to burn and smoke for some time. Low temperatures and high humidity will help the area to continue to cool. It's at patrol status for the first time, meaning one crew will remain and patrol the perimeter. Hopefully it all behind us now. Halls Creek Brigade put in huge hours on the fire alongside us. Big thanks to a multitude of other brigades: Moore Creek, Tamworth, Watsons Creek, Willow Tree, no doubt I'll have forgotten someone... they're very social events

11.01.2022 Not everyone's in a position to be able to drop everything and go fight a fire. However, everyone wants to do something, and these last few months we've seen a lot of 'somethings'. Some cook cakes, some give free tickets to events, some free coffee, free accommodation, free bottled water, some give cash, some help victims clean up, some people have even donated their caravans! Then there's Cain and the Crew at Empire Ink in the Atrium Arcade in Tamworth. A number of brigade...s helped saved a property close to their hearts during the Comara Rd Fire. To say thanks they decided to raffled off some ink sessions at their studio. Yesterday the Tamworth, Watsons Creek and Bendemeer Brigades received $850 each !!!!!! We owe you guys a massive thanks. Moments like this make me so bloody happy. There's more good people in the world than we're ever lead to believe. Thanks guys. We love your 'something' and appreciate you guys working for free to do it. Stellar effort. Love your work crew. See more

11.01.2022 The tele shows towering flames, firefighters running, big hoses and huge streams of water. Then there's the other reality. Smaller flames, just as persistent in their menacing march toward property and itchin' for a breeze. This time they're high up in rough, inaccessible country. No roads, means no trucks. No trucks means no water. No water doesn't mean we give up. Day and night firefighters are out there with a bottle of water, a rakehoe, elbow grease and each other. It's exhausting, backbreaking work with none of the glory that goes with fighting the stuff on TV. Keep up the work guys n gals... we're starting to get the upper hand on a few of these buggers.

11.01.2022 The worst, brings out the best. Bendemeer Public School just delivered 1500 bottles of water to our Station !!!! Big, big thanks to Coles in Tamworth for the donation.... Watsons Creek, Warrabah, Woolbrook, Halls Creek brigades; let me know when you're coming past and I'll load some on for you.

09.01.2022 Dear "We, Us & Co"... you know who you are. Thanks a million. We love you and you have us all scratching our heads. Nice work

06.01.2022 I ate my lunch today across from an RFS shed with its flag at half mast. You accept that ground based firefighters will probably die. You don't expect it to happen to these guys. We worked with these guys on the Jalna Rd Fire. We've heard their voices on the radio. The feeling of protection is indescribable. They truly are the angels of the fight. I feel deeply for their families many thousands of kilometres away and for their colleagues trying to keep their mind on the job ...of putting out these bloody fires. Rip Thor, Ian, Paul & Rick. Your sacrifice is another thing beyond words. See more

06.01.2022 This guy's leadership has been exceptional. This interview is worth the few minutes it takes to peer into how he ticks. Love having him at the top. Thanks to Tamworth Brigade for the tip off. https://10daily.com.au//shane-fitzsimmons-calls-his-family

05.01.2022 After a long day and late night at the Halls Creek fire on Friday, I struggled to haul my backside out of bed and do it all again, the next morning. I got up starving and too late for breakfast so, I called Tiarni ( Bee's Knees Cafe) and ordered a bacon & egg roll to go. On my way past I grabbed a Redbull and a Gatorade from the Bendemeer Tourist Park (Wayne's World ) Both of them wouldn't accept payment. This post goes out to Tiarni & Wayne. They've heavily supported our b...rigade with coffee, food and cold drinks and especially so since the Moonbi fire in November. Many members of surrounding brigades tell me the same story. You're awesome... you're the Bee's Knees !!! Not only are the bacon & egg burgers to die for but, a little known secret... they give you super powers ! See more

05.01.2022 For those of you who remember the movie A League of Their Own, you'll understand there's no crying in baseball. Similarly, there's no squealing in firefighting. Except if one of these guys runs up ya arm.... You're allowed to squeal, flick ya arm so hard ya dislocate your shoulder, run around in little circles, shuddering and making the "auuughh" noise. No one bats an eyelid. You're allowed to. It's in the Firefighters Handbook. Other than that, there is no squealing in firefighting See more

03.01.2022 In inaccessible country, air support becomes crucial and if you can't get the load right where it's needed, it's wasted. You might only get the helo for a few loads before he's away on another priority call. Constant radio chatter between the pilot and ground crew is required to get it bang on, down the fire line where you need it. Fortunately well practiced at the moment

01.01.2022 Good to hear... Lucy's looking pretty sorry for herself. I suppose if it was going to happen, better off over water.
